Gemini in Chrome and Gemini Apps Activity are controlled in different places. Chrome’s Gemini in Chrome menu controls the browser assistant, page sharing, automatic browsing and saved sign-in permissions. The separate Gemini Apps Activity page controls whether Gemini conversations are saved, how long they are retained, deletion, and audio or Live data use. Changing one area does not automatically change the other.
This guide covers the current Android paths, availability requirements, privacy choices, deletion limits and troubleshooting steps documented by Google. Labels can change as the feature rolls out.

Check whether Gemini in Chrome is available
Gemini in Chrome is being released gradually, so the menu may not appear even when Chrome is working normally. Google lists all of the following requirements for Android access:

These requirements and the rollout status are listed in Google’s Chrome Help instructions for Gemini in Chrome on Android. If you meet the requirements but cannot find the feature, sign in to Chrome, update Chrome through Google Play, then completely restart Chrome. A missing menu can still mean that your region or account has not been included in the rollout.

Open the Gemini in Chrome controls
To reach the browser-specific settings, open Chrome on your Android phone or tablet, tap More (the three-dot menu), choose Settings, and tap Gemini in Chrome. This is the control center for the feature itself; it is not the place where saved Gemini conversation history is deleted.
Start a browser chat
- Open a page in Chrome.
- Tap Ask Gemini. You can also tap More and then Ask Gemini.
- On first use, review the information and opt in when prompted.
- Enter a question or request in the chat box. Start another conversation from the same box when you want a separate context.
Google describes examples such as summarizing an article, explaining a topic, modifying a recipe and comparing information. The chat panel can be minimized, reopened, resized or closed, so closing the floating panel does not by itself change your account activity settings.
Control sharing of the current page
By default, Gemini in Chrome shares the page currently open in the tab with the chat. This lets it summarize or answer questions about that page, but it also means the page content is part of that request. To prevent the current page from being sent, tap Stop sharing in the Gemini chat box. You can then continue chatting without sharing that page, or close the chat.
Stopping page sharing is a per-chat data-scope choice. It does not turn off Gemini in Chrome, delete previously saved Gemini Apps Activity or change the auto-delete schedule.
Manage automatic browsing and saved sign-in permissions
Google’s auto-browse feature lets Gemini carry out multi-step tasks on websites. Its controls are in Chrome > More > Settings > Gemini in Chrome.
Turn “Let Gemini browse for you” on or off
- Open Chrome and tap More.
- Tap Settings, then Gemini in Chrome.
- Find Let Gemini browse for you.
- Switch the setting off to prevent automatic browsing, or on to allow it.
Auto-browse is optional and experimental. Google’s documentation states that the user is responsible for the agent’s actions, including mistakes and unexpected outcomes such as purchases. Treat an instruction that can submit a form, place an order, change an account or disclose information as a transaction requiring your supervision rather than as a harmless search.
For multi-step tasks, Google lists official daily request limits of up to 20 requests per day with Google AI Pro and up to 200 requests per day with Google AI Ultra. These are stated service limits, not independent performance measurements. Google also says there is a concurrent-task limit but does not state its number on the referenced help page.

Remove a site’s automatic sign-in permission
- In Chrome, open More > Settings > Gemini in Chrome.
- Tap Sites Gemini can sign you in to.
- Review the sites listed as allowed.
- Select the site entry you no longer want and delete it.
Google says Gemini may use Google Password Manager and Sign in with Google only when you give permission. It also says passwords are not shared with Gemini in Chrome or with the other sites. Removing a site from this list revokes the saved permission for that site; it does not delete the site’s account, password or Google Password Manager entry.
Open and manage Gemini Apps Activity
Gemini Apps Activity is a separate account-level record. Use it when your goal is to review or delete Gemini conversations, stop future activity saving, or change retention. You can reach it from either of these Android paths:
- Gemini mobile app: tap Menu, tap your profile picture or initial, then tap Gemini Apps Activity.
- Gemini web app: open gemini.google.com, tap Menu, choose Settings & help, then tap Activity.
The controls described here apply to personal Google Accounts. On a work or school account, a Google Workspace administrator may control whether activity is saved and how long it is retained.
Delete activity at the scope you need
On the Gemini Apps Activity page, use the deletion controls near the activity list. Google provides several scopes:
- Delete all activity.
- Delete activity from the last hour.
- Delete activity from the last day.
- Delete a custom date range.
- Delete activity for a specific day.
- Delete one individual activity item.
Choose the narrowest scope that solves your problem if you need to preserve other conversations. Confirm the deletion when prompted, then refresh the activity page to verify that the selected records are gone.
Deleting a conversation with a Gem does not delete the Gem itself. Deleting a shared chat also does not remove the public link that was created for that chat; anyone who already has that link may still be able to access what the link exposes. Treat link management as a separate task.
Turn Gemini Apps Activity saving off or back on
For a personal account, the top of the Gemini Apps Activity page contains the Keep Activity control. Google says it is on by default for users aged 18 or older.

- Open Gemini Apps Activity using the mobile-app or web-app path above.
- At the top of the page, tap Turn off.
- Choose whether to turn it off only, or choose Turn off and delete activity if you also want the available existing activity removed.
- Complete the confirmation steps.
Turning Keep Activity off prevents new activity from appearing in Gemini Apps Activity, but it is not an instant zero-retention guarantee. Google says conversations can remain associated with the account for up to 72 hours so it can provide the service and process feedback; those conversations will not appear in Gemini Apps Activity during that period. Existing records that you want removed should be deleted with the activity controls rather than relying only on the switch.

