Knox Mobile Enrollment (KME) automates the handoff from a company-owned Samsung Galaxy device to your enterprise mobility management (EMM) system. An administrator prepares an enrollment profile in the Knox Admin Portal, assigns it to devices, and lets users complete setup on a new or factory-reset phone or tablet. KME is not an EMM by itself: the profile identifies the EMM tenant and controls which supported Knox services are added.

The reliable rollout sequence is to verify the exact Galaxy Enterprise Edition model and market, prepare the EMM and Knox accounts, have a participating reseller upload device identifiers for out-of-box enrollment (OOBE), create and assign a profile, then verify both KME and EMM status. QR enrollment is a useful alternative for eligible Android 10 or later devices, especially when a reseller has not uploaded the hardware.

What Knox Mobile Enrollment does—and what it does not

Samsung describes Knox Mobile Enrollment as an automated enrollment tool for bulk-enrolling corporate devices during their first setup. KME stores the device record and the enrollment instructions; it does not provide the complete policy, application, compliance, or remote-support functions normally delivered by an EMM or unified endpoint management (UEM) platform.

Every KME profile therefore has a management destination. You select an EMM and provide the information that allows the device to enroll in your organization’s tenant. Depending on the profile and available licensing, you can also select Knox cloud services, such as Knox Service Plugin where applicable. The phone or tablet still receives its day-to-day management policies from the EMM.

Yojaro 4Pack Silicone Suction Phone Case Mount, Silicon Adhesive Smartphones Stand Sticky, Hands-Free Phone Accessories Holder for Selfies and Videos (Black & White & Translucent & Light Pink)
  • 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
  • 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
  • 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
  • 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
  • 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
  • KME supplies: device association, profile assignment, and an automated enrollment handoff during setup.
  • Your EMM supplies: users, authentication, configuration policies, applications, compliance rules, and ongoing administration.
  • Optional Knox services: services selected in the profile, subject to device eligibility, regional availability, and the licenses attached to the organization.

Separating these roles prevents a common deployment error: configuring a KME profile but never preparing the EMM tenant that the profile targets.

Confirm the fleet and prerequisites before ordering

Identify the exact model, market, and Android version

“Galaxy Enterprise Edition” is a device-and-service package rather than one model. Samsung uses the Enterprise Edition name across selected Galaxy S, Z, A, Tab S, and rugged families. The eligible models, bundled services, and commercial terms vary by country or region, so record the complete model code and intended sales market before purchase. A model sold in one market may not have the same Enterprise Edition offer or KME feature eligibility elsewhere.

KME officially supports Samsung devices running the latest five major Android versions, according to Samsung’s 2026 documentation. That broad rule does not guarantee that every KME feature works on every model. Check the current supported-device information for the exact model, Android release, and feature you plan to use.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Capture these details for every purchase batch:

  • Country or sales region and the exact model/SKU code.
  • Android version at shipment and the update policy expected during the rollout.
  • Whether the device is new, already configured, or scheduled for a factory reset.
  • The authorized participating reseller responsible for uploading device identifiers.
  • The EMM/UEM tenant into which the devices must enroll.
  • Whether the profile needs only basic EMM enrollment or advanced KME settings and additional Knox services.

Prepare the Knox and EMM accounts

An administrator needs access to the Knox Admin Portal and sufficient permissions to manage devices, profiles, and services. Your EMM tenant must already be able to accept Android Enterprise enrollment and must have the organization’s authentication method, users, and baseline policies ready. KME can trigger the EMM enrollment, but it cannot create an EMM tenant or replace its configuration.

For a reseller-based OOBE rollout, ask the reseller to upload the device identifiers to your Knox account before shipment. Devices normally appear in the portal for approval or profile assignment only after that upload. Agree on who will approve records, who will assign profiles, and how serial numbers or other identifiers will be reconciled with your purchase order.

  • SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
  • HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
  • BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
  • COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
  • INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.

Choose OOBE or QR before you build the profile

Out-of-box experience enrollment is intended for new or factory-reset devices uploaded by an authorized participating reseller. It is the practical choice for a large fleet because the profile can be assigned before boxes reach users.

