To measure stress on a compatible Galaxy wearable, open Samsung Health, choose Stress, tap Measure, then sit quietly and keep still while the reading is taken. The number is a wellness estimate based on body signals—not a direct reading of your emotions or a medical diagnosis.
What Samsung Health’s stress reading measures
Samsung describes stress measurement as checking heart rate and other factors. For the Galaxy Watch5 feature, Samsung Gulf Support says, “The watch uses heart rate variability (HRV) to estimate stress levels.” HRV refers to variation in the time between heartbeats. It is a physiological signal, not a measure of how stressed you feel.

Samsung’s general support information does not disclose the full scoring algorithm, the relative weight of its inputs, or an accuracy percentage. There is therefore no official percentage to use when judging how closely a score reflects your emotional state.
Newer Galaxy Watch models have additional sensor capabilities, but these should not be confused with the Stress tracker. Samsung’s Sensor SDK lists heart-rate data, including inter-beat interval, and says electrodermal activity (EDA) measurement is available on Galaxy Watch8 series and later. Samsung describes EDA as useful for physiological-response insights related to stress and sleep; that does not establish that EDA feeds the older Stress score. Samsung Health Sensor SDK and Samsung’s EDA guide describe these sensor streams.

What you need to measure stress
Availability depends on your device, software, and region. Samsung Canada’s instructions specify a compatible Galaxy Watch or Galaxy Ring for stress monitoring in Samsung Health in Canada. Samsung’s US support page also documents measurement on some phones that have a heart-rate sensor; it says Galaxy Note10, S20, and later models do not have one and advises using a watch if the phone lacks that sensor. Check Samsung Health and support information for your exact model and region rather than assuming every Galaxy phone or wearable supports the feature.
How to take a reading
- Wear your compatible Galaxy Watch or Galaxy Ring as directed, with the sensor making proper contact with your skin. If using a supported phone-based option, confirm that your phone has a heart-rate sensor.
- Open Samsung Health and select the Stress tile.
- Tap Measure.
- Sit down, stay quiet and still, and wait for the measurement to finish.
- Review the result in Samsung Health. The app can show your history across hours, days, weeks, or months and offers guided breathing through the Stress feature.
On a compatible watch, Samsung Health may also offer continuous stress measurement. Samsung warns that continuous measurement may reduce battery life.

How to get a more reliable reading
A reading can vary with measurement conditions. Samsung advises wearing the device correctly, keeping its sensor clean, and staying seated and still. Cold conditions, activity, an unusually high or low heart rate, a poor fit, smoking, and alcohol may affect results.
- If a result seems unusual, rest before measuring again.
- Check that the sensor is clean and in contact with your skin.
- Note relevant circumstances—such as recent activity or cold exposure—when reviewing a change in your history.
- Use the trend view for context rather than treating one score as definitive.
What your stress level can—and cannot—tell you
The score is best treated as one wellness signal to observe over time. A fluctuation does not necessarily mean your emotional stress changed: physiological signals can shift for reasons unrelated to how you feel. The available Samsung documentation does not provide a validated accuracy percentage or enough detail about the scoring method to interpret the number as a precise measure.

Samsung Canada states: “Stress measurements are intended for your personal wellness and are not designed to diagnose or treat medical conditions.” If you have a health concern, seek appropriate professional care instead of relying on a wearable score. Samsung gives the same general boundary for data from its Sensor SDK: it is for fitness and wellness information, not diagnosis or treatment.

Samsung has also described Vitals, which compares five overnight measures—heart rate, HRV, respiratory rate, skin temperature, and blood oxygen—with a user’s resting baseline to identify changes from usual patterns. Vitals is a separate set of insights, not another name for the Stress tracker score. Samsung notes that newer features depend on compatible devices, software, account, and setup requirements, and are intended for wellness rather than diagnosis or treatment. See the Samsung Newsroom announcement for its description of Vitals.
