To manage face data on a smart display, open the manufacturer’s app or account settings and look for its face-recognition feature. Turning a feature off may not erase the enrollment material used to set it up: Google says Nest Hub Max Face Match enrollment images must be removed separately. Amazon offers separate Visual ID controls for compatible Echo Show devices. These instructions cover those products specifically; menus and effects vary by model.
Choose the control that matches what you want to change
Face-recognition settings, saved enrollment material, and camera controls can affect different things. Before changing a setting, decide whether you want to stop recognition on one device, remove it from a home or account, delete stored enrollment material, or prevent camera sensing. Check the manufacturer’s instructions for your exact model and software, since menu labels and available options can vary.

- Stop a feature: Turn off Face Match or Visual ID where available.

Manage Face Match on Google Nest Hub Max
Google says Nest Hub Max Face Match requires Voice Match. In the Google Home app, open the home settings, then Assistant settings, and select Face Match. Google’s current instructions allow you to deselect Face Match for an individual device or remove Face Match from the home. Labels may differ depending on whether your home uses Google Assistant or Gemini for Home. Follow Google Home and Nest Help’s Face Match instructions for the current route.

Turning off Face Match does not delete enrollment images
Google says turning off Face Match removes the face model from the selected device or home, but leaves the enrollment images used to create it. To remove those images, use Google’s separate Voice and Face Match enrollment-image deletion route. Turning off Voice Match also opts you out of Face Match, but do not treat that as a substitute for deleting enrollment images if deletion is your goal.

Face Match is not an access-control feature
Google’s warning is explicit: “Your Google Nest Hub Max’s Face Match is not a security feature.” Google also cautions that the display may mistake a photograph for you or confuse you with a similar-looking household member. Do not rely on Face Match to authenticate a person or secure access to information.
Manage Visual ID on Amazon Echo Show
Amazon describes Visual ID as on-device facial recognition that provides personalized experiences on compatible Echo Show devices. Amazon provides controls to delete Visual ID from a device with a screen and a separate account- or app-related help route. Follow the steps for your exact Echo Show model and current software; Amazon notes that menu labels can vary by model. Start with Amazon’s Visual ID help and instructions for deleting Visual ID.

Decide separately whether to disable the camera
Turning off face recognition and disabling a camera are different choices. For the Echo Show 8 (2025 release) and Echo Show 11 (2025 release), Amazon identifies Live View, Drop In, and Visual ID as camera-dependent functions. Disabling the camera on those models can therefore affect more than recognition. Do not assume that the same feature list or behavior applies to every Echo Show generation; check Amazon’s camera-controls guidance for your model.

Google’s privacy help lists setup details, sensor data, audio and video, and derived data such as facial-recognition information among possible connected-home data categories. What is collected or processed depends on the feature, settings, account, and region. Google also cautions that local law and the way you use cameras or face recognition may require visitor consent. Review Google’s connected-home privacy information and applicable local requirements before enrolling or processing other people’s faces.

Keep product-specific storage details in context
Storage behavior can differ by product and setup path. Google’s familiar-face guidance distinguishes older Nest camera models set up in the Nest app from newer camera models set up in Google Home. That information concerns those camera models; it does not establish where every smart display or every brand stores face data. Consult the specific device’s privacy and deletion instructions rather than applying camera guidance to a display.
