Skip and Instacart use different labels and workflows. Skip documents adding a replacement card during checkout, while Instacart provides an Add control under Payment methods. Payment-method availability, notification categories, and menu names can vary by platform, market, store, browser, or app version, so use the current settings page when a label differs slightly.

Understand the two kinds of notifications before changing anything
Both services send transactional messages about an order and promotional messages intended to advertise offers or encourage future orders. Those categories are controlled differently, and disabling the wrong switch can hide information you still need.

Before changing a setting, decide whether you want fewer advertisements, fewer delivery interruptions, or no alerts at all. For most people, the correct choice is to keep order updates enabled and turn off only promotional categories.

Manage Skip notifications
Enable or disable Skip promotional push messages
- Open the Skip app and sign in.
- Open Profile.
- Choose Account Settings.
- Open Notification Settings.
- Under Network and Promotions, set Push Notifications to Yes to receive promotional push messages, or change that setting if you do not want them.
This in-app setting addresses the promotional category. It is separate from the permission that your phone or tablet gives the Skip app to display push notifications.
Turn off all Skip app push alerts without deleting your account
Skip’s privacy policy says app push permission is controlled in the phone or tablet’s system settings. Disabling that operating-system permission stops Skip push delivery, including push updates about orders. Use this broad switch only when you accept that trade-off.
On iOS or Android, open the device’s Settings app, find the notifications section, select Skip, and change its permission. The exact labels differ by operating-system version. If you want order updates, leave the device-level permission enabled and adjust the promotional setting inside Skip instead.

Stop Skip marketing email or text messages
For marketing email, use the unsubscribe control in the message. For promotional SMS or MMS, reply STOP when the message supports that command. Skip treats important account or platform changes separately, so opting out of marketing does not necessarily suppress service-critical notices.
Allow a short period for a marketing preference to propagate. Messages already queued may arrive after you change the setting. If a message is clearly an order notice rather than an advertisement, do not use its unsubscribe link to solve a delivery-alert problem; adjust the order or push category instead.
Remove or replace a saved payment method on Skip
In the Skip app
- Sign in to the Skip app.
- Tap the Profile icon.
- Tap the gear beside Your Account.
- Select Saved Cards.
- Swipe left on the card you want to remove and confirm the deletion if prompted.
On the Skip website
- Sign in and open the menu that displays your account name.
- Select View Account.
- Open Payment Options.
- Click the X beside the saved card you want to remove.
Add a replacement card
Skip’s FAQ documents adding a new card at checkout when you place an order. It does not describe a separate add-card button in the Saved Cards section. If you are replacing an expired or compromised card, remove the old entry using the app or website path above, then add the replacement during checkout.
Before deleting the old card, check whether an order is currently being prepared or whether you have a pending charge. Removing a saved entry does not by itself explain or reverse a transaction already authorized for an order. For an active order, first verify its status and payment details, then contact Skip support if you need the payment method changed.

Skip lists major card brands, co-branded debit cards, Skip gift cards, Apple Pay on iOS, and Google Pay on Android among accepted payment types. Availability can depend on the platform and the particular card. If a method does not appear at checkout, try the other supported payment surface or use a listed alternative.
What to do when a Skip payment fails
A failed payment does not automatically identify whether the problem is the card, the account, the network, or the bank. Skip’s FAQ recommends checking the following items:
- Confirm that the card number, security details, and expiry date were entered correctly.
- Check whether the card has expired or been replaced by the issuer.
- Verify that your phone or computer has a reliable internet connection.
- Try completing the order on the other Skip surface: use the website if the app failed, or the app if the website failed.
- Ask your bank or card provider whether it declined the transaction or placed a security hold on it.
Do not repeatedly submit an order while you are unsure whether the first attempt succeeded. Check the order status and your bank activity first, then contact Skip support if the status remains unclear.
If the bank shows a pending authorization but Skip shows no confirmed order, keep the receipt or authorization details available when contacting support. A pending entry is not the same as a completed charge, and only Skip or the card issuer can clarify the final status for that transaction.

Skip’s account-security guidance says that the first four and last four digits of a payment-card number are visible in account settings, while Skip says it does not hold or store additional payment information on its site or in the app. That statement describes the information Skip identifies in its own account interface; it is not a guarantee about every payment processor or every form of payment data handling.
Skip also states that it will never charge a credit card or other online payment method without your consent. If you notice unusual activity, change your Skip password immediately, contact Skip support, and contact the financial institution or card provider. Review saved cards and recent orders so that an unfamiliar method or transaction is not left active.
Manage Instacart notifications
Change notification categories in the Instacart app
- Open the Instacart app and sign in.
- Open Account.
- Choose Settings.
- Tap Notifications.
- Select the notification types you want to receive and turn off categories you do not need.
Instacart’s order-update alerts can include information about replacements and refunds. If you turn off all order-update notifications, you will no longer receive those status alerts through the affected channel.

Change notification settings on the Instacart website
- Sign in and open the account menu.
- Select Your account settings.
- Open Notification settings.
- Choose the order, promotional, email, or other categories shown for your account.
Keep order updates enabled if you need to know whether an item was replaced, refunded, or otherwise changed while the order is being prepared. You can usually reduce marketing without touching that order-update category.

