To make a continuous lofi radio stream, overlap each track with the next, fade the outgoing track down as the incoming one comes up, then listen through every transition and check for level jumps, clashes, clicks, and clipping. In Audacity, select the same overlap range on both tracks and apply Crossfade Tracks. There is no universal crossfade duration or loudness target for lofi; let the music and the audition determine the settings.
Check music rights before you build the stream
Confirm that you have permission to use every track in a YouTube livestream, and check whether that permission also covers monetization and any archived recording. YouTube says it knows music in its Audio Library to be copyright-safe on YouTube. If a selected Audio Library track carries a Creative Commons license, include the attribution text supplied by YouTube. Music from another library does not carry the same assurance from YouTube, so check that library’s license and terms yourself.
A Content ID claim can lead to a video being blocked, monetized by a rights holder, or tracked; the action can vary by geography. Review YouTube’s Content ID guidance and resolve rights questions before going live rather than assuming that a track labeled “royalty-free” is automatically cleared for your use.
Prepare the tracks and plan each transition
Import the tracks into a multitrack project in Audacity and arrange them in the order you want them heard. For each handoff, overlap the end of one track with the start of the next. A crossfade makes the outgoing track quieter while the incoming track grows, rather than cutting abruptly from one file to another.

Listen for musical fit as well as smoothness: a drum pattern can clash with the next track’s rhythm, sustained notes can create a dissonance, and a transition that is technically smooth can still feel awkward if the phrasing does not line up. There is no documented lofi-specific ideal overlap length. Choose one that fits the material, then audition it in context.
Apply and choose a crossfade in Audacity
- Place the two tracks so their audio overlaps at the intended handoff.
- Select the same time range on both tracks. The selection length sets the crossfade duration.
- Open Effects > Fading > Crossfade Tracks and choose a curve to try. Audacity documents constant-gain and constant-power options, among others.
- Play the transition from before the overlap through its end. If it dips, swells, clashes, or changes the groove, adjust the overlap or curve and listen again.
Audacity describes constant gain as useful for correlated material, while constant-power shapes can suit unrelated material where equal-gain fades might dip. Those are starting points, not rules for every pair of lofi tracks. Compare the options on the actual transition: does the middle stay even, do rhythm and harmony work together, and does the overlap create an audible loudness bump?

Match levels and prevent clicks or clipping
Tracks can have different perceived loudness even when their peaks look similar. Adjust track gain or use Audacity’s loudness normalization to bring levels closer, then listen across every overlap. When audio is mixed, the waveforms add together, which can raise the level at the transition. Normalizing tracks individually does not guarantee that the combined overlap will avoid a peak or sound consistent.

Audacity identifies −23 LUFS (EBU R 128) as a broadcast target and a reasonable spoken-word default; that is not a universal target for a lofi music stream or a YouTube requirement. Treat loudness as something to balance by ear for this use, and keep the signal below 0 dBFS. OBS warns that streamed audio reaching or exceeding 0 dBFS can clip and distort.
Clicks can occur at abrupt waveform cuts. Use short fades where a cut needs smoothing, then check both the transition and the OBS audio meter while the mix is playing. Audition the complete sequence before going live
- Play every overlap from a little before the outgoing track fades to a little after the incoming track takes over.
- Listen for a dip or swell in the overlap, a sudden change in perceived level, a rhythmic or harmonic clash, and clicks at edits.
- Watch the signal reaching OBS as well as listening to the project; check that overlap peaks do not clip.
- Make a final pass through the ordered sequence. A stream may be joined at any point, so check transitions throughout, not only the opening.
