Keep your API contact email current, then compare those announcements with the versions your project actually calls in Google Cloud Console. This catches both announced changes and deadlines that can disable an integration.
What you need to monitor
Google Ads API changes arrive through several official channels because no single page covers every risk. Versioned changes, unversioned feature behavior, product changes, account notices, and your project’s real traffic are different kinds of information. A dependable process watches each one and records an owner for every affected version.

| Source | What it covers | How updates reach you | Shows your project’s usage? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Google Ads API release notes | Changes associated with a particular API version, including release details and definitions. | Review the page; save it in a Google Developer Profile if you want available notifications. | No. It is public documentation. |
| Google Ads API developer blog and product blog | API changes, upcoming deprecations and sunsets, plus Google Ads product changes that may affect integrations. | Follow the blogs through their available feed or email options and review new posts. | No. |
| Feature deprecations and unversioned changes | Behavior or features that do not line up with a version boundary. | Review the page alongside versioned release notes. | No. |
| Deprecation and sunset schedule | Release, deprecation and sunset timing for API versions. | Check the live schedule during each engineering review. | No. |
| Google Cloud Console Metrics | Methods your project has called, with the API version, service and method in the method name. | Inspect the console when reviewing usage. | Yes. This is the project-specific source. |
| API Center in the main manager account | Contact information Google can use for technical issues and Mandatory Service Announcements. | Service-announcement email. | It identifies the account contact, not a complete method inventory. |
Google’s own guidance is direct: “The Google Ads API changes frequently, and you should keep your application up to date with the changes.” Treat that as an operating requirement rather than a once-a-year documentation task.

Deprecation and sunset are different deadlines
A deprecated version is no longer the latest version, but its endpoints continue to function during the remaining support period. A sunset is the end of that period. On the sunset date, requests to that version fail, so an integration that has not migrated can stop retrieving or changing advertising data.

- [Deep Bass with Clear Vocals] High-performance drivers produce punchy bass while keeping vocals clean and detailed for everyday listening.
- Deprecation: continue operating only while you complete migration; new development should target a supported version.
- Sunset: a hard compatibility boundary. Calls to the retired version no longer work.
- Tentative or projected date: a planning value, not a permanent promise. Recheck the official schedule before publishing a date in a runbook or customer notice.
The schedule distinguishes these states. Do not tell stakeholders that “deprecated” means “already broken,” and do not treat a tentative sunset month as an immutable deadline.
Set up the official monitoring channels
1. Save the release-notes page
Bookmark the Google Ads API release notes and review it whenever Google announces a release or update. A Google Developer Profile can save the page for notifications where that feature is available. During review, record the version, release date, changed services, removed or altered fields, and any linked migration instructions that apply to your code.
2. Follow both Google Ads blogs
The API developer blog is the channel to watch for API changes and sunset announcements. The Google Ads product blog covers product changes that can alter the meaning, availability or workflow around API features. A product change may require code or data-model changes even when it is not a new API version, so do not monitor the API blog alone.

Open the feature-deprecations and unversioned changes page as part of the same review. Versioned release notes explain changes attached to a release; this page tracks changes that do not align neatly with a version boundary. Check whether an unversioned behavior affects validation, reporting, policy, authentication or another assumption in your integration.
4. Keep the account contact current
In the main manager account’s API Center, verify that the API contact email belongs to a monitored mailbox or an on-call distribution list. Google may use it for technical issues and Mandatory Service Announcements, including an unversioned change that affects API calls or managed accounts. A mailbox that nobody watches is not an alerting system, so route it to the same incident or platform team that owns the integration. The Google Ads Developer Starter Checklist provides the account-setup context.

See which API versions your project actually uses
Public release notes tell you what changed; Google Cloud Console tells you whether your project is calling an affected version. Check this before assigning a migration, because a repository may contain an unused client, an old service, or several applications sharing one project.
- Sign in to the Google Cloud project used by the integration.
- Open APIs & Services.
- Choose Google Ads API.
- Open the Metrics tab.
- Inspect the Methods table.
Method names include the API version, service and method. Capture the versions observed, the time window represented by the metrics, and the volume or recency that helps you distinguish active traffic from an abandoned deployment. Compare those names with the versions listed in the sunset schedule.

Check each production project and any project used by batch, reporting or test workloads that can reach live accounts.
Read the sunset schedule as live operational data
The schedule provides the dates you need for planning, but entries can be tentative or projected. At the time represented by the published schedule snapshot, the listed examples were:
| Version | Release date | Sunset shown | Qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| v22 | October 15, 2025 | October 2026 | Tentative sunset month on the 2026 schedule. |
| v23 | January 28, 2026 | February 2027 | Schedule entry retrieved for 2026; verify the live page. |
| v25 | July 22, 2026 | August 2027 | Schedule entry retrieved for 2026; verify the live page. |
| v25.1 and v25.2 | Not yet released in the cited snapshot | Not stated | The snapshot showed them as upcoming in August and September 2026. |
| v26 | Not yet released in the cited snapshot | Not stated | The snapshot showed it as upcoming in October 2026. |
These rows are examples of how to read the page, not permanent calendar commitments. Open the current schedule before acting on any date, because Google can revise tentative entries. Google says it aims to sunset a version about a year after release and typically releases a new version every three to four months. Use that cadence for capacity planning, not as a guarantee that every release or sunset will occur on that exact interval.

