React Error Boundaries recover the interface from certain rendering errors; they do not automatically create a durable report for your team. To monitor those failures, report the exception from componentDidCatch(error, info) to an error-monitoring service and preserve React’s component stack. ScreenshotNeo has a different role: it can capture how a fallback or report page looks, but its documented API is not a React exception collector.
What an Error Boundary reports—and what it does not
An Error Boundary catches errors thrown by descendant components during rendering and lets the app show fallback UI. React documents componentDidCatch as the lifecycle method called when a child, including a distant descendant, throws during rendering. The boundary’s recovery behavior and your team’s monitoring are separate responsibilities: rendering a fallback does not, by itself, send a durable event to an error-reporting service. In practice, use static getDerivedStateFromError to update state and render a fallback, then use componentDidCatch(error, info) to forward the exception and diagnostic context. In production, errors caught by a boundary do not bubble to window as they do in development. A global window.onerror handler therefore should not be your only reporting path for boundary-caught failures. React documentation

Report the exception and component stack
The info argument includes componentStack, which identifies the component that threw and its ancestors. Send both the error and this context to your reporting service. Production component names may be minified; React explains that source maps can decode production component stacks, as they can ordinary JavaScript stacks. Ensure your production source maps correspond to the deployed build and are available to the reporting workflow. React does not prescribe a universal alert threshold, retention period, or privacy policy; set those to fit your application and data-handling requirements. React documentation

Reusable class boundary pattern
This minimal example shows the separation between recovery and reporting. Replace reportError with the call required by your chosen monitoring SDK; the function below is deliberately an integration point, not a claim about any vendor’s API.
import React from 'react';
function reportError(error, context) {
// Send the error and context to your error-reporting service.
// Avoid including secrets or unnecessary personal data.
}
export class ErrorBoundary extends React.Component {
state = { hasError: false };
static getDerivedStateFromError() {
return { hasError: true };
}
componentDidCatch(error, info) {
reportError(error, {
componentStack: info.componentStack,
});
}
render() {
if (this.state.hasError) {
return this.props.fallback ?? <h2>Something went wrong.</h2>;
}
return this.props.children;
}
}

A function component does not currently have a direct equivalent lifecycle method for defining a boundary. Keep the boundary in a reusable class component or use a boundary library such as react-error-boundary. Check the library and React version documentation that matches your application before adopting a specific integration. React documentation

Sentry is one example, not a requirement. Its changelog dated June 17, 2024 says React and Next.js SDK 8.6.0 added support for React 19 error hooks and component-stack attachment, with onCaughtError, onUncaughtError, and onRecoverableError shown with Sentry.reactErrorHandler. That is version-specific guidance, not a universal setup recipe; verify compatibility and current configuration for the React and Sentry SDK versions installed in your app. Sentry’s React 19 support changelog · Sentry frontend monitoring
Cover errors that Error Boundaries miss
Error Boundaries are not complete application monitoring. React identifies several cases they do not catch, so add suitable handling for those paths instead of assuming the boundary reports every failure. React documentation

Where ScreenshotNeo fits: inspect the rendered fallback
ScreenshotNeo captures a URL or supplied HTML as PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF and can return page metadata. Its full-page and selector capture options can help inspect a publicly reachable fallback or report page as rendered in a browser viewport. This is a visual check, not exception ingestion: the documented API does not describe receiving or storing the original React error or replacing an error-monitoring SDK. ScreenshotNeo API documentation
| Need | Error-reporting service | ScreenshotNeo |
|---|---|---|
| Core task | Receive and review exception events; a React integration can attach component context. | Render a URL or supplied HTML to an image or PDF and return page information. |
| Use in this workflow | Investigate a boundary-caught error and its component stack. | Visually inspect how a fallback or report page appears. |
| What it does not establish | A screenshot alone does not prove the underlying exception was recorded. | The documented API is not a React Error Boundary monitoring SDK. |
Do not pass secrets or private error content to a capture request just to make an image of a report. ScreenshotNeo documents request authentication, signed webhooks for asynchronous jobs, and rejection of private or local target addresses; treat job delivery as a capture workflow, not as an error-monitoring alert. - The fallback appears, but no event arrives: confirm that
componentDidCatchruns for the failing descendant and that its reporting call reaches the service. Do not rely on productionwindow.onerrorfor errors caught by the boundary. - The report names unreadable components: production names can be minified. Check that source maps are generated for the deployed build and that the monitoring service can use the matching maps.
- Some failures still escape the boundary: check whether the failure is in an event handler, server rendering, the boundary itself, or an asynchronous callback; these require other handling paths.
- The screenshot does not show a private or local page: ScreenshotNeo documents rejection of private/local target addresses. Use a permitted, publicly reachable test page, and do not expose sensitive content to make it capturable.
- An asynchronous capture has not completed: use the API’s documented polling or signed-webhook flow for the capture job; these report capture-job status, not React exception status.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can a React Error Boundary catch an error in an event handler?
No. Event-handler errors need their own handling and reporting path.
Does ScreenshotNeo monitor React exceptions?
No. Its documented API captures rendered pages or supplied HTML; use an error-reporting service for exception events.
