Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?

Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallYou can tune Google Discover without turning the feed off. On an Android phone or tablet, open the Google app, tap your profile picture or initial, and choose Settings → Personalization → Manage your interests. From there, use Following to remove topics you explicitly follow. For a story you do not want, open the card’s More menu and choose Not interested in [Topic] or Don’t show content from [Source]. Google requires you to be signed in to manage interests.
These controls have different reach: unfollowing changes your followed-topic list, hiding removes a topic or publisher from recommendations, and turning Discover off removes the feed altogether. The steps below reflect Google’s Android documentation as listed on October 13, 2026; menu names and availability can vary by language, region, account, and app version.

Choose the control that matches the problem
Start with the smallest change that solves your problem. A single unwanted publisher does not require disabling the whole feed, while a feed you never use does not require editing dozens of topics.
| What you want to change | Control | Where it acts | Can you reverse it? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Remove a topic you deliberately followed | Unfollow | Your explicit Following list | Yes; follow the topic again later |
| Stop a subject from appearing in recommendations | Not interested in [Topic] |
Discover recommendations for that topic | Yes; use the Not interested area and choose Unhide |
| Stop stories from one publisher | Don’t show content from [Source] |
Discover cards attributed to that source | Yes; use the Not interested area and choose Unhide |
| Influence how often similar stories appear | Like a card | Recommendation signals for your account | Likes can be managed from your interests |
| Remove the Discover experience | Discover off | Google app feed, or the Discover panel on google.com where supported | Yes; switch it on again |
Google does not promise that any one setting will instantly remove every related story. Discover combines several signals, so use the narrow control first and give the feed time to adjust.

Open Google’s interest-management page
Use the Google app on Android
- Open the Google app on your Android phone or tablet.
- Tap your profile picture or initial in the top-right corner.
- Tap Settings.
- Choose Personalization.
- Tap Manage your interests.
- Open Following to see topics you currently follow.
Google documents this route in its Access & manage your interests help page. The same destination can also be reached from a Discover card: tap the card’s More menu, then tap Manage your interests.
You must be logged into a Google Account. Google’s help page states: “Only signed-in Google users can access and manage interests.” If the option is missing, check that the Google app is using the account whose Discover feed you want to change.
What the Interests page contains
The page is divided into Liked, Saved, and Followed areas. Followed is where you manage topics you have explicitly chosen to follow. It also provides controls for notifications related to followed topics; changing a notification preference does not itself unfollow the topic.

Unfollow a topic you no longer want
Remove it from Following
- Open the Google app and go to Profile picture or initial → Settings → Personalization → Manage your interests.
- Tap Following.
- Find the topic you want to remove.
- Tap Following beside that topic. The control changes to indicate that you are no longer following it.
Unfollowing changes your explicit follow relationship. It is different from marking a recommendation as unwanted: a topic can disappear from Following while related stories still be eligible through other Discover signals.
Handle notifications separately
If the subject is useful but its alerts are distracting, change its notification setting in the Followed area instead of unfollowing it. Google treats the follow state and notification preference as separate controls, so review both when you are troubleshooting alerts.
Hide an unwanted topic or publisher from a Discover card
Hide the topic
- Open the Google app and scroll to the Discover card you do not want.
- Tap the card’s More menu, usually shown as three dots.
- Choose Not interested in
[Topic]. The bracketed wording is replaced by the topic Google identified for that story.
This is the appropriate choice when the subject itself is the problem, regardless of which publisher produced the card.

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Hide the source
- On the unwanted card, tap More.
- Choose Don’t show content from
[Source].
Use this when you want to keep seeing the subject but do not want cards attributed to a particular publisher. The source name shown in the menu is the label Google has associated with that card.

Google warns that topic- and source-hiding controls may not be available in every language or region. If neither option appears, the limitation may be regional or language-based rather than a problem with your phone. Google’s current instructions are in Customize what you find in Discover.
Topic hiding versus source hiding
These two card-menu choices solve opposite problems. Choose Not interested in [Topic] when you want fewer stories about the subject itself. Choose Don’t show content from [Source] when you still want that subject, but not from the publisher attached to the card.
For example, hiding a source is the narrower response when several outlets cover a subject and only one outlet is unsuitable. Hiding the topic is broader and can affect recommendations from multiple publishers. If you select the broader option by mistake, the hidden-item list lets you reverse it later.
Restore a topic or source you hid
Restore it in the Android app
- Open the Google app.
- Tap your profile picture or initial, then open Settings.
- Tap Interests.
- Open Not interested.
- Tap Unhide beside the topic or source you want to restore.
Google’s documentation uses Settings → Interests → Not interested for the app restore path. Because the Search settings interface is changing, your account may instead show the entry beneath Personalization or Manage your interests.
Restore it from a mobile browser
- Go to google.com while signed in to the relevant Google Account.
- Open your profile menu and choose Settings.
- In the Discover section, select Manage interests.
- Open Not interested.
- Tap Unhide next to the topic or source.
Unhiding makes the item eligible for recommendations again; it does not force a story to appear immediately. The feed may still rank other interests, account activity, or location signals more highly.
Use likes to fine-tune recommendation frequency
When a Discover card is useful, tap its Like control. Google says liking cards is another way to influence how often related topics appear. Likes are visible only to you, although Google says your selections may be shared anonymously with publishers.
A like is a positive recommendation signal, not a subscription. If you need a guaranteed update stream for a subject, use the Followed area and review its notification setting; if you simply want more stories like one card, a like is the lighter-touch option.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Understand the signals Discover uses
Topic controls work alongside broader personalization. Google says Discover may use information from your device and other Google products, activity on your account, recommendation settings, and location-related settings. That is why hiding one card or unfollowing one topic may not remove every story with similar keywords.

