A 100-inch label does not prove that a television will fit a particular wall mount or that your wall can support it. Safe installation starts with the exact TV model, its weight without the stand, its VESA mounting pattern, the mount’s load and pattern limits, and the wall construction. Compare those facts before you buy hardware or drill a hole.
Start with the exact TV, not the 100-inch diagonal
Screen size is only a secondary compatibility check. Two televisions with the same 100-inch diagonal can have different weights, hole spacing, screw requirements and centers of gravity. QualGear explicitly notes that screen size alone does not determine whether a mount fits.

Record the model-specific specifications
Find the model number on the television’s rear label, original documentation or the manufacturer’s support page. Then consult that model’s official specification sheet or wall-mounting section of the manual and record:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Weight without the stand: use the TV-only figure, not the shipping weight or the weight with the pedestal attached.
- VESA pattern: the horizontal by vertical distance between the threaded mounting holes, in millimetres. A pattern such as 800 × 600 mm means the holes are 800 mm apart horizontally and 600 mm vertically.
- Screw requirements: diameter, thread pitch, minimum and maximum engagement, and whether spacers are required. These vary by TV model.
- Rear-panel clearance: note any recessed holes, cable plugs or protrusions that could prevent the mounting arms or plate from sitting flat.
Write these values down before looking at products. If the manual does not state a value clearly, ask the TV manufacturer or a qualified installer rather than guessing.

Match both load and VESA limits
A mount is compatible only when the TV’s weight is within its published maximum and every mounting hole falls within a supported VESA pattern. A mount rated for a 100-inch screen may still fail to fit a television whose pattern is wider or taller than the mount allows. Treat the screen-size range as a quick screening figure, never as proof of fit.
Check the wall before selecting the hardware
The same mount can require completely different fasteners and attachment points on a wood-stud wall, brick, or concrete. Use the wall types listed for the chosen mount and follow its manual; do not substitute a general-purpose drywall plug or a screw left over from another project.
Wood-stud walls
Locate the actual stud centers and confirm their spacing and condition. A large display produces substantial leverage, particularly when a tilting or articulating arm is extended. The mount manual should identify which holes must land in the studs and which fasteners are permitted. LG’s OSW100 instructions, for example, direct the installer to find and mark stud centers, level the marks, drill to a specified depth and avoid overtightening because excessive force can damage drywall. Those measurements and fasteners apply to that product, not to every 100-inch TV or mount.

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteBrick and concrete
Use a mount whose instructions specifically permit masonry installation and identify the required anchors. Eaton lists its DWM60100XX for wood stud, brick or concrete walls, but that does not make every anchor suitable for every block, mortar joint or concrete condition. The installer must verify the substrate, hole locations and anchor instructions in the current manual.
Drywall, plaster and uncertain construction
Drywall by itself is not a substitute for the structural attachment described by the mount manufacturer. If you cannot identify studs, structural blocking or the type and condition of masonry, stop and obtain qualified help before drilling. Concealed wiring, plumbing and uneven surfaces are additional reasons to have the wall assessed professionally.
How much wall strength is enough?
Sony’s wall-mount FAQ recommends a wall capable of holding four times the TV’s weight and strongly recommends qualified professional installation. That is Sony’s stated guidance, not a universal building-code rule. Local requirements, the building structure and the mount’s own instructions still control the installation decision.
Choose fixed, tilting or full-motion movement
Once fit and wall structure are known, choose movement based on viewing position and the clearance you need. Movement does not compensate for an incorrect VESA pattern, inadequate load rating or unsuitable wall.

