In Kraken Futures, review Open Orders and Conditional Orders separately, edit only price or quantity on eligible orders, cancel and resubmit when the order type or trigger must change, and close a position by placing an opposite-side order. Use reduce-only for a protective exit, and treat every trigger as an instruction to submit an order—not a promise of a fill at that price.
Where Kraken Futures keeps your outstanding orders
The trading interface separates ordinary resting orders from conditional exits. A limit order waiting on the order book normally appears in Open Orders. Stop-loss, take-profit and other trigger-based instructions appear in Conditional Orders. Checking only one section can make an account look clear when an exit order is still active in the other.

| What you are looking for | Where to check | What it represents |
|---|---|---|
| Unfilled or partially filled limit order | Open Orders | An order waiting for execution, with any unfilled remainder still active |
| Stop-loss or take-profit order | Conditional Orders | An instruction that becomes an order after its selected trigger condition is reached |
| Open long or short contract exposure | Positions view | The quantity currently held, rather than an order waiting to execute |
Labels and placement can differ between the web interface, single-collateral derivatives, multi-collateral derivatives and the Kraken Pro app. The underlying distinction remains the same: reconcile both order sections, then inspect Positions separately.

Single-collateral derivatives
- Open the Kraken Futures or derivatives trading screen and select the relevant contract.
- Open the Open Orders section to see resting limit orders. Review side, quantity, price and any filled amount before changing anything.
- Open Conditional Orders to find stop-loss, take-profit and other trigger orders.
- Switch to Positions to confirm whether the account also has an active long or short exposure.
A partially filled order remains an order until its remaining quantity is filled or canceled. The filled portion may already have changed your position, so check the position quantity before trying to close anything.

Multi-collateral derivatives
The multi-collateral web interface also provides Open Orders and Conditional Orders. Use the same two-tab reconciliation, then compare the result with the position panel. Do not assume that a visible conditional order has already reduced exposure: it may still be waiting for its trigger or for available liquidity after triggering.
Kraken Pro app
In the Kraken Pro app, open the derivatives trading view and use its order-management area to review open and conditional orders. App labels and layout may not match the web screen exactly. If an order appears to be missing, check both categories and the selected contract before creating a replacement; otherwise, you could leave the original order active and create a duplicate.
Edit an order without losing control of its behavior
Unfilled and partially filled orders can be edited. For an open limit or trigger order, the documented editable fields are:
- Price for a limit order, or trigger price for a conditional order.
- Quantity, subject to the amount that remains unfilled and current account conditions.
Use the edit control on the order row, change the permitted value, review the resulting quantity and price, and confirm. For a partially filled order, the quantity you can change is the remaining unfilled amount, not the amount already executed.
When editing is not enough
Editing does not generally change an order’s type or trigger signal. If you need to turn a limit order into a market order, change a stop to a different order type, or switch between mark price, last price and index price as the trigger reference, cancel the existing order and submit a new one with the desired settings.
This cancel-and-resubmit sequence briefly removes the original order. During that interval the market can move, and a replacement may receive a different queue position or fill. Confirm that the old row is gone before assuming the new order is the only active instruction.

