Moderate Super Chats and Super Stickers just like other live-chat messages: use YouTube’s held-message and blocked-word controls, slow chat when needed, and assign trusted moderators to review the feed. A paid message is still subject to YouTube’s Community Guidelines, and pinning or paying for visibility does not exempt it from moderation.
Set up moderation before the stream
Review your channel’s current live-chat settings in YouTube Studio. YouTube changes interface labels and locations over time, so use the current Studio interface to find Content controls and moderation settings.

Choose a held-message level
YouTube offers None, Basic, and Strict moderation for potentially inappropriate live-chat messages. Basic holds potentially inappropriate messages for review; Strict holds a broader range. YouTube cautions that automated detection is imperfect. If a message is held, it remains hidden unless a moderator acts on it.

Add blocked words and review link controls
In YouTube Studio, check Content controls for your blocked-word list and any relevant link controls. Add words that are specifically useful for your channel. The filter catches messages containing or closely matching configured words; it is a screening aid, not a replacement for human judgment.
Set chat limits if the feed is difficult to manage
Slow mode limits how often each user can send a message. YouTube says channel owners, moderators, and members are exempt from the limit described in its help page. You can also consider participation restrictions when volume or abuse makes review difficult. Slower posting and stricter filtering can reduce exposure, but may delay legitimate participation.

Assign moderators with appropriate permissions
Add people you trust and give them only the permissions they need. Standard moderators can remove content, time out or hide users, and review held messages. Managing moderators have additional controls, but YouTube’s mobile moderation guidance says moderator permissions do not provide access to Live Control Room or YouTube Studio. Moderate the live chat during a nonstop stream
Review paid messages under the same rules as other chat
Watch the live-chat feed for Super Chats and Super Stickers, and apply your usual policy-based review. YouTube explicitly says creators can moderate Supers the same way as live-chat messages. Payment, visibility, or pinning does not make a message immune from the Community Guidelines. Read YouTube’s Super Chat and Super Stickers guidance for the platform’s rules.

Choose the right intervention
- Remove a message when its content violates your rules or YouTube policy.
- Time out a user when a temporary restriction is appropriate. YouTube lists timeout choices of 10 seconds, 1 minute, 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 30 minutes, and 24 hours.
- Hide a user when you need to stop their messages and comments from appearing to other viewers. YouTube says the user is not notified that they have been hidden.
- Review a held message and show it only if it is appropriate for the chat. Otherwise, leave it hidden.
Plan coverage and handovers
YouTube’s guidance does not prescribe a staffing rota, moderator-to-viewer ratio, or response-time target for a 24/7 stream. Set those expectations for your own channel: decide who covers each period, how a handover is recorded, what warrants escalation, and how moderators should treat borderline messages. Give incoming moderators enough context to apply the same rules consistently.
What happens to a Super after moderation?
Deleting a Super Chat after the stream does not issue a refund. YouTube separately says that when it moderates a Super Chat or Sticker for a policy violation, YouTube’s portion of the revenue is donated to charity. These are distinct outcomes; do not treat message removal as a creator-issued refund. Details are in YouTube’s live-chat moderation guidance and its Supers guidance.

Review chat and Supers after the stream
You can review live-chat history and Supers, and YouTube Analytics provides revenue reporting for Supers. The live chat itself is not available after the stream ends, though a replay may be available on the archive by default. Use the history and revenue views for follow-up; do not assume the full live chat remains available after the broadcast.

How Super Chat revenue works
YouTube’s help documentation, accessed in 2026, says creators receive 70% of Supers revenue confirmed by Google. YouTube calculates this after local sales tax and iOS App Store fees are deducted, and currently covers transaction costs such as credit-card fees. Revenue terms and feature availability can change, so check YouTube’s current Super Chat and Super Stickers terms for account-specific and up-to-date details.
