To monitor a 24/7 YouTube playlist stream away from home, open the stream in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room on a computer or check its available metrics in the YouTube Studio app. Then verify playback from a viewer’s perspective when possible. These checks help you spot trouble, but YouTube’s documentation reviewed here does not confirm automatic creator alerts when a stream goes unhealthy or offline.
Check stream health in YouTube Live Control Room
On a computer, open YouTube Studio, select the live stream, and use Live Control Room to check its status and analytics while it is running. YouTube says the dashboard can show stream-health information and error messages with instructions, alongside real-time metrics such as concurrent viewers, duration, chat rate, views, and average view duration. The exact metrics available can vary by interface.

If you see an error, read the message in the dashboard and follow its suggested troubleshooting steps. A healthy-looking metric panel is useful, but it does not by itself confirm that every viewer can play the stream.
Check the stream from your phone
The YouTube Studio app provides access to documented mobile stream metrics, so it can be a practical way to check while you are away from your computer. Open the app, sign in to the Google account for the channel that is streaming, and select the live video or its analytics/status view. You need an existing compatible phone; YouTube does not identify a particular model as required.

Metric presentation is platform-specific. Do not assume that every figure or health detail visible in Live Control Room on a computer appears in the app in the same way. If the stream is missing, first check that you are signed in to the right channel and that you have selected the current live broadcast rather than an older video.
Confirm viewers can actually watch
When practical, open the channel or stream’s watch page as a viewer, including on a mobile device. YouTube’s live-streaming tips recommend checking event accessibility through channel and watch pages and on mobile, as well as continuously monitoring audio and video quality. This viewer-side check can reveal playback or sound problems that a quick glance at analytics may not make obvious.

- Confirm that the live watch page loads and is accessible to the intended audience.
- Listen for audio and look for frozen, missing, or visibly degraded video.
- Check that the playlist has advanced or looped as expected, rather than repeating an unintended section or going silent.
Can YouTube notify you if the stream goes offline?
YouTube’s documented “Notify me” option is for viewers who want a reminder about a scheduled stream. It is not evidence of a creator alarm when an already-running stream fails. The official pages reviewed do not establish whether a creator can configure automatic push or email alerts for degraded stream health or a stopped ingest.
Until you have confirmed an alert feature in your own current YouTube interface, plan to check Live Control Room or the Studio app actively rather than relying on a failure notification. A scheduled-stream reminder for your audience does not monitor your running broadcast.

Prepare a backup encoder if your setup uses one
If your 24/7 playlist is being sent by an encoder setup that supports a backup encoder, test the handoff before relying on it. YouTube recommends testing failover by stopping the primary encoder or disconnecting its Ethernet cable, then confirming that the player rolls over to the backup encoder.
This is a rehearsal recommendation, not a guarantee that every failure will recover automatically. A backup adds operational complexity: it must be configured and tested, and you still need to check that the audience-facing player resumes correctly. YouTube does not quantify an uptime improvement from failover.

Know the rewind limit on a continuous stream
YouTube DVR can let viewers pause and rewind a live stream, but DVR capabilities may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. For a continuous 24/7 broadcast, do not promise that viewers can rewind the entire stream history.