When a feed continues to show adjacent material, inspect the card menu for a more precise topic label, hide the source if the publisher is the issue, and review your followed topics and likes. Avoid marking an entire subject as unwanted when only one publisher or format is bothering you.
Adjust language, video, weather, notifications, and ads
Discover has settings beyond topic interests. Google’s Change your Discover settings page documents controls for:
- Hiding stories written in another language.
- Changing weather units.
- Controlling video autoplay.
- Managing Discover notifications.
- Adjusting ad personalization.
These settings solve different problems from hiding a topic or source. For example, changing video autoplay affects playback behavior, not which subjects Google recommends. Likewise, changing ad personalization changes how ads are tailored; it does not create an ad-free Discover feed. Google says Discover cannot be used without ads, although the ads shown can be adjusted.

Turn Discover off completely
Disable it in the Google app
- Open the Google app.
- Tap your profile picture or initial.
- Tap Settings.
- Choose General.
- Turn Discover off.
This removes the Discover feed from the Google app for that account and device experience. It does not delete your Google Account activity or prevent you from using Google Search.
Hide Discover on google.com
- Open google.com in a mobile browser while signed in.
- Tap your profile picture or initial.
- Choose More settings.
- Open Other settings.
- Turn Show Discover on home page off.
Google documents this browser switch in Turn off Discover. The browser homepage option is not available in every country or language. If you do not see it, use the Google app switch or check whether your regional version supports the setting.
What turning Discover off does—and does not do
The off switch controls whether the Discover experience is shown in the Google app or, where supported, on the google.com homepage. It is a display and recommendation control, not an account-deletion command. You can continue using Search, and switching Discover back on restores the experience for that Google Account in the relevant interface.
If you only want fewer alerts, do not start with the off switch. Review Discover notifications first. If videos are the annoyance, change autoplay. If ads are the concern, adjust ad personalization, keeping in mind that Google says Discover cannot be used without ads.
Troubleshoot missing or ineffective controls
The Manage your interests option is missing
- Confirm that you are signed in to the Google Account whose feed you are viewing.
- Open the menu on an individual Discover card; Google may expose Manage your interests there even when the main Settings layout differs.
- Look under both Personalization and Interests, because Google is updating Search services settings.
- Check the app’s language and your region if topic or source controls are unavailable.
The same kind of story still appears
- Check whether you unfollowed a topic or only disabled its notifications; those actions are separate.
- Use Not interested in
[Topic]when the subject is unwanted, rather than hiding one source. - Use Don’t show content from
[Source]when the subject is acceptable but the publisher is not. - Review likes, followed topics, account activity, and location-related personalization, all of which Google lists as possible Discover inputs.
- Allow for ranking changes; Google does not promise immediate or absolute removal of every related story.
You changed your mind
Open the Not interested area and use Unhide. If the menu labels do not match the documented path, search the Google app’s Settings for Interests or open the Discover card’s More menu to reach interest management.

Check each area before making a broad change
A quick review of the Interests page can reveal why a topic keeps returning. Look through Followed for subjects you intentionally added in the past. Review Liked for positive signals you no longer want to reinforce. The page also includes Saved items, so you can distinguish material you kept for later from topics you actively follow.
Do not treat a notification as proof that you still follow a topic, or a saved item as proof that you want more recommendations about it. Google presents these areas separately, and the follow and notification controls are separate as well. Make the change that matches the behavior you are trying to correct.
A practical cleanup routine
- Unfollow topics you intentionally added but no longer want.
- Hide individual unwanted subjects from the card menu.
- Hide a publisher only when the source, rather than the subject, is the problem.
- Like cards that represent subjects you want to see more often.
- Review notifications, autoplay, language, weather units, and ad personalization under Discover settings.
- Use the Discover-off switch only if you do not want the feed at all.
This sequence keeps the intervention narrow, leaves reversible choices available, and avoids sacrificing useful parts of Discover because of one recurring topic or publisher.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesAllow for interface and availability differences
Google’s help pages describe an Android-focused experience, and the exact labels can move as Search services settings are updated. A menu called Personalization on one account may appear as Interests on another. The card-level More menu is therefore useful when the main Settings route is hard to find.
Language and regional availability also matters. Google specifically warns that hiding topics or sources may not be offered everywhere, and the browser control for showing Discover on the homepage is unavailable in some countries or languages. Missing controls in those cases are a service limitation, not evidence that the account change failed.
Frequently Asked Questions

Open the card’s More menu and choose Don’t show content from [Source]. This is narrower than hiding the entire topic.
Can I undo a hidden topic or publisher?
Yes. In the Google app, go to Settings → Interests → Not interested and tap Unhide beside the topic or source. The labels may differ while Google updates Search settings.
Why am I still seeing related stories after hiding a topic?
Discover uses multiple inputs, including account activity, device and other Google product information, recommendation settings, and location-related settings. Google does not promise immediate or absolute removal of every related story.
How do I stop Discover notifications without unfollowing a topic?
Open the Followed area in Manage your interests and change the notification setting. Following a topic and receiving its notifications are separate controls.
How do I turn off Google Discover?

Can I remove ads from Discover?
No. Google says Discover cannot be used without ads, although you can adjust ad personalization and the ads shown.
The Bottom Line
Use Following to unfollow topics, a card’s More menu to hide a topic or source, and Not interested → Unhide to reverse a hide. Likes, notifications, language, autoplay, weather, and ad settings provide additional tuning. Turn Discover off only when you want the feed gone entirely, and remember that labels and availability vary by account, language, region, and interface.
