You can mirror a phone, tablet, or computer to a TV if both devices support the same connection method—or if you add a compatible receiver. First identify your source device and the TV’s receiver: AirPlay for iPhone and iPad, Google Cast for supported Android and Chrome routes, or Miracast for compatible Windows PCs. “Any TV” is not a compatibility guarantee: the method depends on the TV model or an attached streaming device or adapter.
If you only want to play a video or photo, try the app’s Cast or AirPlay control. For the full device interface, use screen mirroring. When wireless options do not match, a wired HDMI connection may work if the device supports video output through its port.

Choose a method that both devices support
| Source device | Wireless method | What you need | Network or mode notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| iPhone or iPad | AirPlay screen mirroring | Apple TV or AirPlay-compatible TV | Source and receiver must be on the same Wi-Fi network. |
| Android phone or tablet | Google Home screen cast, or a device-maker feature such as Smart View | A compatible Google streaming device or a TV that supports the selected feature | Google’s documented route requires Android 8.0 or later and the same Wi-Fi network. |
| Windows PC | Miracast | A PC and TV or attached adapter that both support Miracast | Windows+K connects; Windows+P selects Duplicate or Extend. |
| Computer using Chrome | Google Cast from Chrome | A compatible Google Cast receiver or TV | Google recommends a strong connection to the same Wi-Fi; tab casting sends audio to the TV. |
AirPlay, Google Cast, and Miracast are separate compatibility paths. A TV that supports one does not necessarily support the others. Check the TV’s model specifications or settings, and confirm whether its receiver is enabled. If the TV lacks the matching receiver, a compatible streaming device or wireless display adapter may provide one.
Use an app’s own Cast or AirPlay option when you want supported content on the TV rather than the entire screen. Some apps restrict AirPlay or offer a TV app instead.

With a TV maker’s screen-sharing feature
Some TV and phone makers provide their own compatible wireless screen-sharing route. Samsung documents SmartThings and Smart View for supported Samsung mobile devices and Samsung TVs; those instructions should not be assumed to apply to other TV brands or every model. LG describes a Quick Settings route called Screen Share, which may appear as Smart View or a similar name on supported Android devices: select the LG TV and accept the connection request on the TV. See the model-specific guidance from Samsung and LG.
Connect a Windows PC to a Miracast display
Miracast works only when both the PC and the TV or attached wireless display adapter support it. Turn on the TV and adapter, if used, before connecting.
- On the Windows PC, press Windows+K.

- Press Windows+P and choose the display mode you want: Duplicate shows the same picture on both screens, while Extend makes the TV part of a larger desktop.
Microsoft’s current projection instructions cover Windows 11 and Windows 10. Microsoft states that Windows 10 support ended on October 14, 2025. For connection and display-mode details, see Microsoft’s screen-mirroring and projection guide.

Cast from Chrome on a computer
For a Chrome computer, use a compatible Google Cast receiver or television and a strong connection to the same Wi-Fi network.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →- Open Chrome and select More > Cast, save and share > Cast.
- Choose the TV or receiver.
- To share the entire computer display, select Sources > Cast screen. For a single webpage, cast the tab instead.
Google notes that audio from a full-screen cast may play on the computer, while tab-cast audio is routed to the TV. If TV sound matters, a tab cast is usually the better choice. See Google’s Chrome casting instructions.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Use HDMI when wireless mirroring is not an option
A wired connection can bypass wireless receiver or network compatibility, but the source device must support video output through its port, and the TV needs an available HDMI input. A USB-C socket alone does not guarantee video output.

- Use the TV’s input control to select the HDMI port you connected.

Fix common connection problems
The TV does not appear
- Confirm the source device and receiver support the same method; a Miracast PC will not connect through an AirPlay-only receiver, for example.
- Check that the TV’s AirPlay or screen-sharing receiver is turned on and discoverable.
- For methods that require it, confirm both devices are on the same Wi-Fi network.
- Accept any connection or permission prompt shown on the TV.
LG and Samsung list network mismatch, disabled screen sharing, or an unaccepted TV permission prompt among possible discovery problems. LG also notes that an incompatible DFS Wi-Fi channel can interfere with AirPlay discovery on its standard models; this is not established as a universal cause. See LG’s troubleshooting guidance and Samsung’s guide.
An Android device cannot find the receiver
Check that the Android version and receiver support the route you selected. For Google Home screen casting, use Android 8.0 or later, the same Wi-Fi network, and the Google Play Services microphone permission required by Google’s documented flow.
The picture stutters
Wireless mirroring depends on connection quality. LG recommends reducing obstacles and staying near the router in its troubleshooting advice; these steps may help, but they are not a guaranteed fix.
A video app will not mirror
Some apps do not support AirPlay. Check for the app’s own Cast or AirPlay control or a version of the app for your TV. Mirroring the entire screen is not a workaround for an app that blocks or does not support the connection.
