How do I make money streaming with ads?
Start by choosing a platform and confirming its current payout requirements. Then qualify for the relevant monetization program, enable the available ad settings, and review actual revenue in the platform’s analytics. Ad availability and payout are separate: ads may not serve in every opportunity, and a headline revenue share is not a prediction of what a particular stream will earn.

- Check the payout gate. Confirm the program, country availability, account standing, and policy requirements in the platform’s official dashboard.
- Meet the applicable eligibility rules. Thresholds for early access to fan-funding tools may differ from those for advertising revenue.
- Enable the platform’s monetization settings. For YouTube, accept the relevant Watch Page Monetization Module and turn on livestream monetization.
- Choose ad timing where controls are available. YouTube offers automatic or manual mid-rolls; an available slot still may not fill.
- Review results after streams. Use the platform’s analytics and your own actual figures rather than assuming a standard payment per view, hour, or ad.

These are different monetization mechanisms, so their figures should not be compared as if they were equivalent ad splits. For example, Kick’s separate 95/5 subscription split is about subscriptions, not advertising.
How much does YouTube pay for livestream ads?
YouTube’s partner earnings documentation states that a creator who accepts the Watch Page Monetization Module receives 55% of net revenue from ads displayed or streamed on public videos on the content Watch Page. The rate also applies when qualifying public videos are streamed in YouTube’s player on other websites or applications. It is a share of net revenue under the module, not 55% of a guaranteed amount per view or a fixed CPM. YouTube says its agreement does not guarantee how much, or whether, a partner will be paid. Ads on a live stream are not guaranteed
When livestream monetization is on, YouTube automatically enables pre-roll and display ads. Mid-roll ads can be inserted automatically or scheduled manually. YouTube recommends automatic mid-rolls, but its systems decide whether an ad serves in an available slot, balancing viewer experience, creator earnings, and advertiser values. What YouTube eligibility do you need for ad revenue?
YouTube’s YPP eligibility documentation, accessed October 3, 2026, lists the following threshold for Watch Page ads and YouTube Premium revenue sharing: 1,000 subscribers and either 4,000 qualified public watch hours in the previous 12 months or 10 million qualified public Shorts views in the previous 90 days. Meeting the numbers is not automatic approval: your channel must satisfy policies and complete the program steps, including accepting the relevant terms. Early YPP access is a different threshold
In eligible regions, expanded YPP can provide earlier access to certain fan-funding and Shopping features at 500 subscribers, three valid public uploads in 90 days, and either 3,000 qualified watch hours or 3 million qualified Shorts views. This early-access route is not the threshold for Watch Page ad sharing.
Which live watch hours count?
YouTube excludes watch hours from livestreams that are unlisted, deleted, or not converted to VOD when calculating the public watch-hour threshold. If you are building toward the 4,000-hour route, check that your stream is public and that its replay remains available as a VOD.

How many followers do you need to get paid on Twitch?
In its May 13, 2026 announcement, Twitch said eligible streamers would receive broader access to Bits, subscriptions, emotes, badges, and Channel Points, but streamers still need Affiliate or Partner status to receive a payout. The updated Affiliate criteria in that announcement were:
- Four hours streamed.
- Streaming on four different days.
- At least three average concurrent viewers on four different days.
- At least 25 followers.
These are Twitch’s announced 2026 criteria, not an ad revenue share. Verify your current status and requirements in the Twitch dashboard; the cited announcement does not establish that every streamer with access to individual tools receives direct ad payouts. Can you make money streaming on Kick?
Kick’s Help Center guidance dated July 29, 2026 says its platform-wide ads may appear, but they do not currently generate direct additional payment to creators. Ad delivery can vary by viewer location, category, channel, and language; a scheduled break may occur without an ad playing. Creators can see an approaching break in the dashboard, defer it, or trigger it early. Delaying one break does not shift the next scheduled break, and the guidance says creators cannot opt out of scheduled ads at this time.

How to choose a platform and track real income
- Choose based on the monetization mechanism you can actually access, not a revenue-share figure in isolation.
- Check country availability, current account requirements, and policy status in the platform’s own dashboard before planning around a threshold.
- Keep income categories separate: ad revenue, subscriptions, tips, and other platform tools have different eligibility and payment rules.
- Use analytics after streams to review what was actually served and earned. The official platform materials cited here do not establish a universal earnings-per-view or earnings-per-hour figure.
