To monitor an email address for future data breaches, enroll it with a breach-alert service, verify that you control the inbox, and keep that inbox accessible. Have I Been Pwned and Mozilla Monitor both offer notifications when they add a matching breach to their records. Neither can guarantee that every breach will be found, so a clean result means only that the address was not found in that service’s current records.
How do I monitor my email for future data breaches?
Choose a service, enter the address you want watched, and complete its verification step. Use an inbox you still control: the service needs to confirm the address, and you need to be able to receive future notices there.

- Go to the official service site. Choose Mozilla Monitor or Have I Been Pwned’s notification service; avoid signing up through an unsolicited email link.
- Add your email address. Enter the address whose exposure you want to track.
- Verify it from your inbox. Have I Been Pwned sends a verification link to the address. Mozilla Monitor also requires each added address to be verified.
- Finish service-specific setup. Mozilla Monitor requires a Mozilla account for future alerts. Its dashboard monitors verified addresses automatically; Mozilla Support says free monitoring supports up to 20 addresses.
- Check that monitoring is active. Review the service dashboard or confirmation. If a legitimate alert is missing, check spam; Mozilla identifies
[email protected]and Have I Been Pwned identifies[email protected]as notification senders.
Mozilla Monitor’s setup requirements and free address limit are described in Mozilla’s Monitor help page. Have I Been Pwned explains its verification-based notification setup on its notification page.
Which email breach alert service should I use?
Both services can notify you about matching records they add to their databases. Mozilla Monitor uses Have I Been Pwned as its breach data source, so the two are not independent databases for a head-to-head accuracy comparison. The documented sources do not establish that either service detects breaches more completely or sends alerts faster.

See the Mozilla Monitor FAQ, the Have I Been Pwned notification page, and its FAQ for their respective service details.
Can I get alerts when my email appears in a new breach?
Yes, if a monitored service discovers a breach, verifies it, and adds records containing your address. Mozilla Monitor says, “We send notifications as soon as a breach is discovered, verified and added to our database.” That describes the service’s process; it is not a promise that it will learn about an incident immediately after it happens.

Breaches can take months or years to surface, may never be discovered, or may not be available to a service’s data source. Mozilla says it searches public breaches going back to 2007, but historical reach does not mean complete coverage. Have I Been Pwned likewise says its database contains only a subset of all breached records. A no-match result should be read as “not found in this service’s current records,” not proof that the address has never been exposed or compromised.

An address listed in a breach record also does not always mean you remember signing up for the named site. The service may have changed names, someone else may have used your address, or the record may come from a combined list or data aggregator. These are possibilities to investigate, not proof of what happened in a particular case. Mozilla describes these caveats in its Monitor FAQ; Have I Been Pwned explains database limitations in its FAQ.

What should I do if my email is found in a breach?
- Verify the notice safely. Open the affected organization’s known official website or app yourself and look for incident guidance. Do not sign in through an unexpected message link.
- Change the affected account’s password. If you reused that password elsewhere, replace it on those accounts too. Give each account a strong, unique password; a password manager can help store them safely.
- Turn on multifactor authentication where available. Follow setup instructions on the affected service’s official site or app.
- Check related financial activity if relevant. If payment or other financial information was involved, review the relevant financial accounts and credit reports for suspicious activity.
- Watch for follow-up scams. Treat requests for your password, one-time code, payment, or an urgent login through an unfamiliar link as suspicious. The FTC advises against clicking unexpected message links or opening unexpected attachments.
Mozilla recommends unique passwords and says a password manager can help store them. Its documentation also says Mozilla Monitor does not know users’ passwords. For more, see Mozilla Monitor’s guidance, the FTC’s advice on recognizing and avoiding phishing scams, and the FTC’s password and multifactor authentication guidance.

- Re Inking Unlimitedly: the information blocker stamp can cover information of the length about 100 meters. - Cover Fast: our identity protection rollers come in 2 different sizes, and you can choose different sizes according to different areas of information to cover large amounts of private information in a fast and clean way, avoiding identity theft and rejecting privacy disclosure harassment
- Easy to Use: just remove the lid on the ID stamp blocker roller and open it, and then gently slide it on the place where the information needs to be covered. It is suitable for most ordinary paper with black words, and can protect your personal privacy in time
- Save Time and Energy: compared with the shredder, the personal confidential stamp has a small size, easy to carry, can be applied anytime and anywhere. Compared to the marker, it covers a larger area and can be quickly covered with a single swipe. There is no need to worry about whether you can not protect your privacy in time
An alert service can report a matching record and point you toward protective steps; it cannot prevent the breach or undo information that has already been exposed. Mozilla puts the limitation plainly: “No one — not even Firefox — can prevent data breaches from happening.”
