To monitor one part of a page in ChangeTower, create a single-page monitor, choose Specific Elements, select the area in the page preview, save the selection, configure the monitor, and create it. If the changing content is noise rather than the thing you want to track, ChangeTower also offers a separate option to ignore selected elements.

Set up a specific-elements monitor

  1. In ChangeTower’s left navigation, choose New Monitor and select single-page monitoring.
  2. Enter the exact URL of the page you want to watch.
  3. Choose Specific Elements rather than full-page monitoring.
  4. In the screenshot preview, click the area or elements you want to track. Choose Save Selection when finished. Selected areas are highlighted; choose Edit if you need to revise the selection or add areas.
  5. Set any applicable monitoring options, such as the change threshold, manual user-action handling, or lazy-loading support.
  6. Under Details, enter a recognizable monitor name, add tags if useful, configure email alerts and monitoring frequency, and choose the save behavior.
  7. Click Create. ChangeTower uses the starting snapshot as the baseline for later checks and alerts you when it detects a change.

Choose a region with a clear purpose—for example, a pricing table, product specification, policy clause, compliance disclosure, job listing, or stock/availability display. These are examples of possible uses, not a promise that every page will render or expose its sections identically in the preview.

Choose between tracking and ignoring elements

ChangeTower describes two selective approaches: track chosen areas with Specific Elements, or ignore frequently changing areas while monitoring the rest of the page. Its feature page says these are separate modes, so treat ignoring as an alternative monitor setup rather than assuming you can combine tracked and ignored regions in one monitor.

Approach What it is for Examples
Specific Elements Focus checks on the areas you select. A price table, product specifications, or a legal clause.
Ignore elements Exclude noisy areas that would otherwise distract from changes elsewhere on the page. Consent modals, chat widgets, clocks or weather widgets, rotating promotions, ad slots, social feeds, or view counts.

ChangeTower’s FAQ says section monitoring starts on Essential and ignoring specific elements is available on Business. Plan features can change; confirm the current entitlement in your ChangeTower account or on its pricing page before relying on either option.

What to check if selection or alerts do not work as expected

  • The wrong content is being tracked: Return to the monitor’s selection and use Edit to adjust the highlighted areas. Confirm that you selected the visible region you intend to compare.
  • A changing banner or widget creates unwanted changes: Consider a separate monitor using the ignore-elements approach, rather than assuming tracked and ignored areas can be combined.
  • Content appears only after interaction or scrolling: Review the available manual user-action and lazy-loading options during setup. Their availability does not guarantee identical results on every dynamic site.
  • You cannot find the control described in an older guide: Current setup guidance uses Specific Elements and visual selection in the screenshot preview. Older help material may use labels such as “Content Monitor” and a changed-word threshold; do not treat those labels as the current selection workflow.
  • You need a text-specific or HTML-based rule: Custom HTML criteria and text-block workarounds are distinct from selecting a visible section in the preview. Check the relevant ChangeTower instructions for that exact need rather than substituting them for this workflow.
  • A change is not detected as you expected: Review the selected region and any configured threshold or page-loading options. ChangeTower documents these controls, but their behavior on an arbitrary page is not guaranteed.

If your goal is to capture a page rather than maintain a ChangeTower change monitor, ScreenshotNeo offers a website screenshot API and MCP server. Its API can return a screenshot or PDF from one GET request. For example, this cURL request saves a WebP capture:

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp

See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for the request options. Cookie and consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets can be removed before capture; bot checks, blank pages, and failed loads are not billed. Its MCP server lets AI agents take screenshots, and the Free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000. Sign up for ScreenshotNeo’s free plan.