Why a price edit can execute immediately
Changing a limit price changes its relationship to the current order book. A revised price can become marketable and execute at once. If post-only is enabled, the revised order can instead be rejected or canceled because it would take liquidity rather than rest on the book. Review the post-only setting and the live market before confirming a price change.
Cancel one order or every order
Cancel a single order
- Locate the order in Open Orders or Conditional Orders.
- Use the cancel control on that row.
- Refresh or recheck the list and confirm that the order no longer appears as active.
Canceling an order removes only its unfilled remainder. Any quantity that already filled remains part of the account’s trading result and may be reflected in Positions.
Cancel all
The trading interface also provides a Cancel All control. Treat it as an immediate bulk action: it can remove multiple working orders across the selected contract or trading view. After using it, verify both order sections and inspect Positions. A position is not closed merely because its associated orders were canceled.
Choose the control that matches the job
| Control | What it does | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Market order | Attempts to execute immediately against available liquidity | The eventual price and complete fill are not guaranteed; execution can be partial or absent under the platform’s protections |
| Limit order | Specifies the price at which you are willing to buy or sell and can rest in Open Orders | It may remain unfilled, and changing its price can make it execute immediately |
| Reduce-only | Allows execution only when it reduces an existing position | It does not guarantee a fill. An order larger than the position is automatically reduced to the position size |
| Post-only | Requires a limit order to add liquidity rather than execute immediately | The order is canceled or rejected if it would trade at once |
| Immediate-or-cancel (IOC) | Executes immediately against available quantity and cancels any remainder | Any quantity not available at once does not remain on the book |
| Conditional trigger | Waits for a selected reference price before submitting the configured order | Triggering is not the same as a guaranteed fill or guaranteed trigger-price execution |
Trigger choices can include mark price, last price and index price; the available choices depend on the order type. Mark price is also used to value positions and determine liquidations, so a stop based on mark price can activate at a different moment from one based on the last traded price.
Close or reduce an open position
Futures positions are closed from the opposite direction. A sell reduces a long; a buy reduces a short. The position panel provides a way to start a market or limit close without manually rebuilding every order parameter.
Recommended Free Tools
Full close
- Open Positions and select the position you want to exit.
- Choose the close action and select a market or limit execution method.
- Use the opposite side: Sell for a long or Buy for a short.
- Enter the current position quantity for a full close. If the position has changed since you opened the ticket, update the quantity to the amount currently shown.
- Enable Reduce-only when the interface offers it, review the order and submit.
- Check the resulting position quantity and the order list. A limit close can remain in Open Orders if it does not fill immediately.
Partial reduction
Enter less than the current position quantity. For example, if a long contains 2 contracts, a reduce-only sell for 0.8 contracts leaves approximately 1.2 contracts after a complete fill. If a short contains 5 contracts, a reduce-only buy for 2 contracts leaves approximately 3 contracts. The exact result depends on fills, contract rules and any quantity precision required by the selected market.

Submitting an opposite-side order without reduce-only can add exposure after the position is closed or can reverse it if the order is larger than the position. Reduce-only prevents that type of increase by limiting execution to position reduction, but it cannot force a fill when there is insufficient liquidity, margin or another execution constraint.
Market close versus limit close
- Market close: prioritizes an immediate attempt to exit, but the execution price can vary and the fill may be partial.
- Limit close: gives price control and can rest on the book, but the position can remain open while the order waits.
After either method, look at the live position rather than relying on the submitted quantity. A trigger, IOC remainder, rejection or partial fill can leave a different quantity than the ticket originally displayed.
Set take-profit and stop-loss bracket exits
Kraken’s bracket feature lets you attach a take-profit and/or stop-loss to a primary market or limit order. It can also be applied to an existing position. This is useful when the entry already exists and you need to define an exit without creating an unrelated manual order.
Create a bracket with a new primary order
- Open the order ticket for the primary market or limit order.
- Enable the take-profit, stop-loss or bracket option.
- Enter the relevant trigger prices and choose the execution settings offered for each exit.
- Choose whether the exit covers the entire position or only a specified portion when advanced settings are available.
- Review the side and quantity: a long position normally exits with a sell, while a short exits with a buy.
- Submit the primary order and confirm that the associated conditional orders appear in Conditional Orders.
Apply TP/SL to an existing position
- Open the position-management action for the existing long or short.
- Choose the TP/SL or bracket option.
- Select an entire-position exit or configure a partial quantity in the advanced settings.
- Set the trigger reference and prices offered by the ticket, then submit.
- Return to Conditional Orders and verify the exit quantity, side and trigger settings.
Understand OCO behavior
When both a take-profit and a stop-loss are set in the bracket, triggering one automatically cancels the other. This one-cancels-the-other behavior prevents the paired exit from remaining active after the position has been closed by its counterpart. It does not eliminate the possibility of a partial fill or an unfilled remainder, so check the position and order lists after the trigger event.
Restriction involving reduce-only primaries
A primary order with reduce-only enabled cannot have TP/SL added through this bracket feature. If you need a protected reduction, create the reduce-only close and the conditional exit separately where the interface permits it, then verify that the combined quantities cannot exceed the position you intend to reduce.
Why a triggered exit may not fill at the displayed price
A trigger is an activation condition, not a guaranteed execution price. Once activated, the resulting market or limit order still depends on available liquidity, account status and the order’s execution protections. Kraken’s derivatives documentation identifies partial fills and no fill as possible outcomes, and insufficient margin can cause a triggered order to be rejected.