To resume saving activity, return to the same control and turn Keep Activity on. If the switch is unavailable or locked on a work or school account, the administrator’s Workspace policy controls it.
Set an automatic deletion period
Auto-delete is independent of whether you manually delete a conversation. Google says Gemini Apps Activity older than 18 months is deleted automatically by default. The available choices are:

- Open Gemini Apps Activity.
- Find the auto-delete control near the top of the page.
- Select 3 months, 18 months, 36 months or No auto-delete.
- Follow the confirmation prompts and check that the selected period is displayed afterward.
The setting governs future automatic cleanup; it does not replace the separate controls for deleting a particular day, date range or item immediately.
Control audio and Gemini Live data use
Gemini Apps Activity also contains a separate choice about whether audio and Gemini Live videos or screen shares may be used to improve Google services, including training generative AI models. Google says this control is off by default.

Keep Activity must be on before this audio or Live improvement setting can be enabled. This setting concerns use of those media types for service improvement; it is distinct from sharing the current web page with a Gemini in Chrome chat.

- Stop sharing affects the current Chrome chat and page only. It does not erase an earlier chat or disable future Gemini chats.
- Let Gemini browse for you affects the experimental browser agent. It does not delete activity and does not revoke a site’s saved sign-in permission.
- Deleting an item in Gemini Apps Activity removes the selected record from that activity list, but it does not delete a Gem or remove a shared chat’s public link.
- Keep Activity off stops activity from appearing in the activity list going forward, subject to the documented service-retention period. It is different from deleting older records.
- Auto-delete schedules future cleanup. It is not an immediate “delete now” command.
- The audio and Live improvement choice concerns those media types and service improvement. It is not a control for Chrome page sharing.
Thinking in terms of feature access, data scope, retention and account control helps avoid changing the wrong setting.
Choose a setting combination for common situations
- You only want a page summarized privately. Open the Gemini chat, tap Stop sharing before submitting the request. Remember that the assistant can no longer use the page contents for that chat.
- You do not want an agent submitting actions. Leave Let Gemini browse for you off. If it is already enabled, switch it off and supervise any task that was in progress.
- You want to keep chats briefly. Leave Keep Activity on if you need the activity list, choose the 3 months auto-delete option, and manually remove especially sensitive items sooner.
- You want no new activity listed. Turn Keep Activity off. If older records also need removal, select Turn off and delete activity or use the individual deletion controls.
- You accidentally allowed a site to sign in. Remove that site under Sites Gemini can sign you in to. This changes Gemini’s saved permission, not the site account itself.
- You shared a chat publicly. Deleting the activity entry does not remove its public link. Handle the link separately and do not assume deletion has revoked access for people who already received it.
What the documented limits mean
Google lists up to 20 multi-step requests per day with Google AI Pro and up to 200 with Google AI Ultra. Those figures apply to the auto-browse task service described by Google; they are not a promise that every task will succeed, nor are they a measurement of speed or answer quality. Google also notes a concurrent-task limit without giving a number on the cited help page. If a task involves purchases, account changes or disclosure of information, the safety warning matters more than the daily allowance.

Troubleshoot missing settings and unexpected behavior
The Gemini in Chrome menu is missing
- Confirm that the device runs Android 12 or later and has at least 4 GB of RAM.
- Update Chrome, sign in, and restart the browser.
- Leave Incognito mode and check the device language; Google’s listed requirement is English.
- Check age and regional availability. The feature is rolling out gradually and may not yet be enabled for your account.
- If you use a work or school account, ask the Workspace administrator whether Gemini in Chrome has been enabled.
I changed Chrome settings but activity is still present
Chrome’s Gemini menu does not delete Gemini Apps Activity. Open the Gemini app or Gemini web app and use its Activity page for deletion, Keep Activity and auto-delete controls.
I turned off Keep Activity but expected immediate erasure
Use the activity deletion controls for existing records and remember that Google documents a service-retention period after Keep Activity is turned off. The activity list may not show those temporarily retained conversations.
A site still asks Gemini to sign in
Return to Chrome > More > Settings > Gemini in Chrome > Sites Gemini can sign you in to and remove the site entry. Also review the site’s own session, cookies and Google Password Manager settings if the site continues to authenticate through its normal sign-in flow.

Turn Let Gemini browse for you off, review the site’s account or order history directly, and change any affected credentials or settings through the site itself. Because Google describes agent actions as experimental and places responsibility on the user, do not delegate consequential transactions without watching each step.
A practical privacy checklist
- Use Stop sharing before asking about a page that contains personal, confidential or account-specific information.
- Leave auto-browse off unless you have a task that genuinely benefits from multi-step navigation.
- Review Sites Gemini can sign you in to and remove permissions you no longer recognize.
- Set an auto-delete period that matches how long you need conversations, then manually delete sensitive items sooner.
- Remember that deleting a shared chat does not remove its public link; manage the link separately.
- Keep the audio and Gemini Live improvement setting off unless you deliberately want to opt in.
- For managed accounts, ask the administrator which activity and retention rules apply.
Once you separate the browser controls from Gemini Apps Activity, each setting has a clear purpose: page sharing governs the current chat, Chrome settings govern browser capabilities, and the Activity page governs saved records and retention.
