Before deleting a game or clearing its data, confirm how that game saves progress: phone-level storage settings cannot tell you whether its progress is backed up.
Check what is using storage first
Phone storage holds apps and files; it is different from memory (RAM), which programs use while they run. A storage warning is not the same as a low-memory performance issue.

- iPhone: Open Settings > General > iPhone Storage to check available capacity and app usage.
- Android: Open your phone’s Settings and look for Storage or an app/file cleanup option. The exact menu and labels vary by manufacturer and Android version.
Check the game’s listing in the app store and any in-game download information to understand what you need to make room for. No single game-size estimate applies to every title or update.

Google Play Help recommends removing unused apps, deleting downloaded files, and copying files to a computer before deleting their local copies. Review what a file is and whether you have another copy before removing it.

Archive games you are not playing
Google Play can automatically archive apps used infrequently. Archiving removes the app while keeping personal data and its icon; you can download it again if it remains available on Google Play. To enable the option, open Play Store > profile picture > Settings > General > Automatically archive apps. A manual archive option may also appear on some devices.
Clear cache, not data, when you want a lower-risk cleanup
On Android, app controls are usually in Settings under Apps, but the path and wording vary by phone. Choose Clear cache if available. Google describes cache as temporary data and notes that clearing it may make an app load more slowly the next time.

Do not treat Clear storage or Clear data as another name for clearing cache. Google’s Android Help says, “Clear storage: Permanently deletes all app data.” If you are trying to remove content, check for a removal option inside the game first.

Offload an unused game
To let iPhone offload unused apps automatically, open Settings > Apps > App Store > Offload Unused Apps. When storage is low, iPhone can remove an app but retain its documents and data. The Home Screen icon stays, marked with a cloud symbol; tap it to reinstall the app. Reinstallation needs a connection and depends on the app remaining available.

Understand offload versus delete
Apple distinguishes Offload, which frees space used by the app while keeping documents and data, from Delete, which removes the app and related data. Some app documents or data may be removable separately, depending on the app. Apple also notes that cached and temporary data might not be included in the app’s displayed storage figure; iOS removes cached and temporary files when it needs space.

Samsung’s Gulf support guidance describes moving selected files with My Files to an SD card to free internal storage on compatible Galaxy devices. Check your exact model: inclusion in Samsung’s Galaxy S, Z, or A series guidance does not mean every model has an SD slot. These instructions establish moving files, not that a particular game can be installed or stored on the card.

Protect game progress before a destructive step
Whether deleting a game or clearing its app data removes progress depends on that game’s save and account setup. Phone storage settings cannot confirm that cloud synchronization is enabled or that a local save has been backed up. Before using Clear Data/Clear Storage or uninstalling, check the game’s own account, save, and support information. If it offers a way to remove downloaded packs safely, use that in-game control; the available platform guidance does not establish how any unnamed game handles those assets.
Samsung’s Galaxy instructions show a separate control at Settings > Apps > [app] > Storage > Clear Cache; Clear Data or Clear Storage resets the app to default settings. Menu labels can differ by model. Do not use the data-clearing option unless you are prepared for the app’s stored information to be removed.
