To download an eligible PlayStation Plus game on PS5, open Games home > PlayStation Plus > Benefits > Game Catalog, select a title, and choose Download. To make room, use Settings > Storage to delete or move game installations. Installed games, saved data, and PlayStation Plus cloud storage are separate: deleting a game does not delete its entitlement, and cloud storage holds saves—not game files.
Download a PlayStation Plus game on PS5
- Check that your PlayStation Plus plan includes the title. Catalog access and streaming eligibility vary by game and can change; check the current listing on your console.
- From Games home, open PlayStation Plus > Benefits > Game Catalog.
- Select an eligible game and choose Download. The game installs to console storage or compatible M.2 storage, subject to available space.
Sony’s guide also describes streaming eligible games with the appropriate plan and a broadband connection. Its current support guidance states a minimum connection speed of 5 Mbps for streaming and 15 Mbps for supported 1080p streaming; these are vendor-stated requirements, not a guarantee of performance. Check storage and clear space
See what is using space at Settings > Storage. To remove an installation, go to Settings > Storage > Console Storage > Games and Apps, select the game or app, and choose Delete. If Customize appears, the console may let you remove selected game data, such as unused add-ons, without deleting everything.

There is no universal free-space buffer established for all PS5 games: a download, installation, and later update may have different space needs. Check the console’s available storage and the game’s current requirements rather than relying on a fixed buffer figure.
Choose a storage option for games

USB extended storage is useful as an archive for PS5 games, not as a place to launch them from. Sony’s support guidance says PS5 game data must be copied back to console storage when you want to play. USB extended storage on PlayStation 5 consoles. Protect and transfer saved data
Before deleting saved data, make sure you have a copy if you need one. PlayStation Plus cloud storage is separate from game installations. Sony’s current support page states limits of 100 GB each for PS5 and PS4 saved data, plus a 1,000-file limit for PS4 saved data; the page does not give a publication year for those limits. - On PS5, open Settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings.
- Choose Saved Data (PS5) or Saved Data (PS4), then use the upload or download options to move saves between the console and cloud storage.
- For PS5 saves, configure automatic sync in the saved-data settings if you want the console to sync them. PS4 saves are automatically uploaded according to Sony’s guide, but must be manually downloaded to PS5 console storage.
Streaming and downloading handle saves differently. A save for a streamed PlayStation Plus game is stored by PlayStation; a save for a downloaded game is stored on the console. They do not automatically transfer between streamed and downloaded versions. Use cloud storage to upload and download the save when switching between those game types. Start a download from the PlayStation App
The PlayStation App can start a download to a linked PS5. The console needs to be set up for remote downloads, and whether a download begins can depend on console connection and automatic-download settings. See Sony’s instructions for downloading games from the PlayStation App.
