Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteThe reliable way to keep farming runs profitable in ARC Raiders is to enter with a specific quest, recipe, or workshop objective, reserve space for those materials, and treat every other pickup as conditional. Use field crafting or field recycling only when the immediate benefit beats the value of carrying the item home. After extraction, unload eligible resources, merge partial stacks, check your next objective, and clear surplus before the next raid.
Start every material run with a goal
Inventory space is easiest to manage before you leave Speranza. Open your active quests, workshop projects, and the recipes you are currently pursuing. Write down the materials that directly advance one of those goals, then make room for them before dropping Topside.

This prevents the most common stash problem: bringing back a backpack full of items that might be useful someday while having no room for the component you actually need. A material needed for an active objective has a clear opportunity cost; an unplanned common component usually does not.

- Required now: Items named by an active quest, weapon-stock project, workbench upgrade, or recipe you intend to complete soon.
- Protective reserve: Rare or inconvenient-to-farm components that you would regret losing and that are likely to support a near-term objective.
- Opportunistic loot: Common materials, duplicate items, and equipment with no current use. Take these only after the first two groups have space.
Do not treat a community keep list as an official rule. Item uses, recipes, and balance can change, so open the current in-game item details before selling or recycling anything unfamiliar.

Prepare the backpack before deployment
Look at the space you are taking into the raid, not only the capacity you hope to have after looting. Remove duplicate gear, unnecessary ammunition, and consumables that are not part of the run’s plan. The goal is not to deploy empty at any cost; essential survival equipment still has priority. It is to avoid spending several slots on supplies that do not support the route or objective.
Choose one primary material target and, at most, a small secondary target that shares the same route. If you are collecting parts for a workbench upgrade, do not let a tempting cash run quietly become a hunt for unrelated crafting components. A narrow target also makes it easier to recognize when the run is complete and extract before incidental loot consumes every slot.
How field crafting and field recycling save space
Embark’s Help Center describes Field Crafting as combining resources collected Topside to create improvised items during a raid. To open it, go to your inventory and select the Crafting tab. The recipe view can be filtered to show what you can make from the materials you currently hold.
Recommended Free Tools
“To open the field crafting menu, head into your inventory and select the Crafting tab.” — Embark Studios Help Center, “Field crafting,” last updated October 27, 2025.
Field Recycling works from an item’s details menu and breaks the item down immediately. The same Help Center states: “Field Recycling lets you break down items instantly.” These are mechanics, not a universal recommendation to craft or recycle everything you can.
When field crafting is sensible
- The crafted item gives immediate raid utility, such as survival or extraction value.
- Its inputs are common or already surplus to your next objective.
- The finished item occupies no more space than the ingredients, or its utility justifies the space it uses.
- You have checked the current recipe and know you will not need those inputs for a higher-priority project.
Crafting can save space only in specific recipes. Some combinations turn several stackable materials into an item that takes a separate slot, so compare the before-and-after footprint instead of assuming that a recipe is automatically efficient.
When field recycling is sensible
- Your backpack is full and the salvage is more valuable than carrying the original item out.
- The item has no role in an active quest, upgrade, or planned recipe.
- You need one open slot for a rare target component or an extraction-critical item.
Recycling in the field is an emergency space decision as much as an economy decision. If a full backpack is not threatening the run, bringing the item home may give you a better recycling outcome or more flexibility. The exact yield is item-specific and can differ between a raid and Speranza, so verify the current item details and recipe data.
Do not process automatically
A recipe appearing in the Crafting tab does not mean it is the best use of the materials in your hands. Before pressing craft, ask whether the item solves a problem in this raid and whether the ingredients are harder to replace than the finished item. Before recycling, ask whether the salvage is worth more than the option to sell, use, or save the original. This pause is especially important for rare components that look like ordinary loot until a later project calls for them.
A practical decision rule for every pickup
When your backpack fills, evaluate each candidate item in the same order. This makes the choice repeatable instead of emotional.

- Does it advance an active objective? Keep it if the answer is yes, unless you already hold the required amount.
- How difficult is it to replace? Protect rare or location-specific components before common farmable materials.
- What is its immediate raid utility? A consumable or tool that keeps you alive can be worth more than its recycling value during the current run.
- What happens to the space after processing? Check whether crafting creates a compact item, consumes a whole stack, or produces a new non-stackable object.
- What is the current sale or recycling value? Use the item details and current economy rather than a remembered ranking from an older guide.
| Situation | Default action | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Needed for an active quest or upgrade | Keep and protect | It directly advances your current goal and may be inconvenient to replace. |
| Rare component with no immediate use | Keep a modest reserve | Replacement risk is higher, but unlimited hoarding still consumes stash space. |
| Common material above your near-term plan | Sell or otherwise clear excess after checking its uses | These items are usually easier to farm again. |
| Unneeded item while one backpack slot is essential | Field recycle if the salvage is worthwhile | Immediate capacity can be more valuable than carrying the item home. |
| Useful item with no urgent space pressure | Extract and process at Speranza | Home processing may provide a different yield or more choices. |
Use a tie-breaker when two items compete
If two pickups appear equally useful, favor the one that is less reversible. Keeping a rare component preserves future options; discarding a common material is usually recoverable on another run. Likewise, keep an item needed for a confirmed objective over an item that merely sells for a little more, unless the objective is already fully supplied. This approach protects progression without turning every uncertain item into a permanent stash resident.
How much of each material should you keep?
There is no official universal quantity that fits every material or player. Your reserve should equal the amount required by known objectives plus a modest buffer for the next few crafts, then be reassessed when the objective is complete. A player pursuing a workbench upgrade needs a different reserve from someone farming a weapon-stock project or simply building cash.

