Run the same public starting URL from each region you care about, verify the final URL and rendered regional content, and save a screenshot with the probe location, timestamp, response status, and browser environment. A successful response from the starting URL alone does not prove that the visitor landed on the right regional page.
What a useful regional screenshot check needs to prove
A screenshot is evidence of one browser session from one location at one point in time. To make it useful for monitoring, keep it with the information that explains what the image shows:

- Probe location: the specific country or city used by the monitoring runner, not just a broad label such as “Europe.”
- Starting URL and final URL: the public URL a visitor would enter and the destination reached after redirects.
- Response status: the response received after navigation settles.
- Expected regional outcome: an assertion such as the destination URL, locale or currency selector, regional banner, or stable page heading.
- Capture context: timestamp, browser and version, viewport or device, and whether the browser context was clean or retained cookies.
- Screenshot and logs: retain both so an image can be traced to the navigation and assertion that produced it.
Use a browser check when redirects or page content depend on JavaScript, cookies, or interaction. An HTTP-only monitor can check response and redirect behavior, but it cannot establish what a rendered browser page looks like.

Playwright gives you control over navigation, assertions, screenshots, and visual comparisons. You must provide the runner, schedule, storage, and alerting yourself. Run the script separately from each relevant country or city; the browser’s configured geolocation is not the same thing as changing its public IP address.

Install and configure
For a JavaScript project, install Playwright and its Chromium browser:

To retain evidence for failures too, adapt the error handling to save the current URL, response details, console or network logs, and a diagnostic screenshot before closing the browser.

page.goto() follows redirects and resolves with the first non-redirect response, so inspect the page’s resulting URL rather than treating the initial URL as the destination. The response status, final URL, and rendered assertion answer different questions and should all be recorded. See the Playwright Page API for navigation and screenshot options.

Do not rely on a fixed short sleep as the readiness condition. Wait for a meaningful destination URL, visible regional text, or another stable element that signals the correct state. A page may continue changing after initial navigation because client-side code updates the locale or content.
Choose probe locations that match your routing rules
Decide which actual countries or cities matter to your audience, then confirm that your runner or monitoring service can execute from those locations. A broad regional label can conceal a country-specific rule: a probe from one European country may not reproduce behavior for another. Store the exact location label with every result.
Keep the public starting URL in the check. If the purpose is to monitor the routing decision, starting from a regional landing page bypasses the behavior you need to test. Run independent checks for the same entry URL from each required location, each with its own expected destination and content assertion.

Keep screenshot comparisons interpretable
Visual differences do not always indicate a website regression. Operating system, browser version, settings, hardware, power state, and headless mode can all affect rendering. Keep the baseline and scheduled runs on a consistent environment, viewport, browser, and context policy. Playwright’s visual comparisons guidance describes these sources of variation and screenshot assertions that wait for consecutive captures to stabilize.

- Decide whether each run should use a clean browser context or model a returning visitor with persistent cookies. A stored consent choice, locale, or location preference can override IP-derived behavior.
- Stabilize or mask genuinely dynamic regions, such as rotating promotions or timestamps, before interpreting pixel differences.
- Capture after the expected regional state is visible, not while a redirect or client-side update is still in progress.
- Keep browser and host configuration aligned between baseline creation and monitoring runs.
Alert separately on wrong destination, missing expected content, failed navigation, and visual differences. A visual alert is most useful after URL and content checks establish that the right regional page loaded.
Use a hosted service when you need scheduled regional runs
If you do not want to own the schedule, browser infrastructure, artifact storage, and alerting, a synthetic-monitoring service may cover some or all of that work. Verify its current locations, plan entitlements, run frequency, retention, and browser/device choices before relying on it; these vary and the cited documentation does not establish current prices or quotas.

Checkly’s documentation repository includes an example with US, Europe, and Asia-Pacific locations, a Playwright browser check, and URL monitors that follow redirects and assert the final HTTP response. Compare the operational details before choosing
- Exact geographic coverage, including whether a location matches the country-specific routing under test.
- Run frequency and how failures are surfaced.
- Browser and device configuration, and whether you can keep it consistent with the visual baseline.
- Script flexibility for final-URL, status, and rendered-content assertions.
- Screenshot and log retention, integrations, and private-network support.
- Who maintains the scripts and execution environment, and the service’s current cost and quotas.
Troubleshoot common false alarms and missed redirects
The starting URL returns success, but users land in the wrong country
A successful initial request does not establish that the redirect target is correct. Capture and assert the final URL, then check a regional page element or text as well as the response status.
The screenshot shows an intermediate page
The capture may have run before a client-side redirect or content update. Wait for the expected URL or a visible page assertion before taking the image; avoid replacing that condition with an arbitrary brief delay.
One location passes while a nearby market fails
The routing rule may be country-specific, while the probe label may represent only a broad region. Match the probe to the actual country or city rule and record its precise location.

Results change between runs without a site change
Check for differences in host operating system, browser version, browser settings, hardware, power state, or headless mode. Also inspect consent, locale, and geolocation cookies. Choose a consistent clean-session or returning-user policy and use it for both baseline and scheduled checks.

The check cannot find the expected regional text
First inspect the saved URL, response, and page state to determine whether the redirect failed or the assertion is too brittle. Prefer a stable heading, locale control, or other meaningful element over text likely to change frequently; do not weaken the check until it passes without confirming the intended regional experience.

Can an HTTP monitor tell me what a visitor sees after a regional redirect?
It can check HTTP responses and redirect behavior, but it cannot confirm client-rendered content or the visual appearance of the page. Use a browser check for those.
Should I store screenshots from every successful run?
Choose retention based on how far back you need to investigate changes and the storage or service limits available to you; those policies are specific to your setup.
