Amazon’s built-in price history can show whether a product’s price has risen or fallen, but its consumer description does not promise to identify which seller offered each historical price. Keep the product page (and ASIN) constant, check the current seller, condition, shipping and delivery terms, and treat the chart as price context—not a seller-by-seller record. Sellers and developers can use Amazon’s Selling Partner API notifications for offer-price changes and Featured Offer eligibility, which answer different questions.
Why a price change may also be a seller change
The product detail page identifies the product, while its prominent purchase area presents one or more offers. Amazon calls these Featured Offers; the familiar “Buy Box” is commonly used for that prominent offer display. The product can remain the same while the displayed offer changes. Sellers, item condition, price, shipping cost and delivery promise may differ between offers. Amazon’s seller guidance describes the Featured Offer display and factors that can affect it.

For a fair comparison, keep the ASIN/product page constant and compare the complete offer, not just the headline price. A lower item price may be offset by shipping, and a different condition or delivery date may make two offers unsuitable to compare directly.
What Amazon’s price history can—and cannot—tell shoppers
Amazon says customers can view 30-, 90- and 365-day price history, with availability varying by country and rollout. The feature is available in the U.S., UK, Canada and India; 365-day insights are rolling out in the U.S., UK and India. Amazon’s consumer-facing description does not say that the chart records seller identity at each historical point. A historical price therefore should not be attributed to a particular seller unless the interface explicitly shows that information. Amazon’s price-history announcement also says that customers can access history through Alexa for Shopping on product pages and ask questions about recent sales and price history.

Amazon reported that more than 50 million customers had checked price history since its launch in 2024, and that the average customer checks it three times a month. Those are figures reported by Amazon, not independent measurements.
How to check a product when its seller changes
- Open the same product detail page. Confirm that you are looking at the same item/ASIN, rather than a similar product or a variation with different specifications.
- Open the price-history link near the current price, if available. Review the available 30-, 90- or 365-day view. The longer window can give broader price context, but availability depends on the customer, product and market.
- Check the current offer details separately. Read the seller name, item condition, shipping charge and delivery promise shown with the current Featured Offer. Do not assume the history chart identifies the seller associated with an earlier price.
- Compare like with like. Consider the total price and offer terms, not only the item-price number. If an older historical point lacks a seller label or offer details, you cannot establish from that chart alone whether it came from the current seller or an earlier one.
- Use a purpose-built tracker only if it documents the needed seller history. Before relying on third-party alerts, verify that the service currently tracks seller identity or Featured Offer seller changes for the relevant marketplace and product. A price-tracker label alone does not establish those capabilities.
When seller-level history is essential
Amazon’s consumer price-history feature is useful for price context, but its published description does not establish a seller-by-seller timeline or alerts for a Featured Offer seller change. The accessible Keepa page identifies Keepa as an Amazon price tracker; that page does not, by itself, establish its current seller-history fields or alert behavior. Check the tracker’s current documentation and test a product in your marketplace before making a purchase decision based on seller attribution.

Amazon also lists Featured Offer price and average selling price among pricing elements available through its APIs and notifications. Its Competitive Price Threshold is based on external retailers, not competing Amazon sellers. Choose the event based on the question you need answered: use ANY_OFFER_CHANGED to follow offer-price movement among top offers, and PRICING_HEALTH to monitor your own offer’s eligibility. Do not interpret an eligibility alert as proof of which seller currently holds the display.