Use objective-based reserves
- Record the exact quantity named by your current quest, recipe, or upgrade.
- Add a small near-term buffer rather than filling every available slot.
- Stop collecting that category when the objective and buffer are covered.
- After completion, remove the old reserve from your mental “must keep” list and reassess it against the next goal.
Common materials that appear frequently can be handled flexibly. Rare components, items tied to progression, and anything with a difficult farming route deserve more protection. This is a planning framework, not a tested inventory formula.
Two community benchmarks, clearly labeled as opinions
A community guide updated October 4, 2026 suggests keeping 20–30 Steel Springs and Wires, then selling common-material excess above immediate needs and delaying recycling until Speranza when feasible. Those quantities are that guide’s proposed system, not an Embark limit or an optimal number proven for every account.
Another community guide uses one stack of important materials as a baseline, increasing the reserve while actively pursuing a weapon-stock or workbench-upgrade goal. It also recommends grouping the stash to merge partial stacks. Both ideas are useful starting points, but current recipes and your own objectives should override them.
These benchmarks are most useful as prompts for a review, not as quotas. If a project requires more than one stack, hold the documented requirement and a reasonable buffer. If you have completed the project, continuing to hold the old target can crowd out materials for the next one. Recheck after patches, because recipes, drop rates, and item uses can change.
Organize the stash after every extraction
Do not wait until the stash is completely full. A short reset after each successful run keeps the next drop intentional.
- Unload eligible resources. PC Gamer has reported an end-of-match auto-unload backpack option that moves resources into the stash while skipping weapons, ammunition, and quick-slot consumables. The article is secondary coverage, and interfaces can change, so confirm the option on the current post-match screen.
- Merge partial stacks. Use the stash grouping or merge control to combine incomplete stacks where the current interface allows it.
- Check objective quantities. Compare what you now hold with active quest, upgrade, and recipe requirements.
- Separate protected items from surplus. Keep required and rare components together; mark common excess for sale or another approved disposal route.
- Choose the processing location. If there is no immediate capacity problem, bring items to Speranza for the home recycling or sale choice. Recycle in the field only when the open slot has greater value during that raid.
- Leave deliberate empty capacity. A completely packed stash forces bad decisions on the next run. Keep enough room for the goal you are about to farm.
Why partial stacks matter
Several half-filled stacks can consume more usable capacity than one consolidated stack, especially when you are farming a wide mix of materials. Grouping does not create resources; it simply puts the same quantity into fewer occupied slots, making the next extraction less likely to force a premature discard.
Label the reason for a reserve
When the interface allows grouping or personal organization, keep objective materials together and separate them from sellable overflow. A simple mental label such as “next workbench,” “active quest,” or “rare buffer” prevents accidental disposal. At the next reset, remove a label as soon as its project is complete. The point is not decoration; it is making every protected slot explainable.

What to sell, recycle, craft, or keep
There is no single permanent ranking because the right action depends on your current project and the item’s present recipe. Use this comparison before disposing of anything:
| Option | Choose it when | Check first |
|---|---|---|
| Keep | The item is required soon, rare, or expensive to replace. | Current quest text, upgrade requirements, and recipe uses. |
| Craft | Immediate utility outweighs the future value of the ingredients. | Ingredient footprint versus finished-item footprint. |
| Field recycle | You need a slot now and the item has no higher-priority use. | Expected salvage and whether home recycling differs. |
| Recycle at Speranza | You can safely extract and want the home-processing route. | Item-specific yield and current build behavior. |
| Sell | The item is common, above your planned reserve, and has no needed recipe use. | Its current coin value and whether a near-term objective consumes it. |
When two choices look close, favor reversibility. Keeping a rare component preserves future options; selling a common excess item is easier to recover from because it can usually be farmed again.
Apply the rule to incidental gear
Weapons, ammunition, and quick-slot consumables deserve a separate check because the reported auto-unload function may skip them. Do not assume an auto-unload has emptied every category. Review those items manually, decide which loadout they support, and move or dispose of duplicates before deploying again. A resource-only cleanup can leave the stash apparently organized while equipment still consumes the space you need for materials.
Expedition rewards and long-term stash capacity
Stash management is not only about discarding loot. Embark’s February 5, 2026 article, “Preparing for your second Expedition,” described additional permanent stash spaces as a reward for continued departures: 12 to 24 stash spaces, alongside a Scrappy materials boost from 6% to 12% for consecutive Expedition departures.
Those figures describe that dated second-Expedition reward presentation, not a permanent promise for every future Expedition. Embark warned that reward requirements can change. Check the current official Expedition information before planning your long-term capacity around those values.