QR enrollment is designed for eligible Samsung devices running Android 10 or later. It can be used for smaller deployments and for devices that were not uploaded by a reseller. The QR route enrolls the device into an EMM only; it does not use the same QR flow to add Knox E-FOTA or Knox Asset Intelligence. If those Knox cloud services are required in the enrollment profile, use the OOBE route and confirm device and license eligibility.

Understand Enterprise Edition services and licensing

KME itself can be used without a license. Samsung’s licensing guidance states that advanced profile settings require an active Knox Suite – Enterprise Plan and an available license seat. A profile can therefore exist and a device can begin enrollment while advanced functionality is unavailable; the device may receive restricted provisioning until the required plan and seat are in place.

Capability or term What Samsung’s guidance establishes Qualification
Basic Knox Mobile Enrollment Usable without a KME license Advanced profile functions are separate from basic enrollment.
Advanced KME profile settings Require an active Knox Suite – Enterprise Plan and an available seat Check seat availability before assigning a profile that uses advanced settings.
Enterprise Edition bundle Samsung describes a one-year Knox Suite – Enterprise Plan subscription with extensions available Offer, extension terms, and eligible models vary by country or region.
Security maintenance Up to seven years for supported Galaxy devices under Samsung’s cited 2024 policy “Up to” applies only to supported devices and the applicable policy.
Warranty Three years for Enterprise Edition devices launched in 2024 and after Confirm that the specific model and market meet the launch-date and regional conditions.
Sales lifecycle Two years measured from global launch This is a product-sales lifecycle statement, not a promise that every reseller holds stock for two years.

Do not treat the one-year subscription, security-maintenance period, warranty, or sales-lifecycle statement as identical for every Galaxy Enterprise Edition SKU. Verify the local offer and the exact model before committing a fleet purchase.

Create and assign an enrollment profile in Knox Admin Portal

The labels can change slightly as Samsung updates the portal, but the workflow is consistent: open the Knox Mobile Enrollment area, create a profile, select the management services, save it, and assign it to the device records.

  1. Sign in and open Knox Mobile Enrollment. Use an administrator account with profile and device-management permissions.
  2. Create a new enrollment profile. Give it a name that identifies the business unit, region, or device purpose. Clear names make later troubleshooting easier when several profiles exist.
  3. Select the EMM service. Enter the EMM information requested by the portal so the device can be directed to your organization’s tenant. Confirm that the tenant is the production or test environment you intend to use.
  4. Add optional Knox services. Select Knox Service Plugin where your EMM and device support it, and select other Knox services required by the deployment. The services available for selection depend on device, region, and licensing.
  5. Configure standard settings. Set the normal enrollment behavior, user interaction, and other options offered for the selected EMM. Keep the first profile as simple as your security policy allows; a smaller profile is easier to validate on a pilot device.
  6. Review advanced settings and licensing. If you enable advanced KME controls, confirm that the organization has an active Knox Suite – Enterprise Plan and an unused license seat. Without that entitlement, the device may enroll with restricted functionality.
  7. Review and create the profile. Check the EMM destination, selected Knox services, and any restrictions before saving. A profile change does not correct an incorrect EMM tenant, so verify the tenant details carefully.
  8. Assign the profile to devices. Select the uploaded device records and apply the profile. For a large shipment, use the portal’s available bulk-selection or grouping functions, then confirm that each record shows the intended assignment.

Profile assignment is separate from EMM authentication. A device can show that a profile is assigned while still waiting for the user to complete setup and sign in to the EMM.

Use OOBE enrollment for reseller-supplied fleets

OOBE is the recommended path for a large fleet bought through an authorized participating reseller. It moves the enrollment decision upstream: the reseller uploads the hardware, an administrator assigns the profile before shipment, and the user encounters the managed setup when the device is first powered on.

