You can move a FiveM server without resetting player progress if you treat the change as a controlled backup, restore, and verification exercise. Stop the old instance before the final copy, preserve the complete server files and txAdmin txData, export the framework database, provision a compatible destination, restore both files and database, update host-specific settings, and keep the old host intact until real players and persistent systems have been checked.
A working txAdmin panel by itself is not proof that the game server is reachable or that the correct database is attached. The migration is complete only after identities, inventories, economy, permissions, bans, scheduled jobs, integrations, and normal gameplay work from an outside client.

What must move for a true no-data-loss migration
A FiveM installation has several layers, and losing any one of them can make a move appear successful while player progress disappears. The runtime is the FXServer artifact or build and its startup script. The server data directory contains server.cfg, included configuration files, and every resource, including custom resources. txAdmin has its own txData directory containing panel accounts, configuration, its local database, and logs. Most frameworks keep player identities, characters, inventories, money, permissions, bans, or other persistent state in an external MySQL, MariaDB, or compatible database. Provider networking adds another layer: firewall rules, TCP and UDP game endpoints, the txAdmin panel port, DNS or IP values, and any provider-assigned port mapping.

Copying only the resources folder is therefore insufficient. Copying only txData is also insufficient if the framework database remains on the old host or the restored configuration points to the wrong server. Plan the move around all of these layers and keep an untouched rollback copy until the destination has passed production checks.

Inventory the old server before scheduling downtime
Make a written inventory while the old server is still running. Record the exact FXServer artifact or build, txAdmin version, operating system, framework, complete resource list, database engine, and provider port assignments. Include anything that is not visible in the main configuration file, such as scheduled tasks, webhooks, Discord integration, allowlists, bans, permissions, and startup parameters. This record gives you a reference when the destination behaves differently.

Choose and prepare a compatible destination
FiveM servers can run on Windows, Linux, txAdmin, or a game-server hosting provider. A Cfx Portal license key is required regardless of where the server runs. Choose a destination that gives you the access needed for the resource stack and database, rather than assuming that a panel-only plan is equivalent to a VPS with terminal and file-transfer access.
For a hosted FiveM destination, Godlike.Host offers a game panel, SFTP/FTP access, free DDoS protection, backups, and a free 1 GB/10-slot server card; free cards must be extended every 3 hours and have limited panel features and one location. It is not on Cfx.re’s list of authorized FiveM hosts (fivem.net, 10 Oct 2026).

Managed hosts may control artifact versions and port bindings. Ask for the actual assigned ports before restoring configuration; do not assume that a destination uses the same values as the old host.
Run the migration as a controlled sequence
1. Record versions, dependencies, and startup behavior
Write down the FXServer artifact, txAdmin version, operating system, framework, database engine, and every resource in load order. Note dependencies such as libraries or framework components that must be started first. Capture the current startup command or provider startup settings, but plan to initialize the destination without an exec argument so txAdmin can perform its first-run setup. Preserve the existing startup details separately; do not overwrite your reference while experimenting.
2. Announce a maintenance window and stop writes
Player actions that occur during a copy can leave the files and database at different points in time. Announce the maintenance window, stop the old FXServer and txAdmin instance, and verify that no scheduled task or external process can continue writing to the database or server files. The final archive should be made after writes have stopped. A stopped old host is safer than copying a live production directory, because the archive and SQL export then describe the same logical point in time.
3. Make two rollback copies of the server files
Archive the complete server data directory, all resources, configuration files, and the entire txAdmin txData directory. Keep one untouched copy separate from the archive you intend to restore. txAdmin’s getting-started guidance specifically advises backing up its folder and txData before changes. Verify that the archive can be opened and that custom resources and included configuration files are present; a successful transfer of an incomplete archive is still data loss.