Plan around progression, not just today’s backpack
- Prioritize the materials needed to reach an upcoming progression milestone.
- Do not sacrifice a rare objective item merely to preserve a low-value common stack.
- Revisit your reserve policy after an Expedition or workshop upgrade changes your storage situation.
An expanded stash should improve flexibility, not justify keeping every low-value pickup. More space is most useful when it is divided deliberately among active projects, rare buffers, and room for the next farming run.

Keeping everything “just in case”
Symptom: The stash is full, but you cannot identify what most of it supports.
Correction: Tie each reserve to an active quest, recipe, upgrade, or clearly defined near-term plan. Remove the justification when that plan is complete.
Using an old keep list as law
Symptom: You refuse to sell or recycle an item because a guide once called it essential.

Correction: Inspect the current item details and recipe list. Community priorities are snapshots and may not match the current build.
Crafting without checking the footprint
Symptom: You consume several compact materials and end up with another full slot.
Correction: Compare stack behavior and immediate utility before crafting. Craft for a reason, not merely because the recipe is available.
Recycling too early
Symptom: You lose the option to process an item at home or discover later that it was needed for an upgrade.

Leaving the post-match screen untouched
Symptom: Resources remain in the backpack while the stash contains scattered partial stacks.
Correction: Use the current auto-unload option if available, then merge stacks and perform the objective check before starting another run.
Farming after the goal is already complete
Symptom: You keep picking up the same material even though the quest or upgrade requirement is met.
Correction: Change the run’s objective immediately. Switch to a different project, farm for currency, or extract while the route is safe instead of filling the remaining slots with redundant stacks.

A repeatable farming loop
- Before deployment: Select one primary objective and identify its required materials.
- At loadout: Leave enough capacity for the target category and avoid carrying unnecessary reserves.
- During the raid: Protect objective items, use the decision rule for incidental loot, and watch your remaining slots.
- At capacity: Drop or field recycle the lowest-priority item only after checking its current use and salvage value.
- After extraction: Auto-unload eligible resources, merge partial stacks, and compare totals with the objective.
- At Speranza: Sell or recycle surplus, keep the planned buffer, and clear completed-project materials that no longer have a purpose.
- Before the next drop: Recalculate the goal rather than repeating the previous run’s reserve automatically.
This loop turns stash space into a planning tool. You are not trying to maximize the number of items carried out; you are maximizing the number of useful objectives completed per extraction.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much of each item should I keep in ARC Raiders?
There is no universal official number. Keep the amount required by your active quest, recipe, or upgrade plus a modest near-term buffer. Common materials can usually be replaced more easily than rare components, so reassess and clear the reserve when the objective is finished.
Should I recycle materials in the field or wait until Speranza?
Wait when you have room and want to preserve your options. Field Recycling is best when a full backpack makes an open slot immediately valuable and the item has no higher-priority use. Yields can be item-specific, so check the current details.

A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11Does field crafting always save inventory space?
No. Open the inventory Crafting tab and compare the ingredient footprint with the finished item. Some recipes turn several stackable materials into a separate non-stackable item, so craft for immediate utility rather than simply because the recipe is available.
What should I sell first?
After checking current recipes and objectives, start with common materials above your planned reserve and duplicate items with no near-term use. Rare or inconvenient-to-farm components should be protected until you know they are not needed.
How do I consolidate my stash after a raid?
Use the current post-match auto-unload option for eligible resources if it appears, then group or merge partial stacks. Manually review weapons, ammunition, and quick-slot consumables because auto-unload coverage may skip them. Finish by checking your next objective and removing surplus.
How do the Expedition stash rewards affect farming?
Embark’s February 5, 2026 second-Expedition article described 12 to 24 permanent stash spaces and a Scrappy materials boost from 6% to 12% for consecutive departures. Those were dated reward details, and Embark warned requirements can change, so verify the current Expedition information.
The Bottom Line
Manage ARC Raiders inventory space by deciding what the next objective needs before the raid, protecting rare and required materials, and treating every other pickup as conditional. Craft or field-recycle only after comparing utility, footprint, and future value. After extraction, unload resources, merge partial stacks, process surplus at Speranza when practical, and reset your reserve for the next goal.
