What you are monitoring
A registration page can change in several ways: an event date may move, a venue may change, capacity may open or close, a price may be updated, or registration may switch between open, waitlist, and closed. Your monitor should turn those meaningful changes into an auditable record rather than alerting on every byte that differs.

Define the monitored surface before writing code. For each page, record its canonical URL, the expected HTTP status, and extraction rules for the title, date, venue, capacity, registration state, and registration link. Store this configuration in version control so a selector change is reviewable.
Website content versus Solana state
Solana RPC is a separate observation layer. The official overview says, “Solana RPC provides methods to read network state, send transactions, simulate execution, and subscribe to live updates.” See the Solana RPC overview for cluster-specific HTTP endpoints and WebSocket subscriptions. The @solana/web3.js Connection API has listeners for account, program-account, log, and slot changes, with methods to remove those listeners.

Those callbacks tell you about chain activity; they do not tell you that an event website changed its HTML. Monitor the page directly, and add RPC correlation only when you need to explain an update with on-chain evidence.
Reference architecture
- Scheduler: starts a check at a chosen interval and adds jitter so many URLs do not hit one host simultaneously.
- Acquirer: performs a normal HTTP request first, with an explicit user agent, timeout, retry limit, and response-size limit.
- Renderer: launches a headless browser only if the useful registration content is missing from the HTTP response.
- Extractor: selects the configured registration region or fields.
- Canonicalizer: removes known noise and normalizes the remaining representation.
- Comparator: computes a cryptographic hash and compares it with the previous successful result.
- Snapshot store: writes the raw response or rendered DOM, canonical data, manifest, and diff without overwriting the last good snapshot.
- Notifier: alerts on a meaningful change, repeated failures, or a selector that returns no expected records.
A useful manifest records the requested URL, final URL after redirects, status, retrieval time, content hash, parser version, acquisition method, and failure state. Include the configuration version and browser version when rendering is used.
Step 1: Define a versioned monitor configuration
Keep one configuration entry per page. A JSON file is sufficient for a small deployment:

}Use a selector that encloses the stable registration content rather than the entire document. If a site redesign changes that selector, review and version the configuration instead of silently accepting an empty result.
Step 2: Fetch politely and classify the response
Start with ordinary HTTP. Set a descriptive user agent, enforce a connection and total timeout, cap the response size, and retry only transient failures. Respect the site’s terms and robots guidance. Add random delay around the scheduled time when monitoring several pages.
Do not treat every non-200 response as a content change. Keep these states distinct:

Never replace a valid snapshot with an error page. That rule prevents an outage from looking like an event cancellation.
Step 3: Render JavaScript pages only when necessary
Inspect the raw response first. If it contains the event date, status, and registration list, an HTTP client is cheaper and simpler. If the HTML is only an application shell and the details appear after JavaScript runs, use a headless browser.

- Launch a pinned browser version with a bounded navigation timeout.
- Navigate to the configured URL.
- Wait for a specific registration selector, not an arbitrary long sleep.
- Optionally wait for network idle when the page makes several data requests.
- Extract the post-render DOM or the configured fields.
- Record the browser and parser versions in the manifest.
Authentication, consent dialogs, and CAPTCHA challenges can change the acquisition method. If a check cannot complete without human interaction, classify it as blocked or unavailable rather than hashing the challenge screen.
Step 4: Canonicalize before hashing
Hash only the content that represents registration facts. Remove scripts, navigation, analytics identifiers, rotating tokens, and other known noise. Normalize whitespace, Unicode, line endings, and attribute ordering. Do not remove fields whose changes matter, including date, venue, capacity, price, or registration status.
For field-level monitoring, serialize a sorted object so equivalent data always has the same byte order:

A whole-page hash is easy to implement but is more sensitive to layout and advertising changes; field extraction requires more setup but produces more precise alerts.
Step 5: Save a baseline, snapshots, and diffs
The first successful run establishes a baseline and should not page anyone as a change. On later runs, compare the new canonical hash with the previous successful hash.
- Write the raw response or rendered DOM with a UTC filename such as
2026-10-16T14-30-00Z.html(or JSON when using field extraction). - Write a manifest containing URL, final URL, status, retrieval time, hash, parser version, acquisition method, and state.
- Generate a unified text diff or a structured field diff against the immediately preceding successful snapshot.
- Keep the prior snapshot immutable; create a new object for every changed result.
- Send an alert that includes the changed fields, timestamp, snapshot location, and final URL.
Local files work for a single monitor. Git gives a readable history for small text snapshots. Object storage is more appropriate for many pages or long retention; add lifecycle rules to compress or expire old raw pages while retaining manifests and important diffs.
Step 6: Choose an interval and retention policy
Base the schedule on how quickly the registration state can change and how much load the site can reasonably handle:

These are operational starting points, not published change-rate statistics. Adjust them for the site’s policies, observed behavior, and the importance of timely alerts. Retain enough history to answer when a date, venue, or status changed; compress old raw pages if storage is limited.