- A fast market can move beyond a stop’s trigger before a fill is available.
- A limit-based exit can trigger and then remain in Open Orders while waiting for its limit price.
- An order can fill only partly, leaving both a residual position and a remaining order quantity.
- A margin or account-condition failure can prevent the triggered order from being accepted.
After any suspected trigger, inspect all three places: the position quantity, Open Orders and Conditional Orders. This tells you whether the exit filled, is resting as a new order, was canceled by OCO behavior or failed to execute.

A practical reconciliation routine
Use this sequence whenever you open the platform, modify an order or respond to a price move:
- Identify the contract and collateral mode. Confirm that the selected market is the one whose position you intend to manage and note whether you are in the single-collateral or multi-collateral derivatives view.
- Inventory active instructions. Read Open Orders and Conditional Orders, including partially filled quantities.
- Inventory exposure. Record the current side and position quantity before submitting an opposite-side order.
- Decide whether to edit or replace. Edit price, trigger price or quantity when those are the only changes. Cancel and resubmit for a different order type or trigger signal.
- Protect the direction. For an exit, use the opposite side and enable reduce-only when appropriate.
- Submit once and verify. Recheck the order row, conditional settings and position quantity rather than assuming the confirmation dialog equals a fill.
- After a fill or trigger, reconcile again. Remove stale instructions and confirm whether any remainder is still exposed.
Troubleshooting common management problems
“My order is missing.”
Check whether it is a normal limit order in Open Orders or a trigger order in Conditional Orders. Confirm the contract, account mode and app or web view. If it filled, it will no longer be an open order; inspect Positions and recent activity instead.
“The edit was rejected.”
Confirm that the order is still active, that the requested quantity applies to its unfilled remainder and that the new price meets the market’s rules. A post-only order can be rejected when the revised price would execute immediately. If you are trying to change type or trigger signal, cancel and submit a new order rather than repeatedly editing the existing one.
“My close order increased or reversed my position.”
The order was likely submitted without reduce-only, or its quantity exceeded the exposure you meant to close. Check the current position, then use an opposite-side reduce-only order for only the remaining quantity. An oversized reduce-only order is constrained to the position size, but ordinary opposite-side orders can add exposure.
“The stop triggered but I still have a position.”
Look for a partial fill, a limit order waiting in Open Orders, insufficient margin, or a rejection caused by execution protections. If both TP and SL were configured, one may have been canceled automatically when the other triggered. Do not create a duplicate exit until you know which quantity, if any, remains active.
Best Value
“Cancel All did not close my position.”
Cancel All removes working orders; it does not flatten an existing position. Use the position’s close action and submit the opposite-side order, then verify the resulting quantity.
Examples of safe quantity logic
Closing a long completely
The Positions view shows a long of 1.5 contracts. A sell for 1.5 contracts, marked reduce-only, is intended to close the full amount. If only 1.0 fills, the position remains long 0.5 and the unfilled remainder must be handled according to the order type you selected.
Taking partial profit while retaining exposure
The position is long 4 contracts and you want to reduce half. A reduce-only sell for 2 contracts targets a partial exit. A separate conditional order can protect the remaining quantity, but its quantity should be checked against the live position after the partial fill.
Protecting a short with a bracket
The position is short 3 contracts. The exit side is buy. A bracket configured for the entire position uses a buy-side take-profit and buy-side stop-loss, with one canceling the other after a trigger. A partial bracket can cover fewer than 3 contracts, leaving the balance exposed to whatever other management instructions are active.
Final checks before you leave the screen
- Open Orders contains only the resting orders you still intend to keep.
- Conditional Orders contains only the triggers you recognize, with the correct reference price and quantity.
- Every intended close uses the opposite side of the position.
- Reduce-only is enabled for protective reductions where available.
- Position size matches your expectation after accounting for partial fills.
- You understand whether a limit order can wait, an IOC order can cancel its remainder, or a post-only order can be rejected.
- You have not assumed that a trigger price guarantees an execution price or a complete fill.
Managing Kraken Futures positions is therefore a reconciliation task as much as an order-entry task: identify every active instruction, choose the control that matches the desired execution, and verify the actual position after each change.