Instacart separates marketing email, SMS marketing, and promotional push from order notices. Adjust email marketing in notification preferences. U.S. customers can opt in or out of SMS marketing during checkout, and replying STOP to a marketing text opts out of those messages where supported.
Browser push permission is controlled by the browser as well as by Instacart’s account settings. If promotional alerts continue after changing the account preference, open the browser’s site-notification settings and revoke push permission for Instacart. Remember that browser permission affects browser-delivered alerts, not necessarily email or SMS.
Unsubscribing from marketing emails does not stop order-confirmation emails. Instacart states that you will still receive order confirmation emails even after unsubscribing from marketing email. This is useful when you want a receipt and confirmation but do not want sale announcements.
Add or remove saved payment methods on Instacart
On the Instacart website
- Sign in and open the menu.
- Go to Your account settings.
- Select Payment methods.
- To add a method, choose Add beside an available payment type and enter the requested information.
- To remove a method, choose Delete beside it and confirm.
In the Instacart app
- Open Account.
- Tap Settings.
- Open Payment methods.
- Use the add control to enter a new method.
- To remove a saved card, open the payment-method controls, tap the edit or pencil control, select the red circle beside the card, and tap Delete.
Correct incorrect card details
Instacart says a previously entered payment method cannot simply be edited in place. If the number, expiry, billing details, or other information is wrong, remove the old method and add it again with the corrected information. Recheck every digit before saving, especially when replacing a card after an issuer update.

Payment methods and eligibility
Instacart’s current payment guidance lists major U.S. and Canadian credit and debit cards, Apple Pay, Cash App, EBT at participating stores in select states, FSA and HSA cards, Google Pay, Instacart gift cards, Klarna, PayPal, the OTC Network card, and Venmo. The list is not a promise that every method will appear for every customer.
Eligibility can vary by market, store, order type, product, and subscription. PayPal, Venmo, and Cash App have different geographic, product, and subscription restrictions. Some payment methods cannot be used for hemp-based CBD or THC items. If a method shown in general help is unavailable in your checkout, consult Instacart’s current payment-help page for the specific market and order.

For EBT, FSA, HSA, OTC Network, or other restricted methods, the participating-store requirement matters as much as the card itself. A method may be saved successfully yet unavailable for a particular retailer, item category, fee, or subscription charge. Keep an eligible backup method available when the order contains mixed products or when a membership renewal is due.
Change the preferred payment method for Instacart+
The payment method used for an Instacart+ membership is a separate control from the methods available for ordinary checkout orders.
- Open the Instacart account area.
- Select Instacart+ membership.
- Choose Change under Preferred payment method.
- Select a saved method or add a new one.
- Confirm the change.
Changing a checkout card does not necessarily change the preferred method for the membership. Review both areas when you are replacing a card that pays for the subscription and also appears in the general payment list. Do this before the next renewal rather than waiting for a failed membership charge.

Troubleshooting when a setting or payment method is missing
The menu label is different
Use the account and settings areas named above as the route, but allow for minor wording changes between the app, website, operating-system version, and market. Update the app, sign out and back in, and check the website if a control is not visible in the app.
A deleted card still appears
Refresh the payment-method page, close and reopen the app, and verify that you are signed in to the intended account. Do not assume that a card displayed as a masked number is still usable; attempt a controlled checkout only after confirming the old method is removed or unavailable.
A new payment method cannot be used
Check the method’s eligibility for your market, store, order type, subscription, and product. Instacart’s method-specific restrictions and Skip’s platform-specific support mean that a card or wallet can be accepted in one context but not offered in another.
Promotional messages continue
Check every channel separately: the service’s marketing preference, your phone’s app-notification permission, your browser’s push permission, and any SMS or email unsubscribe control. A change in one channel does not necessarily change the others. Also check whether the message is actually an order confirmation or account notice, which may continue by design.
You stopped receiving order updates
Re-enable the relevant order-update category in the service settings and restore device or browser notification permission. For Skip, device-level push permission affects order alerts; for Instacart, turning off order updates can remove information about replacements and refunds. Email confirmations may still arrive even when push is disabled, depending on your account preferences.
A safe order for changing both settings
- Finish or verify any active order before removing its payment method.
- Save a replacement method first where the service permits it; on Skip, prepare to add it during checkout.
- Remove the obsolete or compromised method.
- Check the membership preference separately if you have Instacart+.
- Disable only promotional channels unless you intentionally want to stop transactional alerts.
- Place a future order only after confirming the intended payment method and notification categories.
Frequently overlooked details
- Push is not the same as email. Turning off phone push does not automatically unsubscribe marketing email, and unsubscribing email does not revoke browser or SMS permissions.
- Order notices can contain financial information. Replacement, refund, and confirmation messages help you verify what was actually charged, so retaining those alerts can make disputes easier to identify.
- Deleting a card is not account deletion. You can remove a saved credential while keeping the account and its order history.
- Wallet support is platform-specific. Skip identifies Apple Pay on iOS and Google Pay on Android; a wallet shown on one device may not appear on another.
- Membership billing needs a second check. Instacart+ has its own preferred-payment control, so a general checkout change may leave renewal billing untouched.