| Mount style | Best use | Advantages | Trade-offs |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fixed | A straight-on viewing position with no adjustment needed | Usually the closest profile and the simplest mechanism | Little or no angle adjustment; cable access can be tight |
| Tilting | A TV mounted above eye level or in a room with changing glare | Allows vertical angle adjustment while keeping the TV relatively close | Does not provide side-to-side positioning; extension and clearance remain limited |
| Full-motion or articulating | Seats or viewing areas spread across the room | Can extend, swivel, tilt and often level the display | Projects farther from the wall, increases leverage and requires careful movement clearance |
Manufacturer examples and their published limits
The following products illustrate why the specifications matter more than a “100-inch compatible” label. The figures are manufacturer specifications, not independent testing or a guarantee that a particular wall installation is safe.
| Model | Style | Published screen range | Maximum load | Published VESA information | Other stated details |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| QualGear QG-TM-090-BLK | Fixed | 60–100 inches (152–254 cm) | 220 lb / 100 kg | 200 × 200 through 900 × 600 mm | 1.26 inches / 3.2 cm wall profile |
| Eaton Tripp Lite DWM60100XX | Full motion | 60–100 inches | 275 lb | Numerous patterns, including 800 × 600 and 900 × 600 mm | Lists tilt, swivel, leveling adjustment and extension; intended for wood stud, brick or concrete walls |
| StarTech 100AP1 | Articulating | Up to 100 inches | 187.4 lb / 85 kg | Up to 800 × 500 mm | Manufacturer recommends certified professional installation |
For example, a TV using a 900 × 600 mm pattern cannot be assumed to fit a mount whose largest supported pattern is 800 × 500 mm, even though both products mention 100-inch screens. Confirm the exact model’s pattern and weight against the current product manual.
What “compatible” means in practice
Compatibility is a chain of checks rather than a single badge on a product page. The TV must be within the mount’s load limit, its complete VESA pattern must be supported, the supplied or specified screws must match the TV inserts, and the rear of the set must clear the plate, arms and cable connectors. The mount must also be approved for the actual wall construction and installed at the attachment points described in its manual.
Check whether the manufacturer’s load rating applies to the mount in a particular position. A full-motion arm may have a stated capacity, but extension increases leverage and can reduce practical clearance around the wall plate. Confirm the permitted tilt, swivel and extension range before assuming the screen can move freely. For a fixed mount, measure the wall profile against power plugs, HDMI connectors and ventilation space; a close-fitting mount can make cable installation difficult even when the VESA and weight figures match.
Use a comparison worksheet
Create one row for the TV and one for each candidate mount. Record TV-only weight, VESA width and height, screw and spacer requirements, mount maximum load, supported VESA range, wall types, wall profile and movement range. A candidate is not ready for purchase until every column is confirmed from the relevant manufacturer documentation. Save the manuals or product pages with the model numbers, since product listings and hardware kits can change.
Plan the installation and lifting operation
A 100-inch display is large enough that handling, visibility and workspace become safety issues in their own right. Clear furniture and obstacles, protect the screen and arrange enough room to attach the TV without twisting it. Follow the mount manual for the mounting height, plate orientation, cable clearance and fastener sequence.
Use two or more people
LG’s OSW100 manual states: “Always install the display with 2 or more people.” Treat that as a minimum handling requirement for that installation. A second person should help carry, align and support the display while the locking mechanism is engaged. Do not attempt to hold a 100-inch panel overhead while trying to start screws.

When professional installation is the sensible choice
Use a qualified installer when you cannot confidently identify the wall construction, cannot verify the allowed fasteners, lack a safe lifting plan, or need the display mounted on masonry or an unusual structure. Sony recommends qualified professionals, and LG directs readers who do not understand its instructions to contact a dealer for a specialised installer. Professional help is also appropriate when electrical, plumbing or structural risks cannot be ruled out.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteStep-by-step: a safe compatibility and mounting sequence
- Identify the TV. Record the complete model number, TV-only weight, VESA width and height, and the model-specific screw and spacer requirements from the official documentation.
- Shortlist mounts by load and VESA. Reject any model whose maximum load is below the TV’s weight or whose supported pattern does not include every mounting hole. Use screen size only as a secondary check.
- Read the mount manual before purchase. Confirm permitted wall types, required fasteners, minimum stud engagement, clearance behind the TV, movement limits and the installation layout. Make sure the manual’s method suits your wall.
- Inspect and map the wall. Locate stud centers or assess the masonry, check for structural blocking and identify possible wiring or plumbing. Do not rely on a visual estimate or attach a heavy mount only to unsupported drywall unless the manufacturer explicitly permits that method.
- Mark the position exactly as instructed. Use the manual’s reference points, mark the structural attachment locations and verify the plate is level. LG’s OSW100 procedure includes locating and marking stud centers and levelling the marks; other products may use different dimensions.
- Drill and fasten using the specified method. Match the bit, hole depth, anchor and screw type to the chosen mount and wall. Do not reuse anchors from another mount. Tighten only as instructed; LG warns that overtightening can damage drywall.
- Prepare the TV hardware. Install the correct screws and spacers for the TV model. They must engage the threaded inserts correctly without bottoming out or forcing against the panel. If the screw length is unclear, stop and obtain the manufacturer’s specification.
- Lift and attach the display with at least two people. Support the panel by its frame as directed, align the mounting arms or hooks and engage every safety lock. Do not release the TV until the mount’s retention procedure has been completed.
- Test before routing cables. Gently check that the display is seated, level and locked. For a moving mount, operate it through its permitted range slowly and confirm that the TV does not contact the wall, that cables are not pulled tight and that the structure does not flex.
- Finish and recheck. Route cables with enough slack for the selected movement, replace any covers and perform the final inspection specified by the mount manual. Recheck fasteners after the first movement and whenever the mount shows looseness, tilting or unusual noise.
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
Buying by diagonal alone
A 100-inch range can hide major differences in VESA dimensions and weight limits. Always compare the TV-only weight and complete VESA pattern first.
Using the TV’s stand weight
The stand is removed for wall mounting. Using a combined or shipping figure can produce the wrong load comparison. Use the exact “without stand” value from the TV documentation.
Assuming included screws fit every television
Mount hardware is not universal. A screw can appear to fit while failing to provide the required thread engagement or damaging a recessed insert. Follow the TV and mount manuals together and use spacers only where specified.
Attaching to the wrong part of the wall
Stud locations, masonry condition and permitted anchor points determine the attachment. A level mark on drywall is not evidence of structural support. If the substrate is uncertain, pause rather than improvising.