Step 7: Verify the alert pipeline
Do not wait for a real event edit to test the system. Use a fixture page or controlled staging copy and verify all of the following:
- Changing only whitespace does not trigger an alert.
- Changing the date, venue, capacity, price, or registration status does trigger an alert.
- A redirect is recorded as redirected, not changed.
- An outage is recorded as unavailable and leaves the last good snapshot intact.
- A selector that returns zero expected records creates a parse-error alert.
- A first successful run creates a baseline without a false change notification.
Correlating page changes with Solana activity
If you need to explain a page update with chain activity, store the Solana cluster, commitment level, slot, and transaction signature alongside the web snapshot. Use the mainnet endpoint https://api.mainnet.solana.com or the devnet endpoint https://api.devnet.solana.com only when this correlation is required.
Anchor documentation describes events as “typed, Borsh-serialized records included in a program’s IDL” and notes that events are useful for indexing and notifications but are not program state. It also warns that RPC providers may truncate program logs; see Anchor events documentation. For balances, permissions, or other correctness-critical facts, derive state from accounts or instruction data instead of assuming a log event is complete.

Keep the page monitor functional when the chain monitor is unavailable. They have different failure domains: a website can be down while RPC is healthy, and an RPC provider can fail while the registration page remains accessible.
Implementation choices and trade-offs

Performance, reliability, and cost controls
- Use connection pooling for repeated HTTP checks, but cap concurrency per host.
- Set a maximum response size before buffering a body.
- Use exponential backoff with jitter for transient failures; do not retry a persistent CAPTCHA indefinitely.
- Cache immutable assets in your browser runner only when doing so does not hide a registration update.
- Pin parser and browser versions so a dependency update does not silently change canonical output.
- Emit metrics for request latency, render time, response size, state counts, selector-record counts, and snapshot-storage growth.
- Separate alert severity: a changed status may be urgent, while a single timeout can wait for confirmation.
- Protect stored cookies, authorization headers, and private snapshots; they may contain personal or registration data.
Troubleshooting
The hash changes every run
Find rotating timestamps, request IDs, analytics attributes, randomized IDs, or changing whitespace in the canonical input. Remove only confirmed noise and keep event facts such as date, venue, capacity, and status.
The page is always unchanged
Check that the selector points to the actual registration region and that the HTTP response is not just a JavaScript shell. Inspect the final URL, status, and extracted record count. Switch to rendering when the useful content appears only after JavaScript executes.
The monitor reports a change during an outage
Your error response is probably being hashed. Classify non-success responses before canonicalization, preserve the last good snapshot, and store the failed response separately for diagnosis.
A redirect appears after a site migration
Record the configured and final URLs and review the destination. Update the canonical URL only after confirming that the destination is the intended registration page.

Rendering times out
Wait for a specific selector, increase the timeout only within a defined upper bound, and capture console or network diagnostics. If a CAPTCHA or login blocks the selector, classify the run as blocked rather than retrying without limit.
A selector suddenly returns zero records
Raise a parse error, retain the raw HTML or DOM, and compare it with the previous successful page. The cause may be a redesign, an authentication redirect, a consent wall, or a genuine removal of registration content.
On-chain logs do not explain the page update
Logs can be truncated and Anchor events are not state. Record the slot and signature you observed, then read the relevant account or instruction data for correctness-critical conclusions.

Can I monitor a page that requires a login?
Only if your acquisition process is authorized to use that account and can securely manage its session. Store credentials and cookies outside snapshots, and classify expired sessions as blocked or unavailable rather than as page changes.
Should I alert on every changed field?
Set field-specific severity. A registration-status or date change may need immediate notification, while a title capitalization change can be logged without paging anyone.
How do I prove what a notification was based on?
Include the immutable snapshot identifier, manifest hash, retrieval time, final URL, parser version, and diff in the alert record. That lets another operator reproduce the comparison without trusting a mutable dashboard.
