Use a website change monitor on the university’s official admissions page, ideally focused on its notices or announcements area. Set checks around the dates and updates that matter, then verify every alert on the live official page and in the linked notice or PDF. An alert is a prompt to check—not an official admission communication or proof that a deadline has changed.
What to monitor on an admissions website
Admission updates can continue well after registration opens. For example, Banaras Hindu University’s official admissions portal has listed dated round schedules, allotment and fee-payment updates, vacant-seat information, correction windows, registration guides, reporting instructions and bulletins. The portal is an example, not a complete picture of every Indian university’s process: BHU admissions portal.

- Application correction windows

- Seat allotments, vacant seats and fee-payment instructions
- Reporting dates, document requirements and bulletins
Use terms such as “registration,” “last date,” “extension,” “correction,” “schedule,” “allotment,” “vacant seats,” “reporting,” plus the programme name and admission year as alert criteria where available. Start broadly enough to catch new notice titles; narrow the criteria only if routine banners, counters or layout changes create too many alerts.
Set up a monitor for the right page and region
- Find the official admissions URL. Use the university’s own site or candidate portal, not a search result or third-party summary. If undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral or professional admissions have separate pages, monitor each relevant page; do not assume the main university homepage covers them all.
- Save a baseline and select the notices area. A monitor can compare a whole page or, where supported, a selected region. Focusing on the announcements list can reduce noise from unrelated changes. Visualping documents whole-page and specific-element monitoring; Distill’s Chrome extension guide describes selecting part of a page. These are vendor-described features, not independent tests of performance on Indian university sites: Visualping setup guide; Distill partial-page guide.
- Choose change criteria. If the service supports text or keyword criteria, use the terms that identify notices you need. A visual comparison can catch a changed layout or newly added notice, while text criteria may help distinguish an important update from an unrelated visual change. Available detection modes vary by service.
- Set a check frequency that matches the calendar. Check more often as a registration deadline or counselling round approaches, and less often outside active periods. Checks are scheduled, not guaranteed instant detection; the available interval can depend on the service and plan. Visualping’s guide describes frequency and alert criteria: Visualping setup guide.
- Test the monitor and delivery. Confirm that the page loads, the selected region contains the notice list, and an alert reaches the intended email or other channel. If a known update is available, compare the monitor’s result with it. Popups, rotating banners, dynamic content or a separate admissions subdomain may require changing the selection or monitoring another URL.
- Recheck coverage over time. Pages can move, add a separate portal or shift their notices area. Review the monitored URL and selection periodically, and also use any official candidate-portal, email or SMS notifications the university provides.
Choose between a cloud monitor and a browser extension
Two documented examples illustrate different approaches. Their capabilities below are taken from their own help pages, not independent reliability testing; confirm current intervals, quotas, notification channels, document support and pricing before relying on a specific configuration.
#1 Best Overall
- Used Book in Good Condition
| Option | Documented capabilities | Practical consideration |
|---|---|---|
| Visualping | Whole-page or specific-element monitoring; visual, text and code change detection; scheduled checks; email alerts by default; before-and-after comparisons. Its documentation says cloud monitors continue when your computer is off. | Vendor documentation describes these functions, but does not establish that it will work on every university page or login-protected portal. Setup guide; Cloud and local monitors. |
| Distill Chrome extension | Its guide describes selecting part of a page, choosing the device used for checks and setting a schedule. Alert methods depend on subscription plan. | Verify current plan limits and whether your chosen checks run with the browser closed before depending on them. Partial-page guide. |
For either approach, check whether the page needs a login or interaction, whether linked PDFs matter, how often checks can run, what notification channels are available, whether checks continue when your computer is off, and how the service handles page data. The cited setup material does not establish support for every dynamic page, interaction or admissions document.
Verify an alert before acting
- Open the university’s live admissions page directly and locate the changed notice.
- Open the linked notice or PDF. Check its date, programme, admission year, round and deadline against the alert.
- Follow the instructions on the official page or document. Do not rely on a monitor screenshot as a substitute for the source notice.
A monitor checks on a schedule, so a page may change between checks; services can also miss or misread content. Treat an alert as a lead to verify, not confirmation that a notice is current, authoritative or complete.

What visual monitoring cannot tell you
A visual alert can help reveal that something visible changed, but it cannot establish whether the information is authoritative, test the full accessibility experience, or guarantee that all updates were captured. UGC says an effective accessibility mechanism should support persons with disabilities from admission through course completion; that statement is not proof of any particular university portal’s compliance. See UGC accessibility page and UGC screen-reader page.
IIT Jodhpur’s web policy, for example, discusses review dates, details for downloadable materials, browser testing, regional-language fonts and consistent identity in the context of its alignment with GIGW 3.0. It is an institutional example, not evidence that every university applies the same practices: IIT Jodhpur web policy.

Troubleshoot missed or noisy alerts
- The monitor reports no change, but a notice appeared: Check that the URL is the relevant admissions subpage and that the selected region includes the notice list. Revisit the page after it loads fully; dynamic content or a changed page structure may require selecting the region again.
- Too many alerts arrive: Exclude unrelated page areas if possible, or add criteria for programme, year and notice terms. Avoid narrowing so much that a differently worded deadline or schedule update is missed.
- The page shows a banner or popup instead of notices: Check whether it obscures the selected area or rotates content. Adjust the monitored region or use the direct admissions-page URL if the university provides one.
- The monitor cannot access the page: Confirm the URL in a normal browser and determine whether access requires a login, a separate portal or user interaction. The cited vendor guides do not establish that either service can monitor every such page; use the university’s official candidate communications as well.
- An alert conflicts with another page or document: Compare the live page and linked source notice, including publication date and programme. If the conflict remains, seek clarification through the university’s official admissions contact rather than guessing which deadline applies.
Or skip the browser setup
ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. A GET request can return a screenshot or PDF; for an admissions page, its clean-shot options can accept cookie or consent banners and remove known consent platforms, newsletter popups and chat widgets before capture. Those cleanup steps can be turned off. Its response identifies page verdict and billing status; bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads and cache hits are not billed. ScreenshotNeo can provide scheduled captures only when you build or use a separate monitoring workflow—the screenshot request itself is not a change-alert service.
For a direct capture, create an API key and run this cURL command (replace the example URL with the official admissions page):

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options. An MCP server is also available for AI agents using Claude, Cursor or another MCP client, with the tools take_screenshot, get_page_info and capture_pdf. One thousand screenshots per month are free without a card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000. Sign up for 1,000 free screenshots a month, with no card required.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can a screenshot monitor tell me whether a university notice is official?
No. Confirm it on the university’s live admissions page and open the linked notice or PDF; the monitor only flags a possible change.
Will an alert arrive as soon as an admissions page changes?
Not necessarily. The monitor checks on its configured schedule, and timing depends on its settings and plan.