Understand major and minor releases before planning a migration
Google’s versioning documentation separates major and minor releases:
Major releases
A major release may introduce breaking changes and has a separate endpoint. Migration can require changed field names, removed services, altered request or response types, updated validation and new client-library definitions. Read the migration guide associated with that major version, update the client library, and test the affected calls before switching production traffic.
Minor releases
A minor release is backward-compatible and updates the existing major-version endpoint in place. You may still need to update the client library to use definitions introduced by that minor release. Because the endpoint does not change, an application can continue to run while you schedule the library update, but you should test serialization, reporting fields and feature flags before relying on the new definitions.
Record the distinction in your upgrade ticket. A major-version task is an endpoint and compatibility migration; a minor-version task is usually a dependency and definition update, subject to the specific release notes.
A recurring review workflow that catches deadlines
Run this review on a cadence your release schedule can support; monthly is a practical baseline for an active integration, with an additional review whenever Google publishes a release or sunset announcement.

- Collect announcements. Review the release notes, API developer blog, product blog and unversioned-changes page. Link each finding to the official page and record the publication or update date.
- Refresh the schedule. Copy release, deprecation and sunset dates into your engineering tracker, preserving labels such as tentative or projected. Set an internal migration date earlier than the public sunset.
- Inventory projects. For every production Google Cloud project, inspect APIs & Services > Google Ads API > Metrics > Methods. Add the versions and methods observed to the tracker.
- Map ownership. Assign each affected version to a team and named technical owner. Include batch jobs, reporting services, web applications and partner-facing components, not only the main repository.
- Assess the change. Classify it as a documentation-only update, client-library update, minor-version adoption or major-version migration. Identify authentication, reporting, mutate and error-handling paths that need tests.
- Build and test. Read the relevant migration guide, update dependencies in a branch, run unit and integration tests against a non-production account where possible, and compare key responses and reports with the current version.
- Release in stages. Deploy to a canary or limited account set, watch request errors and business metrics, then expand rollout. Keep a rollback plan that does not depend on the version you are retiring.
- Close the loop. After rollout, recheck Cloud Console methods to confirm traffic moved to the intended version and remove the old version from scheduled jobs, containers and secrets.
This workflow is a review and ownership process, not an automated Google alerting service. Notifications, blog feeds and email reduce the chance of missing an announcement, but only a project-specific usage check can show whether your systems are exposed.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Plan the migration from a deadline backward
Start with the sunset date shown on the current schedule, then reserve time for discovery, implementation, verification and staged rollout. A useful internal plan contains these checkpoints:
- Discovery complete: every project, method and deployment using the retiring version is known.
- Compatibility review complete: release notes and the major-version migration guide have been read, and affected API surfaces are listed.
- Code complete: the new client library or endpoint is implemented behind a controlled release.
- Production validation complete: representative searches, reporting queries, mutations, retries and error handling pass in a safe environment.
- Cutover complete: production traffic uses the supported version with monitoring and rollback instructions.
- Retirement verified: Cloud Console no longer shows meaningful calls to the old version, and old scheduled workers are disabled.
Do not schedule cutover on the sunset day. Tentative dates can move, but a sunset can also leave no working fallback once it occurs. An internal buffer gives you time to resolve quota, permissions, generated-code or customer-account issues discovered during testing.
Common monitoring failures and fixes
Watching only the release notes
Symptom: a product behavior or unversioned change arrives without a versioned release entry. Fix: include the product blog and the feature-deprecations page in the same review.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsAssuming “deprecated” means “already unavailable”
Symptom: a team stops a working integration immediately or, in the opposite direction, ignores a version until requests fail. Fix: record deprecation and sunset as separate states and use the schedule’s sunset date for the hard-stop risk.
Best Value
Trusting source code instead of traffic
Symptom: a repository search says the application was upgraded, but an old worker still calls the retired endpoint. Fix: inspect Methods in Cloud Console for every project and deployment path.
Ignoring client-library requirements
Symptom: the endpoint is correct, but new fields or services are unavailable in code. Fix: check whether the release requires a client-library update; minor releases can need one even though they are backward-compatible.
Treating a tentative date as fixed
Symptom: a ticket, customer notice or contract contains an outdated month. Fix: label the date as tentative or projected and recheck the official schedule immediately before publication and before cutover.
Letting notices reach an unattended mailbox
Symptom: a Mandatory Service Announcement arrives after the owning team has learned about the issue elsewhere. Fix: keep the main manager account’s API contact current and route mail to a monitored team address.
What a useful tracking record contains
Keep one row per project and affected version in your engineering system. At minimum, record:
- Google Cloud project ID and production environment.
- API version, service and representative methods observed in Metrics.
- Release, deprecation and sunset dates, with “tentative” or “projected” labels copied from the schedule.
- Links to the relevant release note, migration guide and unversioned-change entry.
- Technical owner, reviewer, escalation contact and customer impact.
- Client-library version, code branch, test status, rollout stage and rollback method.
- Date of the last Cloud Console verification and the next scheduled review.
When a date changes, update the record rather than silently replacing the old value. The history explains why a migration moved and gives support staff a precise answer when they ask which deadline was used.
Use the official pages as the authority
For a specific version or deadline, cite the current sunset schedule and the matching release note. For compatibility behavior, use the versioning documentation. For unversioned behavior, use the deprecations page. This keeps internal tickets and customer communication tied to the pages Google updates, instead of to a copied calendar that can become stale.
