Keymaster’s Assets and Grants pages were deprecated on October 15, 2025. For current FiveM administration, use the Cfx.re Portal to create or manage server registration keys and to manage granted assets. Your running server still reads a license value from server.cfg through sv_licenseKey; moving to Portal does not, by itself, rewrite that file.
In practice, migrate by signing in to the Cfx.re account that owns the server, creating or selecting a registration key in Portal, placing that value in the active configuration only if your server needs a change, and restarting to verify startup. Move granted assets separately through Portal’s transfer workflow.

What changed from Keymaster to Portal
Cfx.re announced on October 14, 2025 that the Assets and Grants pages inside Keymaster would be deprecated on October 15, 2025. The announcement advised administrators who still relied on Keymaster for server or asset functions to begin transitioning to Portal. Portal is therefore the current account-management surface for these tasks; old Keymaster screenshots, bookmarks and walkthroughs are no longer an authoritative procedure.

Cfx’s command documentation still defines sv_licenseKey as the server variable. A vanilla deployment reads the value from server.cfg, while a txAdmin deployment accepts the value during its recipe setup. Keep those two concepts separate:

There is no official instruction in the reviewed Cfx.re material requiring every existing server owner to regenerate a key merely because the management pages moved. If a server still starts successfully with its current value, do not replace it solely to follow an old migration checklist. Create a new key when you are setting up a server, when the account or deployment genuinely needs a different key, or when troubleshooting confirms that the current value is invalid or unavailable.
What you need before changing anything
Prepare the account, files and access needed to make one controlled change. This avoids confusing an account problem with a configuration problem.
Account access
- Sign in to the Cfx.re Portal account that owns the server or the relevant granted assets.
- Know the destination Cfx.re username if an asset will be transferred to another account.
- Have access to the email address associated with the account, because an asset transfer must be confirmed through an email sent by Cfx.re.
Server access
- Have permission to edit the deployment’s active
server.cfg, or access to the txAdmin recipe interface used to create the server. - Know the actual configuration path and startup method. A common failure is editing a copy of
server.cfgwhile the process starts with a different file. - Plan a restart window. The license value is read during startup, so a configuration change is not validated by a running process until it is restarted.
- Back up the current configuration before editing it. Preserve the existing key privately; do not paste it into public issue reports, chat rooms or screenshots.
Decide whether this is a key change or an ownership change
A server-key migration and an asset transfer are separate operations. Updating sv_licenseKey changes which registration key the server presents. Transferring a granted asset changes ownership of that asset between Cfx.re accounts. One does not substitute for the other, and moving an asset does not automatically update a server configuration.

- Open the Cfx.re Portal and sign in. Use the account that owns the server registration or is authorized to create the key. Do not rely on an old Keymaster bookmark as the starting point.
- Open the server registration-keys area. Cfx’s setup flow directs you to the Portal, where you can choose Create a key. If the account already has an appropriate key, select that key instead of creating an unnecessary replacement.
- Enter a display name. Choose a name that identifies the server or environment, such as a production or test instance. The display name helps you distinguish keys in Portal; it is not the value that belongs in
server.cfg. - Generate the key and copy the value. Copy the complete value exactly as Portal displays it. Avoid adding spaces, line breaks or quotation marks inside the value itself.
- Back up and inspect the active configuration. Confirm which
server.cfgyour launch command or service uses. Keep a copy of the previous file so you can restore it if the restart exposes an unrelated configuration error. - Update the variable only when required. In a standard configuration, the entry is:
sv_licenseKey "your-key"Replace your-key with the value copied from Portal. Keep the quotation marks shown in the example and do not include explanatory text on the same line. If the existing key remains valid and you are only moving from Keymaster to Portal as an administrative workflow, leaving the existing line unchanged is permissible; the reviewed Cfx.re guidance does not say that every owner must regenerate and replace a working value.
- Save the file and restart the server. Stop and start the instance using your normal service, script or console procedure. A simple file save does not cause a running process to reread the key.
- Read the startup output. Confirm that the server reaches its normal startup state without a license-related error. If it fails, check the account, copied value, quotation marks and active configuration path before changing resources or unrelated settings.
- Record the result. Note the Portal key’s display name, the server it serves and the date of the change in your private operations documentation. Never record the secret value in a public repository.
Step-by-step: migrate a txAdmin deployment
txAdmin uses a recipe-driven setup. You normally provide the Portal-created key before the recipe runs rather than manually editing a finished server first.
- Open txAdmin and start the recipe flow for the server you are creating or reconfiguring.
- When the recipe displays the Before you begin step, paste the key created in the Cfx.re Portal into the license-key field.
- Click Run Recipe. The txAdmin guide specifically directs administrators to enter the Portal key at this step.
- Allow the recipe to complete, review the generated configuration and click Save & Run Server.
- Inspect the console during startup. If the key is rejected, stop the server and validate the Portal account, the copied value and the recipe field before rerunning it.
If an existing txAdmin server already runs with a valid key, migration of the management interface alone does not require rebuilding the recipe. Treat a recipe edit as a configuration change: preserve the current files, change only the key field when necessary, and restart once.

