Full Disk Access covers the broad file operations described in Eney’s handbook; Contacts, Microphone, Screen Recording, and Accessibility are separate controls for separate features. Turn on only what the task requires, and switch any permission off later from the same category.
The steps below apply to Eney for Apple-silicon Macs running macOS 15 or later, the platform described in Eney’s current product information. Menu wording can vary slightly between macOS releases, especially for Screen Recording.

Permission map: which switch controls which capability
Use this matrix before enabling anything. “Scope” describes how broadly the permission can expose information or control; it is not a guarantee that Eney will use the access for every request.

If a task involves more than one kind of data, enable each required category separately rather than assuming one approval covers all of them.

Complete the first-launch prompts
Eney may request Accessibility and Full Disk Access when you first open it. Granting these prompts is optional in the sense that you can decline, but file searches and some Mac interactions will not work without the corresponding access.
- Open Eney and read the permission explanation before choosing Allow.
- If macOS opens a Privacy & Security pane, authenticate with your Mac account if requested.
- Find Eney in the named list and turn on the switch.
- Return to Eney and retry the action that prompted for access.
Skipping a prompt does not permanently block the app. You can enable the same permission manually in System Settings.
Give Eney access to files and folders
Enable Full Disk Access
- Open the Apple menu and choose System Settings.
- Select Privacy & Security in the sidebar.
- Open Full Disk Access.
- Locate Eney and turn its switch on. If macOS asks you to authenticate, complete that step.
- Quit and reopen Eney, then repeat the file request.
Full Disk Access is the broad macOS control documented for Eney’s file work. It is not a per-folder picker: once enabled, the operating system makes a wider range of protected locations available to the app. If you only want Eney to handle a particular document, keep the permission off until you need a file task, or revoke it after the task is complete.

Understand what happens to file content
Eney says that reading files and searching your Mac are performed locally through its built-in tools. For an answer that needs an AI model, the resulting context can be sent to an AI provider. That can include file contents or tool results, so treat Full Disk Access as both a capability decision and a data-handling decision.
Read-only work, such as searching your Mac or reading a file, may not trigger another confirmation after access has been granted. Creating, changing, sending, or deleting generally requires Eney to ask first, unless you have allowed those actions for the current chat or globally in Settings.
Allow or block contact access
Change the Contacts switch
- Open System Settings.
- Go to Privacy & Security > Contacts.
- Find Eney in the app list.
- Turn the switch on to permit contact reading, or off to block it.
- Return to Eney and retry the request that needs a contact.
Contacts access is separate from Full Disk Access. A file permission will not make contact cards available, and enabling Contacts does not grant access to files.
Use the narrowest practical access
Enable Contacts only when a requested task genuinely needs names, phone numbers, addresses, or other contact-card information. Eney’s privacy notice says that, with macOS permission, it can read contacts as well as email, calendar events, reminders, apps, and files to perform a task. Approve the categories you need instead of treating a general assistant request as permission for every source.
Enable the microphone for voice and Meeting Assistant
Turn microphone access on
- Open System Settings.
- Select Privacy & Security > Microphone.
- Turn on Eney.
- Quit and reopen Eney if the feature still reports that no microphone is available.
- Start the voice feature or Meeting Assistant again.
Know what Meeting Assistant records
Eney describes Meeting Assistant as capturing your microphone and the meeting application’s sound. The resulting recording includes all participants’ voices, not just your own. Tell everyone on the call that recording is taking place and obtain consent when the law in your location requires it. A microphone approval is therefore a recording decision, not merely a speech-to-text convenience.

When you do not need voice capture, switch Eney off under Microphone. The setting can be restored later without changing Full Disk Access, Contacts, Screen Recording, or Accessibility.
Give Eney Wand screen access
Enable the correct macOS category
- Open System Settings.
- Choose Privacy & Security.
- Open Screen Recording. On some macOS versions the category is labeled Screen & System Audio Recording.
- Turn on Eney and authenticate if macOS requests it.
- Quit and reopen Eney before starting Wand if the app does not detect the change.
Start Wand deliberately
Eney states that Wand works only when you start it, using its keyboard shortcut, by shaking the cursor, or from the + menu. It does not continuously capture the screen merely because the permission is enabled. When you start Wand, select the region you want it to inspect.
Wand can recognize text in that selected area. Depending on the action you choose, Eney may send the recognized text or a screenshot to an AI provider. Avoid selecting passwords, private messages, financial details, or unrelated windows when they are not needed for the task.

Turn Accessibility on when a feature needs it
- Open System Settings > Privacy & Security > Accessibility.
- Locate Eney.
- Turn the switch on for the Mac interactions you intend to use.
- Turn it off again when those interactions are no longer required.
Accessibility is independent of Screen Recording. Screen capture will not be granted by enabling Accessibility, and an Accessibility approval will not let Wand read pixels.
Understand proactive suggestions
Eney’s privacy notice says that proactive suggestions can use the domain of the active browser tab when Accessibility access has been granted. If you do not want that browser-context signal used, disable Eney in the Accessibility list; file and contact switches can remain unchanged.
How Eney asks before it acts
Permission approval and action approval are different controls. Eney says it asks before acting on your behalf. After macOS or iOS access has been granted, read-only tools may proceed without asking again. Actions that create, modify, send, or delete generally produce a confirmation prompt unless you have explicitly allowed them for the current chat or globally in Settings.
This means a successful permission change does not authorize an email to be sent, a file to be deleted, or a calendar event to be changed. Review the action-level prompt even when the underlying data permission is already enabled.
Privacy implications of enabling access
Local tools and cloud processing operate together
Eney describes local tools for tasks such as searching your Mac and reading files, while its privacy notice says cloud processing is enabled by default. Depending on the request, Eney may send your request, conversation context, Memories, and tool results—such as file contents, email, or calendar data—to an AI provider.

