If text or icons are too small on your Samsung Galaxy, start with Settings > Display > Font size and style for text, then use Settings > Display > Screen zoom when the icons, buttons, or overall layout also need to be larger. For difficult-to-see content, Samsung also provides contrast controls, Display mode, and a Magnifier under Accessibility.
Menu names and available features vary by Galaxy model and software version. If a path does not match your phone, open Settings and search for font size, screen zoom, high contrast, or magnifier.

Choose the control that matches the problem
Samsung separates text sizing from overall screen sizing. Font size changes letters while leaving most of the interface layout alone. Screen zoom enlarges text, images, icons, and other interface elements together. That distinction matters on a compact phone: increasing font size may solve a reading problem, while screen zoom is more useful when buttons or icons are also hard to identify.

Increase text size first
When the main issue is small lettering in Settings, messages, web pages, or other apps, adjust the dedicated font control before changing the whole layout.

Step-by-step
- Open Settings.
- Tap Display.
- Choose Font size and style.
- Move the font-size slider toward the larger setting until normal reading feels comfortable.
- Close Settings and check several places where you regularly read, such as notifications, messages, and app menus.
Samsung’s panel may also include font style and a bold-font option. Bold text can improve the distinction between letters when a larger size alone is not enough. Change one setting at a time so you can tell whether size, weight, or both are helping.
Check more than one app
Some apps use their own text controls or do not respond identically to the system setting. Test the home screen, Settings, a messaging app, and a browser. If only one app remains difficult to read, look in that app’s own display or accessibility settings rather than making every Galaxy screen larger.
Make icons and controls larger with Screen zoom
Use Screen zoom when the problem includes icons, buttons, thumbnails, or other interface elements. Samsung describes this control as changing the size of text and images; in practice, it enlarges more of the screen layout than font size alone.

- Open Settings.
- Tap Display.
- Select Screen zoom.
- Move the control toward the larger setting.
- Review the preview, if your model shows one, and apply the setting.
Because the layout is larger, fewer items may be visible at once. You may need to scroll more often, and some screens may wrap labels onto extra lines. That is expected: Screen zoom prioritizes visibility over the amount of information shown simultaneously.

When to use both settings
Font size and Screen zoom are separate controls. If letters remain too small after increasing Screen zoom, raise the font size as well. If text is readable but icons remain tiny, leave font size near its current level and increase Screen zoom instead. Make the smallest change that solves the problem to avoid unnecessary scrolling.
Improve readability with contrast and visibility options
Larger text is not always the answer. Low contrast, thin lettering, or a bright background can make normally sized text difficult to distinguish. Samsung places these tools in an Accessibility section whose label varies by model, commonly Vision enhancements or Visibility enhancements.
Find the vision controls
- Open Settings.
- Tap Accessibility.
- Open Vision enhancements or Visibility enhancements.
- Review the available contrast, color, and magnification controls.
If your phone uses different wording, search Settings for vision, visibility, or contrast. Samsung notes that the exact menu and feature set depend on the Galaxy model and software version.

Turn on High contrast fonts
High contrast fonts add a visible outline or stronger separation around text so it stands out from the background. This is useful when increasing the font size makes words bigger but does not make them clearer. Enable it from the vision-enhancement area, then check text over both light and dark backgrounds. If the heavier appearance is distracting, turn it off and try a modest font-size increase instead.

Use Display mode when available
Samsung’s UK accessibility guidance describes Display mode as a combination that can increase contrast or make content larger. Samsung lists this feature for devices running One UI 4.0 and above; that does not mean every Galaxy phone, region, or software build exposes the same choices. If Display mode appears in your Accessibility settings, open it and select the option that best matches your need, then review text, icons, and color-sensitive content before keeping the change.
Use the Magnifier for occasional close-up viewing
A permanent size increase is not always convenient. Samsung’s accessibility documentation also describes a Magnifier widget that can zoom in on objects and adjust color, brightness, and contrast. It is suited to short tasks such as reading a small label, inspecting a detailed image, or checking a control that you do not normally need enlarged.
Set up and use it
- Open Settings > Accessibility.
- Enter Vision enhancements or Visibility enhancements.
- Look for Magnifier or Magnifier widget.
- Enable the widget or shortcut offered by your phone.
- Use the resulting on-screen control when you need temporary magnification, and close or dismiss it when finished.
The available shortcut and adjustment controls differ by software version. The Magnifier is a temporary aid, so it does not replace Font size or Screen zoom when the entire phone is consistently too small.
Consider spoken assistance when visual enlargement is not enough
If enlarged text and stronger contrast still do not make navigation reliable, Samsung includes spoken accessibility features. TalkBack can provide spoken feedback while you move around the interface. Select to Speak can read selected on-screen content aloud. These features address access to information through audio rather than making every visual element larger.

Find them under Settings > Accessibility; the exact subcategory and activation method vary by Galaxy model. Because spoken feedback changes how touch gestures work, read the introductory instructions shown when you enable it and practice with a low-risk screen such as Settings before using it for important tasks.

Use this order if you are unsure which adjustment to make:
- Raise Font size and style. Stop when ordinary reading is comfortable.
- Check icons and buttons. If they are still too small, increase Screen zoom.
- Improve contrast. Try High contrast fonts if letters blend into the background.
- Try Display mode. Use it only if your phone offers it and you want a broader contrast or size change.
- Add Magnifier. Keep it for occasional details that do not justify a permanent layout change.
- Use spoken assistance. Consider TalkBack or Select to Speak if visual changes do not provide dependable access.
After each step, test the screens you use most. A setting that helps in Settings may be uncomfortable in a map, camera, game, or other app with dense controls.

Text changed, but icons did not
You adjusted Font size and style, which is a text-specific setting. Open Settings > Display > Screen zoom to enlarge the wider interface.
Everything became larger, but the screen feels crowded
Screen zoom reduces the amount of content visible at once. Move its control back one step, then raise Font size separately if letters are the main problem. This combination can preserve more of the original layout while keeping text readable.
The setting is missing
Galaxy menus differ across models, carriers, regions, and software versions. Use the Settings search field and enter the feature name. Search separately for font size, screen zoom, high contrast fonts, and magnifier. If a result still does not appear, that feature may not be included in your software build.
One app still shows tiny text
The app may use its own typography or may not fully follow the system setting. Look for an in-app text, display, or accessibility control. Screen zoom can enlarge the surrounding interface, but it cannot guarantee identical behavior inside every third-party app.

Contrast looks harsh
High contrast fonts and broader display modes intentionally make visual boundaries stronger. If the result is uncomfortable, disable the contrast option and use a smaller font or Screen zoom adjustment. You can combine a moderate size increase with the default contrast instead of using the strongest setting.
Restore a comfortable layout
All of these changes are reversible. Return to the same Display or Accessibility menu and move the relevant control back toward its previous position, or switch the enabled option off. Change only the setting responsible for the problem: reducing Screen zoom does not require you to undo Font size, and disabling High contrast fonts does not remove a Magnifier shortcut.
What to expect on different Galaxy models
Samsung’s support guidance covers Galaxy phones across multiple software generations, so labels and locations are not identical. One phone may call the area Vision enhancements, while another uses Visibility enhancements. A feature such as Display mode may be present on a One UI 4.0-or-newer device but absent from an older or region-specific build. Treat the paths above as the common starting points, then use Settings search when your screen differs.
The essential distinction remains consistent: use Font size and style for letters, Screen zoom for the wider interface, contrast controls when text lacks definition, Magnifier for temporary close inspection, and spoken features when visual changes are insufficient.