Keep the old host powered on but stopped if possible. Do not delete or reinstall it during the first cutover. That preserved copy is your fastest rollback if the destination has an incompatible txData version, a bad resource, or an incorrect database import.
4. Export the framework database consistently
Create a consistent dump of the external MySQL, MariaDB, or other framework database while application writes are stopped. Record the database name, user, host, port, charset, and collation alongside the dump. The dump is the authoritative copy of player persistence; the server files alone do not contain those rows.
Check the dump file size and confirm that it completes without permission errors. Keep the export separate from the server archive so you have independent recovery paths. If a txAdmin recipe will be used later, remember that recipe tasks can connect to databases and run queries. Inspect every cleanup, replacement, or deletion option before execution, and retain the original dump regardless of what the recipe offers.
5. Provision the destination and initialize txAdmin
Install or select a compatible FXServer artifact on the new host. Start it without an exec argument so txAdmin can initialize, then note the data path selected by txAdmin. Managed providers may expose a different path or control the artifact and port assignments; use the provider’s actual path rather than assuming it matches the old host.
Confirm file ownership and permissions before copying data. The account that runs FXServer and txAdmin must be able to read resources and write logs, caches, and configuration. Keep the destination’s newly created folders until you have confirmed their paths; they are useful reference points even if you later replace their contents.
6. Restore server data, resources, and configuration deliberately
Place the archived server data and every resource in the destination path selected by txAdmin. Restore server.cfg and any included configuration files, preserving the directory structure expected by resource paths and ensure entries. Do not blindly copy host-specific paths, old IP addresses, provider startup flags, or old port values; those are reviewed in a later step.
Keep the untouched source archive and a copy of the destination files before making edits. This gives you a known-good file set if a configuration change introduces a new error. Confirm that custom resources are present, not merely the framework’s default folders.

7. Restore txAdmin only after checking compatibility
Restore the saved txData after confirming the destination’s txAdmin version, path, and permissions. This directory carries panel accounts, configuration, its local database, and logs, so restoring it can bring back administration state that a fresh installation would not have. Do not overwrite the only destination copy; retain a separate copy of the newly initialized txData first.
If the destination uses a different txAdmin version or a provider-managed layout, test with the untouched destination txData and keep the old directory available for rollback. An incompatible configuration can prevent the panel or server from starting even though the files themselves are complete.
8. Create the destination database and import the dump
Create the destination database with the intended name and charset/collation, create or configure the framework user, and grant that user access from the host where FXServer will run. Import the verified dump into this database, not into a similarly named default database. Then update the framework connection string in protected configuration so its host, port, database name, user, and password match the destination.
Database passwords belong in protected server files or provider settings. Never paste them into public logs, screenshots, tickets, or chat. Keep the Cfx Portal registration key private as well. If the framework connection string still points to the old host, the new server may start while reading stale data or may fail only when a player joins.
9. Replace host-specific paths, endpoints, and integrations
Review every setting that describes the machine rather than the game. Change filesystem paths, startup commands, firewall rules, hostname or IP references, provider-assigned game ports, txAdmin panel port, DNS or IP values, and webhook destinations where required. Recheck scheduled jobs, Discord integration, allowlists, bans, permissions, and any external callback that contains the old address.

10. Validate configuration before making the server public
Use txAdmin’s CFG editor and validator before the first public start. Check syntax, included files, and every ensure entry. Compare the resource list with the inventory made on the old host and confirm that dependencies are present and ordered correctly. A validator catches configuration mistakes; it does not prove that the database credentials, firewall, or game endpoint are correct.

Start the server and watch the complete Live Console, not just the first successful lines. Look for database connection errors, missing resources, permission failures, invalid paths, and scripts that stop during initialization. Fix one class of error at a time and restart from the known destination copy rather than repeatedly editing the only backup.
11. Test the game endpoint from outside the host
The game commonly uses port 30120 for TCP and UDP traffic, while txAdmin commonly uses TCP port 40120. These are operational defaults, not guarantees: providers may allocate different ports or require a mapping. Confirm the actual assigned values in the provider panel and firewall, then test both protocols from an outside client or network.