Do you have to replace an old Keymaster key?
No blanket replacement is established by the Cfx.re material. The deprecation moved the Assets and Grants management pages to Portal. It did not state that every previously issued server key becomes invalid on that date.

Use the following decision rule:

Do not delete a working key before confirming that the replacement is accepted. A staged change with a backup gives you a straightforward rollback path.
Move granted assets to another Cfx.re account
Use this procedure when the goal is to transfer an asset, not merely to change the key used by the server.
- Sign in to the Cfx.re Portal account that currently owns the asset.
- Open the Granted Assets page.
- Select the asset you want to move and choose Transfer.
- Enter the destination user’s Cfx.re username exactly.
- Confirm the request and wait for the email from Cfx.re.
- Complete the confirmation from that email. The transfer is an ownership action between accounts; it is not a replacement for
sv_licenseKey.
After the transfer, update your private inventory and verify that the destination account can see the asset. If the server still uses a key owned by the original account, changing asset ownership does not automatically rewrite the server’s configuration. Keep the two records—server registration key and granted-asset ownership—separate in your documentation.
Choose a deployment route after migration
Cfx.re documents Windows, Linux, txAdmin and game-server hosting providers as supported ways to run a FiveM server. Portal migration itself does not require buying hardware or a hosting package. Choose a route based on who will operate the machine and how much control the team needs.

For any route, evaluate available player slots, CPU and RAM capacity, storage, network ports and firewall controls. A provider is useful only if its workflow lets you preserve the files and data you are migrating and exposes enough logging to verify startup.

Work from the license requirement outward. Changing unrelated resources first makes it harder to identify the cause.
The server says the key is invalid or missing
- Return to Portal and sign in to the account that owns the server registration.
- Copy the complete key again. Check for a truncated selection, leading or trailing spaces and accidental line breaks.
- Check that the configuration uses the exact variable name
sv_licenseKeyand that the value is quoted as insv_licenseKey "your-key". - Confirm that the process is loading the file you edited. Compare the startup command, service definition, txAdmin data path or hosting-panel setting with your intended location.
- Restart after saving. A running process will not validate a newly edited file until startup.
The new key works in one server but not another
First verify that the two instances are not loading different configuration files or accounts. Check each startup command and each Portal key’s display name. Keep one key-to-server mapping in your private notes so a test environment is not accidentally configured with production credentials.
txAdmin starts the recipe but the server does not start
Confirm that the key was entered in the recipe’s Before you begin step, that Run Recipe completed, and that you clicked Save & Run Server. Review the generated configuration and console output before changing resources. If the key field is correct, investigate the next startup error independently; a license problem and a resource problem can occur in the same launch.
An asset transfer is not visible on the destination account
Check that the destination username was entered exactly and that the confirmation email was completed. Verify that you are viewing the destination account’s Granted Assets page, not the original account. Do not edit sv_licenseKey as a substitute for completing the transfer.
You cannot access the old Keymaster page
That is expected for deprecated Assets and Grants functions. Use the Cfx.re Portal for current key and asset administration. Old instructions may still describe file syntax accurately, but their navigation steps are no longer the current workflow.
Security and rollback practices
- Treat a server registration key as a secret. Share it only through the administrative channel required by the people operating that server.
- Keep configuration backups private and restrict file permissions to the service account and administrators.
- Change one thing at a time: create or select the Portal key, update the key line if necessary, restart, then assess the result.
- If startup fails, restore the backed-up
server.cfgor previous txAdmin configuration and restart. This returns the server to its prior known state while you investigate. - Do not publish complete startup logs if they contain the key or other credentials. Redact secrets before requesting help.
Migration checklist
- Identify whether you are changing a server key, transferring an asset, or both.
- Sign in to the correct Cfx.re Portal account.
- Create or select the required registration key and note its display name.
- Back up the active configuration.
- For a vanilla server, verify or update
sv_licenseKey "your-key"in the configuration actually loaded at startup. - For txAdmin, enter the key in Before you begin, choose Run Recipe, and finish with Save & Run Server.
- Restart and inspect startup output.
- For asset ownership, open Granted Assets, choose the asset, select Transfer, enter the destination username and confirm through email.
- Record the account, key display name, server and date privately; never publish the key itself.
Once these checks pass, your server is using the current Portal-based management workflow while retaining the documented sv_licenseKey configuration required at runtime.
