Track a successfully completed demo request and a successfully completed sign-up as separate GA4 key events, then report them against a clearly defined organic-search audience. Use Search Console to study Google Search impressions, clicks, queries and landing pages; use GA4 to measure visits and on-site completions. If you need to know which leads qualified or became deals, connect the relevant CRM lifecycle stages and report them separately.

Decide what counts as a conversion

A demo request and an account sign-up are different business outcomes. Give each a distinct event name or documented event parameter convention, and mark the events that matter to the business as GA4 key events. Google describes the event-to-key-event setup in its GA4 conversion documentation; available conversion features can vary by property.

Fire the event only after the application accepts the action—for example, after a successful server response or a reliable confirmation state. A form view, button click, or unsuccessful submission is not a completed conversion. Check that the success event is sent once for the intended completion, including on relevant form, confirmation, authentication and checkout domains.

Decide whether your report counts every completion or unique people. Event counts can help estimate submission workload; unique users can describe reach. If one person can submit a demo form more than once, document how repeats are handled rather than treating event totals as people.

Separate Search Console’s job from GA4’s

Search Console describes Google Search performance before the click: impressions, clicks, queries and search landing pages. GA4 describes measured behavior after a visitor reaches the site, including sessions and event completions. Google recommends using the two products together while treating them as sources for different stages of the journey: Using Search Console and Google Analytics data for SEO.

In GA4, start with the Traffic acquisition report or a landing-page report and filter for the organic-search scope you want. Google’s Looker Studio example uses Session source = google and Session medium = organic; adapt the filter to your site’s channel definitions and the search engines you include. A Google-organic filter answers a narrower question than all organic search.

You can also connect Search Console to GA4 to access Google Organic Search Queries and Google Organic Search Traffic reports. The traffic report combines Search Console and Analytics landing-page metrics, with country and device dimensions. Query reporting uses Search Console dimensions, not arbitrary Analytics dimensions. Google says Search Console data is retained for up to 16 months and appears in Analytics 48 hours after Search Console collects it. See Connect Search Console to Google Analytics.

Choose a conversion rate whose numerator and denominator match

One useful landing-page measure is:

Organic demo-request rate = completed demo-request events in the selected organic-search scope ÷ organic-search sessions in that same scope.

Use the same calculation for sign-ups. State whether the numerator is events or unique users, whether the denominator is sessions, users or landing-page sessions, which search engines and pages are included, and the reporting period. If the numerator uses event-scoped attribution while the denominator uses session-scoped traffic, label that distinction: the scopes can tell different stories. Google notes that changing attribution models affects event-scoped traffic dimensions, while session- and user-scoped dimensions are unaffected (Select attribution settings).

There is no universal organic demo or sign-up conversion-rate target established by the cited official sources. Audience, product, qualification rules, attribution and denominator all affect the result. Build a baseline from your own consistently defined cohorts rather than applying an unsupported benchmark.

Make channel attribution explicit

“Which channel drove this conversion?” can refer to the channel that first introduced a person, the session in which the conversion happened, or credit distributed across multiple interactions. Choose a GA4 report dimension and attribution model that answer the question you intend to ask. GA4 attribution settings also specify eligible channels and key-event lookback windows.

Google documents a default 90-day key-event lookback window for most events other than first_open and first_visit, with 30- and 60-day alternatives. The acquisition-event default is 30 days, with a 7-day option. A 30-day window makes only touchpoints within that period eligible for credit. Settings can change, so verify the property’s current configuration and state the model and window alongside reported results.

In event-scoped reports, data-driven attribution may assign fractional credit across interactions. Such credit is not a count of unique people or raw form submissions. First-click, linear, time-decay and position-based models were documented as no longer available as of November 2023; verify which models and controls are currently available in your property.

Follow leads into qualification and revenue only when the data supports it

GA4’s lead acquisition report distinguishes lifecycle stages when the corresponding events are sent:

  • New leads: unique users with generate_lead.
  • Qualified leads: unique users with qualify_lead.
  • Converted leads: unique users with close_convert_lead.

Use these labels only if your organization has explicit definitions for each stage and can reliably send the transitions—ideally from the system that owns the CRM status. Google’s lead acquisition report documentation describes the report and required events.

A demo request, qualified lead, closed deal and recognized revenue are not interchangeable outcomes. They happen at different points and can have different delays. Where appropriate, connect CRM outcomes to web acquisition data through a consent-aware, privacy-reviewed identity and data-transfer design. HubSpot, for example, documents contact-, deal-create- and deal-revenue attribution report types and multiple models; some reports require Professional or Enterprise subscriptions, so confirm current eligibility and setup in HubSpot’s attribution-report documentation.

For HubSpot-hosted content, its documentation describes adding a GA4 measurement ID or tracking code. A consent configuration that requires opt-in can prevent the GA script from running for visitors who opt out. Validate tracking across the actual journey rather than assuming one installation covers every step: Integrate Google Analytics with HubSpot content.

Compare pages or periods on equal terms

Before comparing landing pages, channels or date ranges, keep the measurement axes consistent—or show where they differ:

  • Outcome: demo request, sign-up, qualified lead, converted lead, deal or revenue.
  • Count basis: events, unique users or sessions.
  • Attribution: session source or event-scoped model, eligible channels and lookback window.
  • Denominator: sessions, users or landing-page sessions.
  • Scope: search engine, landing page, country, device and date range.
  • Data quality: event coverage, consent behavior, tag coverage and completeness of CRM lifecycle events.

A comparison is meaningful only when each row answers the same question. Use Search Console to diagnose Google Search visibility and query or landing-page trends; use GA4 and, where relevant, CRM outcomes to assess on-site completions and business results.

Investigate differences between Search Console clicks and GA4 sessions

Search Console clicks and GA4 sessions are not expected to match one for one. Google lists several possible causes: missing Analytics tags, consent opt-outs, time-zone differences (Search Console uses Pacific Time while GA4 uses the property’s configured time zone), attribution differences, canonical URL handling, different traffic breakdowns, non-HTML pages and bot filtering. See Google’s comparison guidance.

  • Confirm the GA4 tag and completion event run on every relevant page and subdomain.
  • Check whether consent choices prevent collection for some visitors.
  • Align date, country and device filters before comparing reports.
  • Check whether Search Console’s canonical URL differs from the URL carrying the Analytics tag.
  • Confirm whether you are comparing clicks with sessions, users, event counts or attributed key events; these are different measures.
  • Allow for the documented 48-hour delay before Search Console data is available in the GA4 integration.

For a more detailed combined analysis, Google recommends joining Search Console bulk exports and GA BigQuery exports; landing page, country and device are useful shared dimensions. A Looker Studio blend is an alternative for simpler reporting.
