Always verify an alert against the dated notice on the official site before paying, submitting documents or travelling.
Find the official page that publishes notices
Do not rely only on an institution’s homepage. Admission information may be on a dedicated admissions portal, a programme-specific page or a category-based notice archive. Find the institution’s official website independently, navigate to Admissions, and identify the page or archive for the course and academic session you care about. Bookmark both the admissions landing page and the relevant notice list.

Institutions label these lists differently. Rajiv Gandhi University’s portal links an archive of downloadable admission notifications and circulars, while Jawaharlal Nehru University has an admissions notice block covering items such as schedules, verification and vacant seats. Gauhati University presents dated notices in a category view. Those are examples of different layouts, not a guarantee that every institution organizes notices the same way. Rajiv Gandhi University admission notifications, JNU admissions, Gauhati University admissions.

Use page-change monitoring when search alerts are not enough
A webpage-change monitor watches a selected page and can notify you when it detects a change. This is a different method from search alerts, and may help with a notice page whose updates do not appear in search results. Its usefulness depends on the provider, check frequency and configuration. No particular service’s reliability on Indian college websites is established here, so treat this as a supplement rather than an official source.
Choose the exact official notice page, configure a reasonable check interval and notification channel if the service offers them, then test that you receive notifications. Specific setup steps and available options vary by provider. A 2019 survey describes webpage change-detection and notification systems generally, but does not establish the current performance of a named product: survey of webpage change-detection and notification systems.
Choose the right monitoring layer
| Method | What it can do | Limitation | Best role |
|---|---|---|---|
| Official notice page or archive | Shows notices and circulars published by the institution. | You must visit it unless the institution offers its own notification channel. | Source of record. |
| Google Alerts | Finds new search results matching your query. | A page update may not promptly create a matching result; it is not a complete page-change guarantee. | Free discovery layer. |
| Webpage-change monitor | Can watch a selected page for changes, depending on the service and configuration. | Coverage, frequency and accuracy vary; no specific service is assessed here. | Supplement for pages search misses. |
| Third-party admission aggregator | May collect notices from multiple institutions. | Coverage and verification claims need independent checking. | Optional discovery layer; confirm on the official site. |
Some institutions may publicize admissions through websites, email, SMS or other available channels. A West Bengal higher-education compendium describes those as possible channels, but it is historical context, not a current nationwide requirement: West Bengal higher-education admissions compendium.
Verify every alert before acting
-
Open the notice from the institution’s official domain, rather than relying on a forwarded message, social post or alert excerpt.

This check matters because fake admission communications have circulated. In a 2022 warning, the University of Delhi cautioned applicants about fake admission emails and notifications and directed them to official university and NTA information. The warning concerned that admission cycle; use its core safety lesson by confirming current details on the relevant official institution and NTA sites. Use separate alerts for different programmes or sessions when combining them would make results ambiguous.
-
Check the official archive at important admission milestones and whenever an alert arrives. The right interval depends on the institution’s schedule and any monitor you use; there is no universal check frequency established here.

For developers who want a screenshot of a notice page, ScreenshotNeo offers a one-request website screenshot API. Its cleanup options accept cookie or consent banners and remove more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups and chat widgets before capture; each step can be turned off. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads and cache hits are not billed, and responses say which verdict applied. Its MCP server provides screenshot and page-information tools for AI agents.
