You generally cannot transfer an active Restream session or its YouTube live event directly into Gyre. Instead, prepare and start a replacement broadcast through Gyre, confirm that the correct YouTube event is live and playing properly, and only then end the Restream broadcast. That sequence reduces avoidable downtime, but neither service’s setup instructions promise a seamless handoff or preservation of the same event URL.

What changes when you move the stream
A service change is not a transfer of the current YouTube broadcast. Restream documents connecting to an existing YouTube event, while Gyre documents creating a broadcast by authorizing a channel or configuring a stream key. The reviewed instructions do not describe a one-click migration from an active Restream session to Gyre. Plan for a new broadcast, verify it, and then stop the old one. Before switching: check the channel and current broadcast
Confirm the YouTube channel can go live
Restream’s YouTube guide, dated July 9, 2026, says live streaming must be enabled. First-time activation may require phone verification and a 24-hour wait, so check this well before the planned cutover. It also says the connected YouTube account must be the channel owner rather than a manager or editor. [Restream Help Center]
Record the current setup
Before changing anything, note the channel, live event, title, description, privacy setting, thumbnail, playlist order, and whether the current stream uses Restream’s YouTube integration or a custom RTMP destination. Decide how viewers will find the replacement event if its URL changes: for example, update your channel description, community post, or other audience notice. Do not end the existing broadcast until you are ready to make that change.

Prepare the replacement broadcast in Gyre
- Choose source files. Use your original video files where possible, rather than assuming downloaded copies from YouTube are suitable source masters. Gyre describes uploading prerecorded files, preparing a playlist, and using a built-in converter. [Gyre; Gyre’s prerecorded-stream guide]
- Build and inspect the playlist. Check the order, audio, video, and any transitions or gaps relevant to your channel. Make sure you have the rights needed to use every item in a continuous stream.
- Connect the correct YouTube channel. In Gyre’s API flow, authorize access as the channel owner and select the intended channel. If using a stream key instead, enter the key for that channel carefully. A Google account with multiple channels can make it easy to authorize the wrong one. - Set up the replacement event. Configure its title, description, tags, thumbnail, privacy, playlist, and schedule as needed. Gyre says its API flow can transfer title, description, tags, and thumbnail to the YouTube broadcast; check the resulting event rather than assuming every setting was applied as intended. - Check monetization settings if relevant. Gyre’s update says third-party-created streams depend on the channel’s monetization defaults. This is not a guarantee of monetization eligibility or revenue; check the settings and status in YouTube Studio.
Cut over without stopping Restream too early
- Start the Gyre broadcast only when the playlist, channel, and event details are ready.
- Verify in YouTube Studio that the intended channel and event are live. Check the title, privacy, and other visible details.
- Verify playback from the viewer’s side. Open the public viewing surface and confirm that the correct video is playing and audio and picture are acceptable. If the replacement is private or unlisted, check it using an account and link that can access it.
- End Restream deliberately only after the new broadcast is verified. Check that the old event has stopped and that viewers are being directed to the right event. Avoid leaving two unintended public broadcasts running.
- Check the archive afterward in YouTube Studio. Do not assume the new stream inherits the old broadcast’s event or recording.
The exact overlap and handoff behavior depends on your channel’s event arrangement. The available setup documentation does not promise zero downtime, a shared URL, or a single continuous recording.
What to compare before committing to Gyre
Restream and Gyre address overlapping but different workflows. Restream can relay and multistream, supports existing YouTube events, and also offers prerecorded-video streaming. Gyre focuses on cloud automation for looping prerecorded files. Compare the features that matter to your channel instead of assuming that one service simply replaces every part of the other. Continuous-stream details that affect the move
Long broadcasts and YouTube archives
Restream’s YouTube guidance says YouTube has no stream-duration limit, but archives only streams shorter than 12 hours. Separately, Restream says its servers may be maintained or restarted during streams that run continuously for more than 24 hours and suggests restarting every 24 hours. These are distinct issues: do not infer that a long-running broadcast will produce one complete YouTube archive, or that switching providers preserves a single recording. Before looping a playlist, check that you have the rights to the music, video, and other material, including material you did not create. A service change does not grant those rights or ensure that a channel meets YouTube’s monetization policies. Review the channel’s YouTube Studio notices and current YouTube rules before starting a long-running stream.

Troubleshooting a failed or messy cutover
- Gyre is connected to the wrong channel: Stop before starting the broadcast. Recheck the channel selected in the authorization flow and sign in with the owning account; a single Google account can have access to multiple channels.
- The stream does not start: Confirm that YouTube live streaming is enabled and any first-time verification and waiting period is complete. Check the event and connection details, then consult the provider’s current setup instructions.
- The wrong event details appear: Compare the title, description, tags, thumbnail, privacy, and schedule in YouTube Studio with the settings you intended. Correct the YouTube event directly where appropriate before directing viewers to it.
- The picture or audio is wrong: Check the source file and playlist in Gyre, then verify actual playback on YouTube. Do not stop the old broadcast until the replacement is working as intended.
- Viewers cannot find the new stream: Check its privacy setting and share the correct event link. If the URL changed, update the places where you announced or embedded the previous event.
- The old and new streams are both public: Confirm which event viewers should use, stop the unintended broadcast, and update audience notices to point to the intended event.
- The recording is missing or incomplete: Check YouTube Studio’s live-stream archive. Restream’s guidance says streams under 12 hours are archived; do not treat that as a promise that a cross-service move creates one continuous VOD.
