When you enable push notifications, treat the result as permission for Pokémon GO to send app alerts in general. Do not infer that a particular switch is a GO Battle League alert toggle: no dedicated battle-event control is documented in the cited material.

What Pokémon GO actually documents about notification controls
No verified battle-only notification switch
The available official material does not verify a setting named for GO Battle League notifications, battle-event alerts, or battle-only push messages. Pokémon GO’s support index lists Events and Battling & GO Battle League as separate help topics, but the index does not define a control that connects them. The event announcement recommends general update channels instead.
That distinction matters when troubleshooting. The documented Pokédex alert is a different feature
Pokémon GO Help Center guidance documents a Pokédex alert for one previously seen Pokémon. To use that alert, Adventure Sync and Pokémon GO push notifications must be enabled in the Notifications section of Settings. This feature concerns a selected Pokémon, not an upcoming battle event.
