A screenshot helps people see what changed, but it does not by itself explain the technical cause.
Choose what you want to monitor
“Screenshot monitoring” can describe several different workflows. Pick the trigger first; a capture tool alone does not necessarily monitor a site or decide when to send an alert.

| Workflow | What it does | Use it when | Check before choosing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Visual-change monitoring | Runs recurring checks and compares page appearance or content. SiteGauge describes before-and-after screenshots, Slack, email, and webhook alerts, plus filtering on its product page. | You want to know when a page changes, whether or not a deployment initiated the change. | What is checked, check frequency, comparison behavior, filtering, history, Slack delivery, and current plan limits. See SiteGauge for its current offer details. |
| Automated browser screenshot testing | Runs screenshot tests in browser or device test environments. TestMu AI’s Slack Marketplace listing describes launching tests from Slack and sharing issues with screenshots and test information. TestingBot describes Slack alerts for passing or failing tests, with screenshot and platform metadata. | You need to validate appearance or behavior in a test workflow, often around development or releases. | Browser and device coverage, test execution workflow, result metadata, Slack commands or notifications, and how to investigate failures. See the TestMu AI Slack Marketplace listing and TestingBot. |
| Screenshot capture and sharing | Creates an image of a page and can deliver or share it. The ScreenshotsCloud listing describes configurable viewport and full-page capture; ScreenshotCenter describes posting completed captures into Slack. | You need an image to share, while another system supplies the monitoring trigger. | Viewport controls, full-page support, delivery to a channel, access to the full-resolution image, and whether a separate monitor is needed. See ScreenshotsCloud’s Slack Marketplace listing and ScreenshotCenter. |
| Webhook alerting | Sends alerts from a monitoring service to Slack using a webhook. Super Monitoring documents this route. | Your monitoring service supports a webhook but does not offer a suitable Slack app, or your team prefers an endpoint-based connection. | Message format, credential handling, channel selection, test delivery, and vendor support. Follow the service’s current instructions; see Super Monitoring’s Slack integration guidance. |
Slack describes connecting monitoring tools so the right people receive time-sensitive alerts. Its help documentation puts it this way: “Add monitoring tools to Slack to make sure the right people are aware of time-sensitive alerts and notifications.” Read Slack’s guidance on adding apps to a workspace. Slack Marketplace listings describe integrations, but Slack says its review is not an endorsement or certification; a listing is not proof that a product fits your security or operational requirements. For custom integrations, Slack also documents its API.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesSet up screenshot alerts in Slack
- Define the alert signal. Decide whether you need availability or failure notices, recurring detection of visual or content changes, or automated browser screenshot tests. These are different jobs; confirm the service actually supports your chosen trigger.
- Choose a matching service. Check that its current plan includes the required check type, screenshot evidence, monitoring frequency, and Slack delivery method. Vendor features and plan limits can change, so confirm them on the provider’s current page or setup guide.
- Connect the service to Slack. If the provider has a Slack app, install and configure it using the provider’s current directions and the workspace’s app-approval process. If it supports webhooks instead, create and configure the endpoint as instructed by the provider. Exact settings differ by service.
- Choose a channel. Route notifications to a channel the responsible team monitors, such as one dedicated to the site, service, or incident workflow. The channel name and membership are your team’s choice; ensure the people expected to respond can see it.
- Make the notification useful. When the product supports it, include the affected URL, trigger, time, screenshot or comparison, and a link to the full result. Some vendor descriptions establish that images or test metadata can accompany alerts, but the exact message contents depend on the service.
- Review real alerts and tune noise. Check whether notifications reflect meaningful changes or false positives. If the service offers controls, adjust thresholds, monitored region, or severity filters to fit the page and team. SiteGauge describes filtering alerts and avoiding routine changes; that capability should not be assumed for other tools.
What to put in a screenshot alert
A screenshot provides visual context for triage: it can show what a visitor or test browser saw at the time of a check. Prefer an alert that pairs that evidence with enough information to locate and investigate the event.

- A link to the detailed result or test run, when the service supplies one.
- For automated tests, relevant browser, device, or platform metadata when available.
A picture alone does not establish whether a change was intentional, identify a failing request, or diagnose a root cause. Use the linked result, logs, and the relevant monitoring or test output to investigate.

Troubleshooting Slack screenshot alerts
No alert arrives in Slack
- Check whether the monitor or test actually ran and whether its trigger condition was met.
- Confirm the Slack app or webhook is still connected, points to the intended workspace and channel, and has the permissions required by the provider’s current setup instructions.
- Send a test notification if the provider offers one, then inspect its run history or delivery status for errors.
Alerts arrive but have no screenshot
- Confirm the selected integration supports screenshot attachments or comparison images; a Slack notification does not guarantee image delivery.
- For capture-and-share tools, check whether the capture completed and whether the integration posts the finished image or only a link.
- Open the full result link where available. A screenshot may be stored separately from the alert text.
Too many alerts or misleading changes
- Check whether the service supports filtering by severity, excluding routine changes, or adjusting comparison sensitivity.
- If supported, verify the monitored page region and threshold; dynamic ads, timestamps, or rotating content can create changes that are not incidents.
- Review several actual alerts before broadening or tightening filters, so the adjustment does not hide meaningful changes.
The screenshot shows a problem but not its cause
Use the monitor’s detailed result, browser-test metadata, and any available logs or failure information. The screenshot is evidence of rendered appearance, not a complete diagnostic trace.
Cost, reliability, and operational choices
Compare providers on the work they actually perform: monitoring frequency, test or browser coverage, screenshot comparison, Slack delivery, result history, filtering, and the current price and plan limits. SiteGauge’s displayed offers can change, so verify the live page rather than relying on an old quoted price. No independent comparative test is established here, so these products should not be treated as interchangeable winners.

For reliability, verify the service’s current integration instructions, the permissions requested in your Slack workspace, and whether you can inspect alert delivery and prior results. Decide who owns the channel and who investigates notifications. If screenshot content may expose private or customer data, evaluate the provider’s data handling and workspace policies before enabling capture; the integrations described here do not establish suitability for every security requirement.

Can I get a Slack alert with a screenshot for every kind of website monitor?
No. Screenshot inclusion depends on the monitoring provider and its Slack integration; confirm that exact capability before selecting it.

Is a screenshot API enough to monitor a site continuously?
Not by itself. A screenshot API captures a page when called; a separate monitor or automation must decide when to call it and when to notify Slack.
Does a Slack Marketplace listing mean Slack endorses the app?
No. Slack says Marketplace review does not constitute endorsement or certification.