The FAQ says conversations, personal details, and Memories remain stored locally on your Mac and are not used to train those models. It also explains that requests are processed by trusted third-party large language models in the cloud and that shared data is not linked back to you personally. These statements address storage and model use, not the scope of the macOS permission itself: you should still grant only the access needed for the task.
Use a permission decision framework
- Task necessity: identify the exact Eney feature you are about to use.
- Scope: distinguish a narrow category such as Contacts or Microphone from broad Full Disk Access.
- Data sensitivity: consider whether the task involves contact cards, recordings, screenshots, files, email, or calendar information.
- Reversibility: remember that every listed switch can be turned off later in System Settings.
Revoke Eney’s access
- Open System Settings.
- Choose Privacy & Security.
- Open the category you want to change: Full Disk Access, Contacts, Microphone, Screen Recording (or Screen & System Audio Recording), or Accessibility.
- Turn Eney off.
- Quit and reopen Eney if it continues behaving as though the old access is present.
Eney’s privacy notice says you can withdraw permissions in Settings at any time. Revoking a switch blocks future use of that capability; it does not erase files, recordings, screenshots, or other data that you separately saved or shared.
Troubleshoot a permission that does not work
Check the exact category first
Match the error to the feature instead of enabling every switch. A file-search failure points to Full Disk Access; a missing contact points to Contacts; voice or Meeting Assistant problems point to Microphone; Wand problems point to Screen Recording; and interaction or proactive browser-context issues point to Accessibility.

Restart after changing access
- Confirm the Eney switch is on in the relevant Privacy & Security category.
- Quit Eney completely.
- Open Eney again and repeat the task.
- If it still fails, restart the Mac.
The handbook specifically recommends restarting the app and checking for updates when Eney is not responding. Run the current Eney version available for your installation before diagnosing a permission problem that may already have been fixed.
Check for a label or feature mismatch
- On some macOS releases, Screen Recording appears as Screen & System Audio Recording.
- Wand will not capture anything until you start it; merely enabling the switch is not an active recording session.
- Microphone permission does not include meeting-app audio unless you are using the Meeting Assistant workflow that captures it.
- Full Disk Access and Accessibility are separate approvals even though both may be requested during setup.
Check connectivity and account limits
The handbook describes an internet requirement for the Mac beta. If permissions are correct but Eney cannot answer, verify that the Mac is online and that the app can reach its service. Eney’s Mac distribution is through Setapp, and the product information documents plans that use AI credits; check your Setapp status and available credits when a request fails after access has been granted. No permission switch can replace an internet connection or an eligible plan.
Mac versus iPhone permissions
The documented handbook paths in this guide are for Eney on an Apple-silicon Mac running macOS 15 or later. Eney also has an iPhone experience, but iOS presents its own per-app permission prompts and does not expose macOS controls such as Full Disk Access. On iPhone, follow the permission prompt shown by Eney and use the relevant iOS Settings category if you later need to change it; do not expect the Mac labels or the Wand workflow to appear unchanged.
A practical least-access setup
For file questions only
Start with Full Disk Access if Eney cannot search the required locations. Leave Contacts, Microphone, Screen Recording, and Accessibility off unless another feature needs them.

For a meeting transcript
Enable Microphone, notify participants, obtain any required consent, run Meeting Assistant, then turn Microphone off when the meeting is over.
For a one-time Wand action
Enable Screen Recording, start Wand manually, select only the necessary screen region, perform the action, and revoke Screen Recording when finished.
For browser-aware proactive suggestions
Enable Accessibility only if you want the Mac interactions or active-browser-domain context that depend on it. Disable it when those features are not part of your workflow.

What to remember
- Review Eney’s access in System Settings > Privacy & Security.
- Full Disk Access is the broad file-control permission; Accessibility is a separate interaction permission.
- Contacts, Microphone, and Screen Recording each protect a distinct capability.
- Permission approval does not automatically approve destructive or outward-facing actions.
- Cloud processing can involve the context and tool results needed to answer a request, so data sensitivity matters as much as technical necessity.

Platform, installation, and service requirements
Eney’s current Mac product information targets M-series Macs running macOS 15 or later. The beta handbook also describes Apple Silicon support and an internet connection requirement. If your Mac is Intel-based or running an older macOS release, the controls or installation path described here may not apply.
The Mac app is distributed through Setapp, and Eney documents plans that consume AI credits. Setapp access and available credits are separate from macOS privacy approvals: you can have every switch enabled and still be unable to complete a request if the app is not available through your Setapp account or the relevant AI-credit allowance is exhausted. Check those account requirements without granting additional permissions.
Keep the privacy notice in context
MacPaw’s Eney Privacy Notice was marked updated October 14, 2026, with an effective date of October 15, 2026. It says, “You decide what Eney can access and you can change these permissions at any time in Settings.” That reversibility is useful, but it does not make broad access risk-free. Review the category, the data involved, and whether the task is worth enabling it each time.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I give Eney access to my files?
On your Mac, open System Settings > Privacy & Security > Full Disk Access, turn on Eney, authenticate if asked, then quit and reopen Eney. Full Disk Access is broad rather than a per-folder picker, so revoke it when the file task is finished if you do not need continuing access.
Why can’t Eney see my contacts?

Is Accessibility the same as Screen Recording?
No. Accessibility supports specified Mac interactions and can provide the active browser tab’s domain for proactive suggestions. Screen Recording enables Wand to capture a selected region. They are independent switches, and enabling one does not grant the other.