  1. Have the reseller upload the devices. Provide the Knox account details and confirm that the reseller has uploaded the correct identifiers for the shipment. Keep the purchase order, serial-number list, and Knox device list available for reconciliation.
  2. Approve or review uploaded records. Uploaded devices can appear as pending until an administrator approves them. Resolve duplicate, incorrect, or unexpected records before assigning a profile.
  3. Assign the enrollment profile before shipment. Select the profile that points to the correct EMM and includes only the Knox services required for this fleet. Record the assignment for audit purposes.
  4. Keep the device new or factory-reset. OOBE enrollment is a first-setup flow. A device that has already completed setup may need to be factory-reset before the automated enrollment screens appear. Back up any data before resetting.
  5. Power on and connect to Wi-Fi. The user starts the phone or tablet, chooses the language and region, and joins a network. The device contacts Samsung’s enrollment service and retrieves the assigned profile.
  6. Follow the managed setup screens. The user accepts the required prompts and supplies EMM credentials when requested. The exact screens depend on the selected EMM and profile settings.
  7. Allow the EMM to finish provisioning. Keep the device connected to power and a reliable network while applications, certificates, and policies arrive. Do not remove the work account or reset the device during this stage.
  8. Verify in both consoles. Confirm that the Knox record progresses beyond profile assignment and that the EMM shows the device as enrolled and compliant with its initial policy.

Samsung states that OOBE enrollment on Wi-Fi networks behind captive portals is supported for devices running Android 14 or later. Older Android versions or networks with nonstandard sign-in pages can interrupt setup; use an unrestricted onboarding network or complete the captive-portal requirement before expecting the EMM handoff to finish.

Use QR enrollment for eligible devices outside the reseller flow

QR enrollment is useful when devices were purchased through different channels, are already in your possession, or were not uploaded by a participating reseller. The device must be an eligible Samsung model running Android 10 or later, and you must have the QR code generated from the KME profile.

  1. Create or select an EMM-only profile. Because the KME QR flow enrolls into an EMM only, do not rely on it to enroll the device into Knox E-FOTA or Knox Asset Intelligence.
  2. Generate and protect the profile QR code. Display it on an administrator screen or provide it through a controlled deployment channel. Treat the code as an enrollment credential and limit who can access it.
  3. Start the device setup. Use a new or factory-reset supported Samsung device and begin the Android setup process.
  4. Open the QR reader from the Knox deployment flow. The location of the QR-reader option can vary by Android version and setup screen. Follow the managed-enrollment prompt rather than opening an ordinary camera application.
  5. Scan the KME profile code. The device reads the profile and applies its EMM enrollment instructions.
  6. Connect to Wi-Fi if necessary. If network details were not embedded in the code, join Wi-Fi when prompted. Use a network that allows the device to reach Samsung enrollment services and the EMM.
  7. Authenticate to the EMM and finish setup. Supply the requested organization credentials, wait for the EMM agent and policies to install, and verify the final state in both portals.

QR enrollment is not a shortcut around EMM preparation or licensing. It still needs a correctly configured EMM tenant, a supported model and Android version, and any licenses required by the profile’s advanced settings.

Check enrollment status in Knox and the EMM

Use the Knox Admin Portal device list as the source for the hardware-to-profile relationship, then use the EMM console to confirm that the device actually authenticated and received policy.

Knox status or condition Meaning Administrator action
Pending The reseller upload is awaiting approval. Verify the reseller upload and approve the correct records before assignment.
Unassigned The device is present but has no enrollment profile. Select the intended profile and assign it to the device.
Failed to assign The portal could not apply the selected profile. Check device eligibility, profile configuration, permissions, and licensing; correct the cause and retry.
Profile assigned A profile is attached, but the user has not completed enrollment. Complete OOBE or QR setup and check the EMM for authentication.
Restricted provisioning The device can continue with limited functionality because a required entitlement is missing or expired. Check the Enterprise Plan status, available seats, and advanced settings used by the assigned profile.

Also check the profile’s EMM auto-enrollment state. When it is on, OOBE enrollment into the assigned EMM is enabled. When it is off, a profile can exist without automatic EMM enrollment being enabled. This distinction explains why a device may show a profile assignment in Knox but never appear in the EMM.

Troubleshoot the failures that stop a rollout

The device never receives the profile

  • Confirm that the reseller uploaded the correct identifier and that the record is approved.
  • Check that the device is new or factory-reset for OOBE.
  • Verify that the profile was assigned to this specific record, not merely created.
  • Confirm the model and market are supported for KME and for the selected services.

