To loop prerecorded video in a 24/7 YouTube Live stream, make the encoder or cloud playout service restart the video or playlist when it ends. YouTube’s viewer-side Loop command only repeats a regular video for one viewer; it does not create a live broadcast. A smooth loop also depends on matching the source’s ending to its beginning, setting the encoder correctly, and planning for outages.
Choose where the loop will run
The repeating feed must come from the software, hardware, or cloud service that sends video to YouTube Live. YouTube lists OBS as free, open-source streaming software, along with cloud services for continuous prerecorded streams and dedicated hardware options. Those listings identify possible workflows; they are not independent reliability evaluations.
- Streaming software on a computer: A practical route if you have a suitable computer and are comfortable operating an encoder. The computer, software, source file, and internet connection all need to keep working for the stream to continue.
- Cloud playout: A service can send the prerecorded feed without relying on a computer at home. Compare its looping, playlist, monitoring, and recovery features, as well as recurring fees and dependence on the provider.
- Dedicated hardware: YouTube describes the AJA HELO Plus as a standalone H.264 encoder with PlayToStream functionality for scheduling prerecorded media to YouTube Live without a computer. This is a specialized option, not a requirement for every channel.
For a do-it-yourself setup, the steps below use YouTube’s encoder workflow. The exact loop controls depend on the encoder you choose; YouTube’s setup guidance does not prescribe an OBS scene or source configuration.
Set up YouTube Live and connect the encoder
- Check live-stream eligibility. YouTube’s current guidance requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. First-time activation may take up to 24 hours, so enable it before your planned start.
- Create or schedule an encoder stream in YouTube Studio. Open the stream’s settings and obtain the stream URL and stream key. YouTube describes the key as the information that lets its system accept the encoder feed. Treat it like a password: do not publish it or include it in screenshots.
- Enter the connection details in your encoder. Use the stream URL and key from YouTube Studio. YouTube recommends RTMPS; use the connection option your encoder supports.
- Set the video to repeat. In your encoder or playout service, configure the file or playlist to restart at the end. For a playlist, check its order and confirm that its final item returns cleanly to the first.
- Choose stream visibility and viewing controls. YouTube supports public, private, and unlisted streams. Its live-stream settings also cover latency, DVR, auto-start and auto-stop, rights management, and monetization. DVR lets viewers pause and rewind during the live stream. YouTube notes that lower latency can increase playback buffering and matters less when you are not interacting with viewers.
Edit the source for a clean loop
Encoder settings cannot hide a bad edit. Inspect the end-to-start transition in the actual video, then preview several consecutive repetitions rather than checking only one pass.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Picture: Compare the last frame with the first. A large change in camera position, brightness, or motion can make the restart conspicuous.
- Sound: Match loudness and background ambience across the seam. A short fade may soften a hard splice, but fading to silence can be just as noticeable.
- Program flow: Look for title cards, long black sections, abrupt cutoffs, or a spoken introduction that repeats every time the file restarts. For a playlist, inspect every join as well as the final-to-first transition.
A technically uninterrupted feed can still feel repetitive or broken if its content restarts awkwardly. YouTube’s platform documentation does not guarantee gapless looping; the transition depends on the source and playout setup.
Choose encoder settings that fit your upload
YouTube’s encoder settings guidance lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 video for RTMP/RTMPS; frame rates up to 60 fps; CBR encoding; and AAC or MP3 audio. It recommends a two-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed four seconds. YouTube recommends RTMPS for the connection.

For H.264, YouTube’s recommended bitrate ranges are 5–14 Mbps at 1080p30 and 6–17 Mbps at 1080p60. For AV1 or H.265, the ranges are 4–10 Mbps at 1080p30 and 4–12 Mbps at 1080p60. These are platform recommendations, not guaranteed minimum upload speeds. Leave network headroom and test sustained upstream capacity at the resolution and frame rate you intend to use.
Pick a resolution, frame rate, codec, and bitrate that your encoder and sustained upload can handle together. YouTube automatically transcodes incoming live video into output formats for viewers on different devices and networks; that does not remove the need to send a stable, correctly configured feed.

Preview, test, and launch with a recovery plan
- Test before the real broadcast. Use content representative of the finished stream, including its typical movement and audio. Check the Live Control Room preview and stream health.
- Verify audience access. Confirm viewers can open the event from the channel or watch page, including on mobile devices, and check the privacy setting is what you intended.
- Allow setup time. YouTube recommends setting up an encoder at least two hours before a scheduled event and starting it at least 15 minutes before the scheduled time.
- Test failover where available. If your setup has a backup encoder, test the handoff rather than assuming it will work. Plan how you will recover from a computer, power, internet, or source-file failure.
- Monitor the stream. A 24/7 label or configuration is not an uptime guarantee. Decide who or what will notice a stalled feed, bad audio, or a dropped connection and what action will restore it.
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume the same automatic archive behavior for a stream longer than 12 hours. Keep a local copy of the final source and a separate recovery plan; YouTube’s guidance recommends checking archive-file integrity for events but does not prescribe a particular backup arrangement.
Protect the channel and the viewing experience
Confirm that you have the rights to every video and audio track in the loop. YouTube provides rights-management controls, but those controls do not establish that a particular recording is cleared for use. Repeatedly streaming content you do not have permission to use can create rights problems. Live-stream earnings options may include ads and Super Chat, and some channels have access to memberships; availability and eligibility are not guaranteed.

Fix common looping and stream problems
- The video repeats for viewers but is not live: The YouTube Loop command repeats a regular upload for an individual viewer. Create an encoder stream and have the encoder or playout service send the repeating feed to YouTube Live.
- The stream never becomes available: Confirm live streaming is enabled, the channel meets YouTube’s eligibility guidance, and the stream URL and key are correct. If you just enabled live streaming for the first time, activation can take up to 24 hours.
- The feed drops or becomes unstable: Check the encoder’s connection and stream health, then compare the chosen bitrate with sustained upstream capacity. Leave headroom, verify the connection details, and test any backup encoder before relying on it.
- The loop has a visible flash, silence, or cut: Inspect the source boundary and all playlist joins. Match the opening and closing picture and audio, then preview multiple repetitions.
- Viewers report buffering: Recheck the bitrate against available upload capacity and test on representative devices and connections. If you lowered latency, remember that YouTube warns lower latency can mean more playback buffering.
- The stream is missing from an archive: Check whether it exceeded 12 hours; YouTube’s stated automatic archive behavior applies to streams under 12 hours.
