How to move from an iPhone to a Xiaomi or Oppo phone without losing your data

The safest move is a staged one: back up the iPhone, use the migration tool built for the destination phone, verify the new phone while the iPhone is still intact, and only then erase or trade it in. Xiaomi documents Mi Mover, Oppo documents Clone Phone, and Apple documents a direct transfer-to-Android flow for compatible devices running iOS 26.3. None of these routes guarantees every app, chat, credential, or hardware-linked item will move.

What will transfer—and what may not

Phone-to-phone migration is selective. Contacts, photos and videos are the categories most consistently listed in the manufacturer instructions. Messages, calendars, music, files and apps may also be offered, depending on the model, operating-system versions and the migration route shown on screen.

Prepare both phones before starting

1. Make and check an iPhone backup

Create a current iPhone backup using the backup method you already trust, then confirm that it completed. Keep the iPhone, its backup and access to the Apple account available until you have checked the new phone. A backup is your recovery path if a transfer stops halfway or a category is missing.

2. Identify the exact destination model and software

Write down the Xiaomi or Oppo model and its operating-system version. Open its built-in migration app or setup wizard and read the categories it offers. Instructions written for one regional release may not match another release, and app screens can change after an update.

3. Update, charge and connect

• Install pending system and migration-app updates on both phones.
• Connect both devices to a reliable Wi-Fi network and keep them close together.
• Make sure the destination has enough free storage for the selected data.
• For Mi Mover, Xiaomi’s instructions specify at least 30 percent battery on each phone. Charging both devices is safer for a large library.
• Keep screens awake when the migration app advises it; Wi-Fi Direct transfers can fail when a phone sleeps or leaves the connection.

4. Protect data already on the destination phone

If the Oppo has already been used, back it up before opening Clone Phone. Oppo warns that “all the existing apps and app data on the new phone will be overwritten by data from the old phone.” The same practical rule applies to any destination phone that already contains information you care about: save it elsewhere first, or perform the migration before personal setup.

5. Prepare account and security details

Have your Google account, Apple account and important app credentials available. Do not disable two-factor authentication simply to make migration easier. A migration can copy a contact or photo without carrying over the account session that created it, so expect to sign in again.

Use only the authentic migration app supplied by Xiaomi or Oppo, downloaded through the phone’s official channel. Xiaomi’s iCloud-transfer privacy material says information such as an Apple ID, password and verification code may be collected for the transfer purpose and not retained. Its page shows a version marked v20260522 and an update date of April 1, 2020; those dates do not make an unofficial app trustworthy. Enter credentials only in the official, current in-app flow and never send them to a person or third-party service.

Choose the right transfer route

Run one route at a time. Starting several migrations simultaneously can create duplicate contacts, partial uploads or confusion about which copy is current.

Move to Xiaomi with Mi Mover

Xiaomi’s support instructions describe Mi Mover as a direct transfer utility for an iPhone or another Android phone to a new Xiaomi phone. The listed categories include contacts, messages, photos, videos, music, apps and other personal data, but Xiaomi cautions that compatibility depends on the old-device model and operating-system version.

1. Install the latest Mi Mover version on both phones using the official app source available for your devices.
2. Turn on Bluetooth and Wi-Fi on both phones. Charge them, with at least 30 percent battery on each device according to Xiaomi’s instructions.
3. Open Mi Mover on the Xiaomi and choose the option identifying it as the receiver or new phone.
4. Open Mi Mover on the iPhone and choose the sender or old-phone option.
5. Allow the connection requested by the app. Mi Mover uses Wi-Fi Direct for the transfer, so keep the phones close and avoid switching networks.
6. When the Xiaomi displays the available categories, select only what you have storage for and what you want copied.
7. Start the transfer and keep both screens on and both phones undisturbed until Mi Mover reports completion.
8. Leave the iPhone intact. On the Xiaomi, inspect contacts, photos, videos, messages, music and any other selected category before deciding whether another route is needed.

If Mi Mover does not show a category

A missing category is usually a compatibility limitation rather than a setting you should force. Check the model and operating-system versions, update the app, and look for a category-specific method such as account synchronization or the service’s own export tool. Do not delete the original data to make the transfer appear complete.

Use Xiaomi’s Google Drive method as a fallback

Xiaomi also describes an iOS-to-Xiaomi route using the Google Drive app. In that method, you back up selected iPhone data in Google Drive, add the same Google account to the Xiaomi phone, and allow the phone to sync. Xiaomi’s page mentions photos, contacts and calendar events and gives a 15 GB free-backup limit. That figure and the screens are time-sensitive, so check the current storage allocation shown in the Google account before uploading.

1. Install or update Google Drive on the iPhone and sign in to the Google account you will use on the Xiaomi.
2. Use the backup options shown in the current iPhone app to select the supported categories you need.
3. Keep the iPhone on Wi-Fi and power until the upload has completed. A list of selected items is not proof that every item finished uploading.
4. On the Xiaomi, add the same Google account and enable the relevant synchronization options.
5. Wait for synchronization, then check contacts, calendar events and media in their destination apps.
6. Keep the iPhone and the cloud copy until you have checked older items and confirmed that the account is the one you intend to keep using.

This route is not a complete image of the iPhone. It does not turn iOS app data, hardware-linked credentials or every local file into Android data.

Move to Oppo with Clone Phone

Oppo’s regional instructions for ColorOS 12 and later use Clone Phone. The process creates a QR-code connection between the new Oppo and the old iPhone. The cited instructions list contacts, photos and videos; Oppo’s broader guidance also names calendar events. The exact categories shown on your handset may differ.