Open txAdmin and verify its live console, but also join through the normal FiveM client using the public endpoint. A reachable panel proves only that the panel port responds. It does not prove that the game TCP and UDP ports are open, mapped to the right process, or advertised with the correct hostname and IP.
12. Perform the cutover and keep rollback available
When the external join test succeeds, direct players to the new endpoint or update the DNS or IP value used by your community. Keep the old host stopped but intact. Do not remove its files, database dump, or credentials until a real-world verification period has passed and you have confirmed that no late save or integration issue remains.

Use an existing account with known state rather than only an administrator test account. Work through this checklist after joining the destination:
- The expected player identity or character loads, rather than a new character-creation screen.
- Inventory items, cash, bank balance, vehicles, properties, jobs, factions, and other framework-specific progression match the old server.
- Permissions, staff roles, allowlists, bans, and whitelists behave as intended.
- Scheduled jobs, persistence saves, and reconnect behavior work after leaving and rejoining.
- Custom resources start, interact with one another, and show no missing dependency errors in Live Console.
- Discord integration, webhooks, external callbacks, and notification channels reach the new endpoint.
- Players can connect from outside the hosting network over the actual public TCP and UDP game ports.
- txAdmin accounts, permissions, logs, and panel settings are present and usable by the administrators who need them.
Have a player perform a harmless state change, disconnect, and reconnect. This confirms not only that old rows can be read, but also that the destination can write new data to the restored database.

The server starts, but players appear to have no progress
The usual cause is a wrong or empty database, an import into a similarly named database, or a framework connection string still pointing at the old host. Stop public access, compare the destination database name and user with the recorded inventory, inspect the import result, and restore the known dump into the intended database before testing again.
Resources are missing or fail during startup
Check that the archive included custom resources and nested folders, that destination paths match the ensure entries, and that the runtime account can read them. Use the CFG validator and Live Console to identify the first missing dependency; later errors may simply be consequences of that failure.
txAdmin accounts or settings disappeared
Confirm that the correct txData was restored to the path selected by the destination txAdmin instance and that permissions allow it to read and write the directory. If versions differ, move the restored directory aside and start with the destination’s fresh txData while retaining the old copy for a controlled compatibility test.
txAdmin works, but nobody can join the game
Check the provider-assigned game endpoint, both TCP and UDP firewall rules, port mappings, hostname or IP values, and whether FXServer is listening on the expected interface. The panel’s TCP port is separate from the game endpoint; a healthy panel cannot validate game traffic.

Stop and restore from the untouched file archive and SQL dump. txAdmin recipe tasks can connect to databases and run queries, so inspect cleanup or deletion options before running a recipe against any production database. Never treat a recipe as a substitute for independent backups.
A key or password was exposed
Assume the credential is compromised. Replace the exposed Cfx Portal registration key or database password through the appropriate protected setting, update the destination configuration, and remove the secret from shared logs and support material. Keep future diagnostic excerpts redacted.
Rollback if validation fails
- Stop the destination FXServer and txAdmin instance so it cannot write partial or conflicting state.
- Keep the destination files and database for diagnosis; do not overwrite evidence before identifying the failure.
- Start the old host from its untouched files and original database connection, with public settings restored if you changed them during cutover.
- Tell players to use the old endpoint and verify a known account can load and save normally.
- Correct the destination issue using the archived files, txData, and SQL dump, then repeat validation before another cutover.
Rollback is safest when the old host was stopped rather than modified. If players made changes on the destination before rollback, record that fact and decide which database state is authoritative before importing anything again; blindly merging two live histories can overwrite progress.
When is the migration finished?
Consider the move complete only when the destination has passed configuration validation, a clean startup, database read and write tests, external TCP and UDP connectivity, and real-player checks for identities, inventories, economy, permissions, bans, scheduled jobs, integrations, and custom resource behavior. Retain the old host, file archive, txData copy, and SQL dump until that verification is finished. The durable rule is simple: preserve every data layer, change host-specific values deliberately, and never discard the rollback path until the new server has demonstrated that it can both load and save the community’s real state.
