How to Monitor a Website Behind a Login with Fluxguard

Fluxguard can monitor authorized password-protected pages by running login-form actions first and then visiting the protected page in the same session. Configure the login controls with stable selectors, preserve the session state across pages, and verify a capture shows the logged-in content before relying on change alerts. Browser basic authentication uses a separate setting.

Before you start

Use Fluxguard only on websites you own or have permission to access. Its tutorial says: “you may only use our product to log in to your own sites or sites where you have permission.” The documented workflow covers form-based logins and browser basic authentication; it does not promise compatibility with every MFA challenge, CAPTCHA, identity-provider redirect, or changing authentication flow. Test your authorized target.

You will need the login-page URL, the relevant form controls, and credentials authorized for the account. Fluxguard’s tutorial uses CSS selectors to identify the username field, password field, and submit control. The interface and available settings may change; use Fluxguard’s password-protected pages tutorial as the current product reference.

Configure a form login and monitor the protected page

  1. Add the login page and capture its initial state

Create or open a Fluxguard session and add the page where the login form appears. Run an initial crawl. This captures the pre-login page, which can help you inspect its structure and identify the controls.

  2. Add actions for the login controls

In the page view, add actions for the username field, password field, and submit control. Identify each with a CSS selector and provide the corresponding username and password values. Fluxguard documents its Visual Selector as one way to find elements; you can also inspect the page in Chrome or another modern browser and copy a selector.

Keep selectors as short and specific as the page allows. A long selector tied to many layers of page structure is more likely to stop matching after a layout change. Confirm that each selector uniquely identifies the intended control.

  3. Allow the page to settle, then save

Increase the post-submit wait if the form or destination loads slowly. Fluxguard’s tutorial gives 6,000 milliseconds as an example, not a universal recommended value. Choose a wait that lets the authenticated page finish loading, then save the actions and return to the session.

  4. Place protected pages after the login step

Fluxguard runs session pages in sequence and documents that cookies and local storage are preserved across pages. Add the dashboard or other authorized target after the login page so it can use the session state created by the login. The vendor describes this behavior as preserving “cookies, local storage, and more” for pages appended after login.

If you want the session to capture both the login page and the post-login view, Fluxguard’s tutorial suggests adding the login page twice: first for the login actions, then again after the authenticated state has been established.

  5. Run a verification crawl

Inspect the resulting capture and open its screenshot. Confirm that it shows authenticated content rather than the login form, an error, or a redirect. A configured action or a crawl that completes is not by itself proof that login succeeded.

After verification, use capture history and comparison views to review subsequent changes. Fluxguard’s tutorials index and console guide describe text, rendered HTML, screenshot or pixel, and network comparison information.

Configure browser basic authentication separately

A browser-level basic-auth prompt is not an HTML login form. For basic authentication, open Session Settings, choose the Crawl tab, and use the authentication fields described in Fluxguard’s tutorial. If the site instead displays ordinary username and password fields in a page, configure page actions and selectors as described above.

Check that the monitor is dependable

  • Confirm the captured state: Open the screenshot after a verification crawl and check that the protected content is visible.
  • Check selector stability: If a login action stops working, inspect the current page and confirm each selector still targets the intended control.
  • Check page order and session state: The login step must precede the protected page in the same session for the documented cookie and local-storage continuity to apply.
  • Check load timing: If the capture happens before the destination is ready, adjust the post-submit wait and run another verification crawl.
  • Validate authentication challenges: The documented workflow does not establish that every MFA method, CAPTCHA, SSO redirect, or site-specific policy is supported. Do not assume success without checking the captured page.

Common problems and fixes

What you see Likely cause What to try
The capture still shows the login page A field or submit selector did not match, credentials were not accepted, or the login flow needs a step the documented form actions do not cover. Inspect the current page, confirm selectors uniquely identify the controls, verify the authorized credentials, then run another crawl and inspect its screenshot.
The login works but the protected page is logged out The target may not follow the login page in the same session, or session state may not be carrying over as expected. Check the session page sequence and ensure the protected page is appended after the login step. Verify again with a fresh crawl.
The screenshot is captured before content appears The form submission or destination takes longer than the configured wait. Increase the post-submit wait and verify the result. Fluxguard’s 6,000 ms example is not a one-size-fits-all setting.
A selector stops working after a site redesign The selector depended on page nesting or markup that changed. Reinspect the controls and replace the selector with a shorter, stable selector that still matches only the intended element.
A browser authentication prompt remains Basic authentication may have been configured as if it were an ordinary HTML form, or vice versa. For a browser-level basic-auth prompt, use the authentication fields under Session Settings > Crawl. For a regular form, use page actions.
An MFA, CAPTCHA, or SSO step blocks the crawl The site requires an authentication step whose compatibility is not established by Fluxguard’s cited tutorial. Check the site’s permitted monitoring approach and test the actual flow. Do not treat the documented form-login pattern as a guarantee of support for that challenge.

Plan and pricing note

Fluxguard’s pricing page lists “Form Submission Tracking” for monitoring behind logins and gated content in its Standard plan feature list. The page observed on October 3, 2026, states that prices are in US dollars and that paid plans begin with a seven-day free trial. These are page statements on that date, not a durable price quote; confirm the current Fluxguard pricing page before choosing a plan.

ScreenshotNeo is a screenshot API and MCP server for developers. A screenshot call can capture a page as an image or PDF, but it is not a substitute for Fluxguard’s authenticated monitoring workflow: do not send private credentials or assume a login-protected target can be captured without configuring an authorized session.

For a publicly accessible page, this cURL request returns a WebP screenshot. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for options.

  • Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed; responses identify the page verdict and billing status in headers.
