Its product announcement dated September 10, 2020 describes custom browser actions before a check, including logging in and navigating to another page. The practical test is the monitor preview. If it shows the sign-in page, an error, or anything other than the intended authenticated content, the monitor has not been validated as a check of that private page.

- Identify the page to check. Note the exact URL of the private page. If sign-in must be followed by navigation, include the final destination in the sequence you need the browser to reach.
- Create a monitor and choose its type. Hexowatch’s getting-started guide and HTML monitoring guide describe entering a URL and previewing it. The custom-actions announcement describes actions before capture. Exact current menu labels may differ from older documentation.
- Configure the login and navigation actions. Add the actions needed to reach the protected content. Hexowatch’s 2020 announcement specifically describes logging in to password-protected areas and navigating to different pages. The sources do not establish universal support for MFA, CAPTCHA, single sign-on, or dynamically changing login flows, so test your particular sequence rather than assuming it will work.
- Preview the result. Confirm the preview reaches the intended page and that the relevant content is visible. If it remains at the login screen or fails, adjust the sequence or investigate the failure before relying on the monitor.
- Select the change to detect. Choose the monitoring method that matches the signal you care about; options documented by Hexowatch include HTML, element, content, visual, and keyword monitoring.
- Set the check frequency and notifications. Choose how often Hexowatch should check and which notification channels to use, then start the monitor. The HTML monitoring guide documents both preferences.
- Recheck after site changes. If the site changes its login flow or page layout, preview the monitor again to make sure its actions still reach the expected state.

Common problems and what to check
- The preview shows the sign-in page. The configured actions may not have completed or may not have reached the private destination. Review the login and navigation sequence, then preview again.
- The preview errors or does not load the target. Do not treat the monitor as validated. Check that the target URL and action sequence are appropriate, then test the preview again.
- The preview reaches the page, but the change is missed. Confirm the selected monitor matches the relevant signal—for example, an element for one field or visual monitoring for appearance—and that the selected content is present in the preview.
- The monitor stops reaching the content later. A changed login flow or page layout can affect pre-capture actions. Revisit the monitor and validate the preview after such changes.
- The sign-in requires MFA, CAPTCHA, or SSO. The cited Hexowatch material does not establish compatibility for every such flow. Test the actual account and flow; do not assume support from the general custom-actions description.
Credentials, authorization, and monitoring scope
Only configure access for accounts and sites you are authorized to use and monitor. Hexowatch’s Terms of Service make the account holder responsible for credential confidentiality and activity under the account, and prohibit unauthorized access to protected computers. Check the website’s terms and your organization’s policies before monitoring a third-party account or service.
