Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteFor a few channels, subscribe on YouTube, check the Subscriptions feed, and set each channel’s bell to All for more alerts. Notifications are not a complete record of uploads, though. To monitor a larger list or track title and description changes, use the YouTube Data API: retrieve each channel’s uploads playlist, periodically check its videos, and compare the results with data you saved earlier.
Choose a monitoring method
| Need | Best fit | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Follow a handful of channels personally | YouTube subscriptions, the Subscriptions feed, and channel notifications | Simple setup, but notifications may omit uploads. |
| Check many public channels on a schedule | YouTube Data API polling | Repeatable checks at the cadence you choose; you need to store and compare results. |
| Detect changes to titles or descriptions | Save API metadata snapshots and diff them over time | Finds differences visible at check time; it is not a complete edit history or instant alert system. |
Monitor a few channels with YouTube
- Open the channel’s YouTube page and select Subscribe. YouTube says new videos from subscribed channels appear in the Subscriptions feed. See YouTube’s subscription instructions.
- After subscribing, select the bell next to the channel’s subscription controls and choose All if you want more alerts than the default Personalized setting. Notification delivery may be by mobile, web, or inbox depending on your settings and device; see YouTube’s notification instructions.
- Use the Subscriptions feed as a second way to check recent uploads rather than treating alerts as a complete log.
Why alerts can be missed
Even with All selected, YouTube does not promise a notification for every upload. Its Help page says not every new upload results in a notification, and channels whose audience is set as Made for Kids do not send notifications. YouTube also limits notification volume: “Limiting notifications to 3 new video notifications per channel per 24-hour period helps keep viewers active on YouTube long-term.” This is YouTube’s stated limit, not a promise that every viewer will receive exactly three alerts. See YouTube Help: Fix subscriber notification problems.

Monitor many channels with the YouTube Data API
The documented route is to get a channel’s uploads playlist ID from its channel resource, then list items in that playlist. Save video IDs you have already seen; when a later poll returns an ID not in your saved set, treat it as a newly observed upload. The API documents retrieval, while persistence, scheduling, and deduplication are implementation choices.

Set up the API project
- In Google Cloud, create or select a project and enable the YouTube Data API v3. Follow Google’s YouTube Data API overview for project setup and credentials.
- For private application scripts, create an API key and keep it out of public repositories and browser code. Use the credential type and restrictions appropriate to your application.
- Record the channel IDs you want to monitor. The examples below use channel IDs, not display names or handles.
Find a channel’s uploads playlist
Call channels.list with part=contentDetails and the channel ID. Read contentDetails.relatedPlaylists.uploads from the matching channel. Google documents this field in Channels: list.

- NEW: Now with integrated video search
- NEW: Playlist Download with one click - NEW: Customize the audio quality
- NEW: Direct download as MP3
- NEW: Support for multiple audio tracks
- High-speed downloads in up to 4K and 8K quality
Example request:
GET https://www.googleapis.com/youtube/v3/channels?part=contentDetails&id=CHANNEL_ID&key=YOUR_API_KEY
List uploads and persist what you have seen
Call playlistItems.list with part=snippet, contentDetails, the uploads playlist ID, and a page size such as maxResults=50. The response represents videos in the playlist; see PlaylistItems: list.
GET https://www.googleapis.com/youtube/v3/playlistItems?part=snippet,contentDetails&playlistId=UPLOADS_PLAYLIST_ID&maxResults=50&key=YOUR_API_KEY
For each item, store the video ID (available as contentDetails.videoId) and the fields you need. On the next poll, compare returned IDs with the saved set, process unseen IDs as newly observed uploads, then update your saved state. If the playlist has more results, follow nextPageToken until you have covered the results relevant to your use case. Do not assume that one page is the entire upload history.
Track title or description changes
For videos of interest, request their metadata through videos.list and save a baseline of the properties you care about. The API’s snippet fields include channelId, title, description, tags, and categoryId; see Videos: list. On later reads, compare each field with your saved snapshot and record differences with the check time.

This polling-and-diff approach is an implementation inference from the returned fields, not a dedicated YouTube metadata-change alert feed. It can show that a value differs between two observations, but does not establish when the edit happened or preserve revisions that are no longer returned.
Plan polling frequency and quota
At the time of writing, Google’s API overview states a default allocation of 10,000 quota units per day combined for most endpoints, with separate allocations for search.list and videos.insert. The channels.list and playlistItems.list reference pages each list a one-unit quota impact per call. These figures are stated by Google, with no publication year stated on those pages; confirm your project’s current quota and endpoint costs before relying on them. See Google’s API overview, Channels: list, and PlaylistItems: list.
Estimate your calls before setting a schedule: each channel check needs at least a playlist-items request, plus extra requests for additional pages; periodic metadata checks add videos.list calls. More frequent polling makes new observations sooner but uses quota more quickly. Spread checks out if freshness is not critical, and avoid repeatedly fetching unchanged history unnecessarily.

ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server, not a YouTube upload monitor. If your workflow also needs to capture public web pages, one GET request can return an image or PDF. Its clean-shot options remove cookie/consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; bot checks, blank pages, and failed loads are not billed. An MCP server lets AI agents use its screenshot tools. See ScreenshotNeo and the API documentation.

I subscribed but did not receive an alert
Check that the bell is set to All, then check the Subscriptions feed. Alerts are not guaranteed for every upload, and Made for Kids channels do not send notifications.
The API returns no channel or playlist item
Confirm the channel ID is correct and that your request includes the required parameters and valid API key. For the playlist request, use the uploads playlist ID returned by the channel resource, not the channel ID itself. Review the request parameters in Google’s Channels: list and PlaylistItems: list references.

A channel has more uploads than the response shows
Check for nextPageToken and request subsequent pages when you need to cover more than the current page. Store processed video IDs so fetching another page or repeating a poll does not create duplicate events.

A metadata edit was not detected
A comparison can only find differences between snapshots you actually saved. If a field changed and changed back between checks, your snapshots may not reveal the intermediate edit. Check that your saved baseline includes the exact fields you intend to monitor and that each poll retrieves those fields.
The script reaches its quota
Check the project’s current quota and usage, count page and metadata requests as well as channel checks, and reduce polling frequency or unnecessary repeat calls. Google’s documented default allocation can change and does not apply indiscriminately to search.list or videos.insert.

Frequently asked questions
Can I monitor a channel without subscribing?
Yes. A script can use the Data API uploads-playlist pattern for public channels; YouTube subscriptions are the simpler personal-feed option.
Can the API tell me exactly when a title was edited?
Not from the fields described here. Comparing saved snapshots can establish that the returned value differs between checks, not the edit’s exact time or full revision history.
Will polling give me real-time upload alerts?
No. It detects items when your scheduled check observes them; the delay depends on your polling interval and successful API requests.