The profile assignment fails

Start with the portal’s “Failed to assign” status. Review the profile for unsupported services, incorrect EMM information, and advanced options that exceed the organization’s license. Check that your administrator role permits device and profile actions. If the profile is intended for a different model family or region, create a compatible profile rather than repeatedly retrying the same assignment.

The user completes setup but the device is absent from the EMM

Check whether EMM auto-enrollment is on for the profile. Then verify network access, the EMM tenant information, and the user’s authentication. A device can complete the Samsung setup screens while EMM authentication is still waiting for credentials or blocked by a network filter. Review the EMM’s enrollment logs before resetting the device.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The device reports restricted provisioning

Open the organization’s Knox license view and verify that the Knox Suite – Enterprise Plan is active and has an available seat. Compare the assigned profile with the advanced settings it uses. If the plan expired or all seats are consumed, either restore entitlement or temporarily assign a profile that uses only functions your current license covers. Base KME enrollment may still proceed, but the advanced behavior will not be available until licensing is corrected.

QR setup cannot scan or connect

  • Confirm that the Samsung device runs Android 10 or later and is an eligible model.
  • Display the complete QR code at a readable size and brightness; avoid a cropped or compressed image.
  • Use the QR reader reached from the managed Knox deployment flow, not a general camera shortcut.
  • Join a Wi-Fi network that permits access to Samsung enrollment and your EMM.
  • Remember that QR enrollment is EMM-only; do not expect Knox E-FOTA or Knox Asset Intelligence enrollment from that scan.

Choose the right enrollment path and license level

Choice Best fit Boundary to plan for
OOBE enrollment Large fleets purchased through an authorized participating reseller Requires reseller upload, profile assignment, and a new or factory-reset device; Android 14 or later is required for the described captive-portal Wi-Fi support.
QR enrollment Smaller deployments or eligible devices not uploaded by a reseller Requires Android 10 or later on a supported device and enrolls into an EMM only.
Base KME Automatic EMM enrollment without advanced KME controls KME can be used without a license, but advanced profile functions are not included.
Knox Suite – Enterprise Plan Advanced profile settings and selected broader Knox capabilities An active plan and available seats are required; Enterprise Edition bundle and extension terms vary by region.

Operate the fleet after enrollment

Keep a repeatable handoff between procurement, the reseller, the Knox administrator, and the EMM team. For every shipment, reconcile the reseller’s identifier list with the Knox device list, record the assigned profile, and record the EMM enrollment result. This catches a wrong-SKU upload or a profile assigned to the wrong business unit before users receive devices.

Use separate profiles for materially different requirements, such as corporate phones, shared tablets, and rugged field devices. A profile should identify one EMM destination and a deliberate set of Knox services. Avoid creating a single profile with every optional service merely because the portal offers it; each service adds eligibility and licensing conditions that can complicate support.

For devices purchased from multiple locations, coordinate uploads through the same Knox account and require each reseller to identify the correct account and region before shipment. If a reseller cannot participate in KME, plan a QR deployment or another supported enrollment method instead of assuming that a purchase order alone will create a Knox record.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Finally, review license expiration and seat consumption as part of normal fleet operations. A device that enrolled successfully can later lose advanced functionality when the Enterprise Plan expires or seats are exhausted. Monitoring the Knox license view alongside the EMM’s compliance dashboard makes that change visible before it becomes a user-facing provisioning problem.

A practical rollout checklist

  • Exact model code, Android version, country, and Enterprise Edition eligibility verified.
  • EMM tenant configured and ready to authenticate Android Enterprise devices.
  • Knox administrator roles confirmed for devices, profiles, and services.
  • Enrollment route selected: OOBE for reseller-uploaded fleets or QR for eligible Android 10+ devices.
  • Reseller upload completed and device records approved when using OOBE.
  • Profile points to the correct EMM and contains only required Knox services.
  • Knox Suite – Enterprise Plan and license seats checked for advanced settings.
  • Profile assigned to the intended devices before shipment or setup.
  • Pilot device completes Wi-Fi, EMM authentication, and policy installation.
  • Knox and EMM statuses recorded for the production rollout.