1. On the Oppo, open Clone Phone and choose that it is the new device.
2. When prompted for the old-phone type, select iPhone.
3. On the iPhone, install HeyTap Clone Phone from the App Store.
4. Open the iPhone app and grant the permissions requested for the categories you intend to move. Read each permission rather than approving unrelated access.
5. Use the iPhone to scan the QR code displayed on the Oppo. Keep the phones close while the private connection is established.
6. Select the categories offered by Clone Phone and review the estimated size before starting.
7. Start the migration and leave both phones unlocked, nearby and connected until the app confirms completion.
8. Check the Oppo’s contacts, photos, videos, calendars and other selected data. Sign in to apps separately where required.

Understand Clone Phone’s exclusions

Oppo says Clone Phone cannot move some hardware-linked items, including transit or access cards, security-related data, certain incompatible apps or app data, and system-clone data. App data that depends on iOS services may therefore need an independent migration process. An apparently successful clone means the listed transfer finished; it is not a guarantee that every app session or protected database was copied.

Check Apple’s direct transfer-to-Android option

Apple documents a direct transfer flow for an iPhone running iOS 26.3 and a compatible Android device. The Android phone begins setup and displays a QR code; the iPhone camera scans it, after which the transfer flow lets you select supported items such as photos, contacts, calendars, call history and messages. Apple also describes an eSIM-transfer step when the carrier supports it.

1. Update the iPhone to a compatible software version and start setup on the Android phone.
2. Choose the Android setup option for transferring data from an iPhone, if it appears on the destination.
3. Scan the Android phone’s QR code with the iPhone camera and follow the on-screen pairing instructions.
4. Review the categories presented by the setup flow and select the data you want to copy.
5. If offered, confirm eSIM transfer only after checking that your carrier supports the feature. Do not remove the iPhone’s cellular plan prematurely.
6. Wait for setup to report completion, then verify the data on the Android phone before resetting the iPhone.

This feature is conditional on compatible software, hardware and regional availability. The examples in Apple’s guidance do not establish that WhatsApp history or all app data will transfer, so use the individual service’s current instructions for those items.

Verify the new phone before touching the iPhone

Verification is the point at which you discover a limitation while recovery is still possible. Use this checklist rather than checking only whether the migration app displayed “done.”

• Open Contacts and search for several names from different groups or accounts.
• Scroll through Photos and Videos to check recent items, older items, albums and long videos.
• Open Calendar and compare past and future events, recurring events and reminders that matter.
• Check Messages and call history if the chosen route claimed to support them.
• Open important files, notes and music rather than relying on file counts.
• Install critical apps from the Android app store and sign in. Confirm that their own cloud data, purchases and two-factor methods are available.
• Test calls, mobile data, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, notifications and the eSIM or physical SIM.
• Check that the new phone has enough free storage after migration and that its backup is enabled.

For irreplaceable data, compare a sample on the new phone with the original on the iPhone. Keep the iPhone powered and available while you perform these checks.

Stop missing SMS, MMS or RCS messages

Apple says that someone who switched to a non-Apple phone and is not receiving RCS or SMS/MMS messages might need to deregister iMessage. If the iPhone is still available, turn off iMessage and FaceTime in Settings. If you no longer have the iPhone, use Apple’s online iMessage deregistration process. Apple notes that other Apple devices can take a few hours to recognize the change.

After deregistration, ask a contact to send a new message and test both an individual conversation and a group conversation. This addresses message routing; it does not restore message history that was never transferred.

Troubleshoot common failures

The phones will not connect

• Move the phones within a short distance, turn Bluetooth and Wi-Fi off and on, and restart the migration apps.
• Disable a VPN or network setting that interferes with local connections, then retry on a reliable private network.
• Update the migration app and operating system on both devices.
• Run only one transfer app at a time and keep both screens awake.

The transfer stops or reports insufficient storage

• Check the destination’s free space, including space needed temporarily during transfer.
• Transfer photos and videos in a separate run from optional music or files.
• Charge both phones and repeat the transfer without leaving the app.
• Do not erase the iPhone to create space on the destination; that removes your recovery copy.

Contacts or calendars are duplicated

Duplicates often appear when both a copied local set and an account-synchronized set are enabled. Pause additional imports, identify the authoritative account, and use the destination phone’s built-in duplicate-management tools only after making a backup.

An app opens but has no data

Reinstall the Android edition and sign in with the same service account. Some apps encrypt local databases or bind them to iOS, so a phone clone cannot make the data usable on Android. Look for the app’s official account restore, export/import or device-switch procedure.

An eSIM will not activate

Check the carrier, country and exact phone model requirements. Keep the iPhone’s plan active until the carrier confirms activation on the Oppo or Xiaomi. If the direct transfer option is unavailable, request the carrier’s supported eSIM reissue method.

Erase or trade in the iPhone only after verification

1. Finish the checks above and resolve missing categories while the original data is still available.
2. Confirm that important accounts, recovery codes and two-factor methods work on the new phone.
3. Sign out of services as required by the recipient or trade-in provider, and remove the iPhone from your account only when you are ready.
4. Use the iPhone’s official erase-all-content process. Do not manually delete iCloud-synced photos, contacts or notes as a shortcut; manual deletion can remove the cloud copy instead of simply preparing the device for resale.
5. After erasure, leave the new phone and your backup in service until you are certain no delayed synchronization or message-routing issue remains.

The reliable decision rule is simple: preserve the original, use the destination model’s supported route, treat transferred categories as limited, and erase the iPhone only after you have opened and tested the data that matters.