Overtightening
More torque is not automatically safer. Excessive force can damage drywall or the mount, as LG cautions in its OSW100 instructions. Use the tightening method and limits stated by the chosen manufacturer.
Ignoring articulation leverage
When a full-motion arm extends, the load acts farther from the wall. Confirm that the mount is rated for the TV in its intended configuration and that the wall attachment is designed for that product. Keep the movement within the published range.

Installing alone
The screen can twist, strike the wall or fall while one person tries to align hardware. Follow LG’s two-person instruction and use professional assistance when the lift cannot be controlled safely.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. After installation: verify and monitor the mount
Do not treat the first successful lift as the end of the job. Inspect the locking tabs, safety screws, plate and visible fasteners against the mount manual. Confirm that the screen is level and that no corner is pulling away from the wall. If the mount includes a leveling adjustment, use it only within the specified range rather than forcing the panel.
Move an articulating mount slowly through its allowed positions while watching the wall plate and the cables. Stop if the plate flexes, the TV shifts, a fastener turns, or a cable becomes taut. Keep children and furniture clear of the movement path. Any new sagging, tilt, looseness or unusual noise is a reason to stop using the mount and have the installation inspected.
A final decision checklist
- Do you have the exact TV model number and its weight without the stand?
- Is the complete VESA pattern within the mount’s stated range?
- Is the TV weight below the mount’s maximum load, with the manufacturer’s margin and configuration requirements respected?
- Does the mount manual explicitly allow your wall type and specify the fasteners you will use?
- Have you located the required studs, blocking or sound masonry and checked for hidden services?
- Does the chosen style provide the viewing angle and cable clearance you actually need?
- Can at least two people safely lift and attach the display?
- Can you verify that the TV is locked, level and stable before moving it or routing cables?
If any answer is no or unknown, do not buy or drill yet. Resolve that model-specific or wall-specific question with the manufacturer’s documentation or a qualified installer.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is any mount labeled for 100-inch TVs automatically compatible?
No. Check the exact television’s weight without its stand and its horizontal-by-vertical VESA pattern. The mount must support both figures, along with the TV’s screw, spacer and rear-clearance requirements. A screen-size label is only a preliminary filter.
What VESA size does a 100-inch TV use?
There is no single pattern for all 100-inch televisions. Examples of supported patterns on different mounts include 800 × 600 and 900 × 600 mm, while StarTech’s 100AP1 is listed up to 800 × 500 mm. Read the exact TV manual and compare both dimensions with the mount.

How many people are needed to install a 100-inch TV?
LG’s OSW100 manual says, “Always install the display with 2 or more people.” Use at least two people for carrying, alignment and engaging the mount’s lock. A qualified installer is sensible when the panel cannot be safely controlled.
Should I choose a fixed or full-motion mount?
Choose fixed when the viewing position is straight on and a close wall profile is preferred. Choose tilting for vertical angle or glare adjustment, and full motion when viewers sit in different positions. All three styles still require the same weight, VESA, wall and manual checks.
What wall strength does Sony recommend?
Sony’s wall-mount FAQ says the selected wall should be able to hold four times the TV’s weight and strongly recommends qualified professional installation. Treat that as Sony’s guidance, not a universal building-code requirement; local rules and the mount instructions also apply.
Recommended Free Tools
Can I use the screws and anchors included with another mount?
No. Hardware is model- and wall-specific. Use the screw type, length, spacers, anchors and hole dimensions specified by the TV and chosen mount manuals. Reusing hardware can leave inadequate thread engagement or damage the wall or TV insert.
When should I hire a professional installer?
Hire one if you cannot identify studs or sound masonry, cannot verify fasteners, need an unusual wall structure, cannot rule out wiring or plumbing, or cannot safely lift and lock the display with two people. Sony recommends qualified professionals, and LG directs users who do not understand its instructions to a specialised installer.
The Bottom Line
To mount a 100-inch TV safely, begin with the exact model—not the diagonal. Confirm the TV-only weight, complete VESA pattern, screw and spacer requirements, and rear clearance. Select a mount whose load, VESA and wall specifications all match, then follow that model’s instructions for studs or masonry, drilling, fastening and locking. Use at least two people, and choose qualified professional installation whenever the wall, hardware or lifting plan is uncertain.
