The simplest way to move a large video from an Android phone to a Windows PC is USB File Transfer: unlock the phone, connect it with a data-capable cable, choose File Transfer on the phone, then copy the video to the PC. If you do not have a cable, Quick Share is a wireless alternative when the PC and phone meet its requirements. For an OBS stream, you can play the copied local file directly; uploading it to YouTube is not necessary.
Move the video by USB
- Unlock the Android phone and connect it to the Windows PC using a USB cable that supports data transfer.
- On the phone, tap the notification indicating that it is charging via USB.
- Under Use USB for, select File Transfer.
- In the file-transfer window on Windows, find the video. Phone-camera recordings are often in the
DCIMfolder. Copy the file into a clearly named folder on the PC’s local drive. - Wait until the copy completes. Eject the phone from Windows, then unplug it.
This copies the file directly between devices rather than uploading it to cloud storage and downloading it again. Do not use an estimated transfer speed to predict completion: time varies with the file size, phone, cable, ports and computer.

Send it wirelessly with Quick Share
Quick Share can transfer files between Android and a compatible Windows PC without a cable. Google says it is already installed on Android 6 and later. Its Windows app requires a 64-bit Windows 10-or-later desktop or laptop; ARM-based PCs need Windows 11 or later. For setup and current requirements, see Google’s Quick Share app information.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →- Turn on Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on the PC, and keep the phone and PC nearby and discoverable.
- On the phone, select the video and use Quick Share to find the PC.
- Accept the incoming transfer on the receiving device and let the copy finish.
Google recommends keeping the devices within 5 metres. The recipient must accept transfers from another person or device, and Google says transfers are end-to-end encrypted. Speed and completion depend on the devices and wireless conditions; Quick Share is convenient, but it is not guaranteed to be faster than USB.

- Get NVMe solid state performance with up to 1050MB/s read and 1000MB/s write speeds in a portable, high-capacity drive(1) (Based on internal testing; performance may be lower depending on host device & other factors. 1MB=1,000,000 bytes.)
- Up to 3-meter drop protection and IP65 water and dust resistance mean this tough drive can take a beating(3) (Previously rated for 2-meter drop protection and IP55 rating. Now qualified for the higher, stated specs.)

If your PC is a Samsung
Google’s Quick Share Windows app is intended for non-Samsung PCs and is no longer supported on Samsung PCs. Google directs Samsung PC users to install Samsung’s Quick Share app from the Microsoft Store instead.
Which transfer method should you choose?
| Method | What you need | Best for | Limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| USB cable | Unlocked Android phone and a data-capable cable | A direct local copy, especially for a large file | A charge-only cable or connection problem can stop the PC detecting the phone |
| Quick Share | Compatible devices, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, and nearby discoverable devices | Moving a file without connecting a cable | Windows app compatibility varies; Samsung PCs should use Samsung’s app |
| Phone Link | Supported Android and Windows software, connected as required | File exchange within the Windows ecosystem | Its documented drag-and-drop feature is limited to selected Android manufacturers and files no larger than 512 MB each |
| Google Drive | Google Account and internet access | When the phone and PC are not together or direct transfer is unavailable | The file must be uploaded from the phone and downloaded to the PC, using data and time |
Why Phone Link may not work for a large video
Microsoft documents Phone Link file exchange for connected Android devices and PCs, but its drag-and-drop feature is available only for selected Android manufacturers. That feature allows up to 100 files at a time and has a 512 MB limit for each file, so it is not a suitable route for a video above that size. Microsoft also documents sharing from Android to PC through the share drawer; received files appear under Downloads\Phone Link. Requirements can vary with the current Phone Link and Link to Windows versions. See Microsoft’s Phone Link transfer instructions.

Use the local file in OBS, or upload it separately
Play it in an OBS scene
To play the copied video during a live OBS stream, add a Media Source to the scene and point it to the local file. OBS documents support for .mp4, .ts, .mov, .flv, .mkv, .avi, .gif and .webm. For a playlist, OBS documents a VLC Video source; VLC must be installed, and 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. See OBS Media Sources.

Upload a normal video to YouTube
If you want to publish the file as a regular YouTube video, use YouTube Studio on the PC: sign in, choose Create, then Upload videos, and select the local file. Uploading imports the file; publishing is the step that makes it available to viewers. HD and 4K processing time depends on quality, duration, format and traffic. See YouTube’s computer upload instructions.
YouTube’s recommended upload encoding page lists MP4 with H.264 video and AAC-LC or Opus audio, and recommends uploading at the frame rate at which the content was recorded. The detailed recommended settings are identified as available only to YouTube Studio Content Manager partners, so they are not a compulsory consumer preset. They concern encoding for upload, not how fast a file transfers between your phone and PC. See YouTube’s recommended upload encoding settings.

Troubleshoot a missing phone or failed transfer
- The phone charges but does not show up in Windows: On the phone, open the USB notification and select File Transfer. Google notes, “Not all USB cables can transfer files.” Try a different data-capable cable, another USB port, or another computer. See Google’s Android file-transfer help.
- Quick Share cannot find the PC: Confirm Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are on, both devices are nearby and discoverable, and the PC meets the Windows requirements. For a Samsung PC, use Samsung’s Quick Share app rather than Google’s Windows app.
- Phone Link rejects the video: If you are using drag-and-drop, check the file size and device support. A file above 512 MB exceeds that feature’s per-file limit.
- The transfer stops or takes longer than expected: Check that the phone remains unlocked and connected, the destination drive has enough free space, and the wireless devices remain close together if using Quick Share. No single transfer-time estimate applies to every setup.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your next step is keeping a prerecorded YouTube stream running without leaving the streaming PC on, StreamNeo runs the loop from the cloud. Upload the video, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. You still transfer the phone video to a computer first if that is where you are preparing the file.
