First check that your exact model supports microSD; support varies, and Samsung says Galaxy S21 models and later do not include an SD card slot in its India guidance.
Check that your Galaxy supports a microSD card
Not every Galaxy phone or tablet has a card slot. Check your exact model’s specifications before buying a card or following these steps. Samsung says SD card support varies by device model, so there is no universal capacity or speed recommendation that applies to every Galaxy. See Samsung Canada’s file-management guidance and Samsung India’s guidance on managing Galaxy files.

Samsung India says Galaxy S21 models do not include an SD card slot. Confirm the specifications for your own device rather than assuming a card will fit based on the Galaxy name alone.
Move or copy files with My Files
Samsung’s broadly documented method is to use My Files. Insert a compatible microSD card, then follow these steps:
#1 Best Overall
- EXPAND YOUR STORAGE. Insert your card to add massive storage up to 1.5TB[1] to your Android smartphones and tablets, digital cameras, and laptops.
- SPACE FOR MORE. With expansive capacities up to 1.5TB[1], capture and store hours of Full HD video[4], movies, music, games, photos, and podcasts.
- MOVE FILES FAST. Use your card with the SANDISK QuickFlow microSD UHS-I Card USB-A Reader[6] to achieve up to 195MB/s[2] read speeds [128GB-1.5TB models] and offload your content fast.
- LOAD APPS IN A SNAP. Rated A1[3], the SANDISK Ultra microSD card is optimized for faster app launch and overall app performance.
- EASY CONTENT MANAGEMENT. Easily back up, organize, and transfer your photos and videos with the SANDISK Memory Zone desktop or Android mobile app[5].
- Open My Files. Find the media under categories such as Images, Videos, or Audio, or browse the storage folders directly.
- Select the files. Touch and hold a file, then tap any other files you want to include.
- Choose Move or Copy. Choose Move to relocate the files, or Copy to keep the originals where they are.
- Choose the card as the destination. Return to My Files Home, tap SD card, and open the folder where you want the files saved.
- Confirm the transfer. Tap Move here or Copy here, as applicable.
Samsung’s US instructions specify My Files for this file-transfer workflow and say it cannot be done this way in other apps such as Gallery. The SD card should appear as a destination in My Files when a card is inserted. Labels or screens can vary with the device and software version; consult Samsung US: Move photos, videos, or music from your Galaxy phone or tablet.
Find camera photos and other media
Camera photos
Camera images are commonly stored in Internal storage > DCIM > Camera. In My Files, browse to that folder if you want to select camera photos directly rather than searching the Images category. The exact contents can vary depending on how files were created or saved. Samsung documents the folder path in its My Files app guide.

Files in media categories
Images, Videos, and Audio categories can make eligible files easier to locate. If you already know the folder, browsing by folder can help you select a specific set. Once selected, use the same Move or Copy procedure and choose the SD card destination.

Gallery albums
Samsung UK documents a Gallery workflow for moving images into an album on an SD card, while Samsung US describes transfers through My Files. Gallery steps therefore depend on the device and software version. If the relevant Gallery option is unavailable, use My Files to move the underlying files. See Samsung UK’s SD card guide.
Rank #3
- Expand your storage in a flash: ideal for Android smartphones and tablets, and Windows laptops.
- Up to 140MB/s transfer speeds to move up to 1000 photos per minute
- Load apps faster with A1-rated performance
- View, access, and back up your phone’s files in one location with the SanDisk Memory Zone app
- Relax knowing your card is backed by a 10-year limited warranty by SanDisk
Streaming downloads
Some streaming-service downloads are available only inside the app, often because of copyright restrictions. They may not appear as ordinary files in My Files, so they cannot necessarily be moved with the file-transfer steps above. Samsung discusses this limitation in its Galaxy file-management guidance.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Choose between an SD card and a computer for a large transfer
An SD card is a direct destination for eligible files when the Galaxy supports a card slot. For a large batch, Samsung Canada also documents transferring files to a PC using a compatible USB data cable and the device’s file-transfer setting. That is an alternative destination, not a way to add an SD slot to a device that lacks one. Regional screens and settings may vary; see Samsung Canada’s file-management guide.
