The store or retailer—not YouTube—handles orders, shipping, returns, customer service, and creator payments, so check its terms and shipping coverage before you promote anything.
1. Choose what to sell and how to make it
Start with items that suit your audience and channel identity. You can use a commerce or merch platform that produces and fulfills orders, or source products and arrange production and shipping yourself. The right route depends on your budget, desired control, product range, and willingness to manage inventory and customer issues.

You do not automatically need to buy blank T-shirts or printing equipment. Those are possible inputs if you arrange production yourself; a platform that supplies finished products may handle production and fulfillment instead.
Compare the production and selling arrangements
- Print-on-demand or platform-managed fulfillment: Ask which products and customizations are available, what costs and transaction fees apply, which countries it ships to, and who handles delivery problems and returns.
- Self-managed production: Compare the cost and effort of sourcing, printing, holding inventory, packing, shipping, and handling customer service. Confirm how you will keep product listings and stock information accurate.
YouTube’s connected-store documentation does not rank providers or prescribe a particular product or print method. Compare providers’ current terms directly rather than assuming availability, fees, or delivery times.

2. Set up a store on a supported platform
YouTube Shopping lets eligible creators connect an official store to sell their own products. YouTube documents Shopify as one route. For that setup, install the Google & YouTube app, connect a Google account with channel admin access, select your YouTube channel in the app, review the program rules, and complete the setup. See YouTube’s Shopify setup instructions.
Other providers and their availability can vary. Check the current YouTube Shopping store-connection information and the platform’s own terms before building your store around a particular integration.

3. Check whether your channel is eligible
The Shopping tab appears in YouTube Studio only when the channel is eligible. For promoting your own products, YouTube lists requirements including participation in the YouTube Partner Program (YPP), meeting the applicable YPP subscriber threshold or having Official Artist Channel status, limits related to Made for Kids content, and no Hate Speech Community Guideline strikes. Requirements can change, so check your channel’s status and the current YouTube Shopping eligibility rules before proceeding.

4. Connect the store and submit products for review
- In YouTube Studio, open Earn > Shopping. Select Get Started or Connect new store, then follow the connection flow. The exact options depend on channel eligibility and the provider.
- For Shopify, complete the Google & YouTube app flow. Make sure the Google account you connect has the necessary channel access, select the correct channel, and finish setup in the app.
- Submit and check your product listings. Products are reviewed against YouTube and Google Merchant Center policies. For the documented Shopify setup, YouTube says review typically takes a few business days. Review times may vary; do not plan a launch around an assumed approval date.
- Resolve disapprovals through the store administrator. Individual products can be disapproved. YouTube says an appeal can be submitted by the retailer or store admin; check the reason and the applicable policy before appealing.

5. Choose where approved products appear
Depending on eligibility, approved products, content status, viewer location, and device, products may appear in your channel store, video descriptions, product shelves, or product tags in videos, Shorts, and live streams. Availability is not identical for every viewer or piece of content.

YouTube notes that Shopping features may not show on Made for Kids content, content with a copyright claim, content that is ineligible for monetization, or to viewers in an ineligible region. Check each video’s status and the current YouTube Shopping feature rules if products do not appear as expected.

The connected merch platform or retailer—not Google—manages operational responsibilities such as warehousing, inventory, fulfillment, customer service, refunds, and creator payment. The merchant also determines the countries where it sells and ships.

- Verify which countries can order and whether shipping is available to the places your viewers live.
- Check delivery estimates, shipping charges, returns and refund terms, and how product issues are handled.
- Review production and platform costs and understand how creator payments are calculated under the provider’s terms.
- Order or inspect a sample if you need to assess product quality before promoting it; do not assume that a listing image establishes the finished item’s quality.
These details are provider-specific and can change. Confirm them with the platform or retailer before announcing a launch.
7. Promote products without overstating the opportunity
Product tags and shelves can make eligible merchandise available alongside your channel content, but neither a YouTube integration nor a favorable opinion of creator recommendations guarantees sales. A YouTube page titled “Tips for selling your own products” cites a 2021 U.S. survey in which 89% of viewers agreed that YouTube creators give recommendations they can trust. That survey, conducted by Google/Talk Shoppe among 2,000 U.S. adults aged 18–64 who use video and fielded in August 2021, measured reported trust in recommendations—not merch purchase intent, sales, or conversion.
For a practical launch, make the product, price, shipping coverage, and return terms clear wherever you promote it. Link viewers to the relevant product and avoid promising delivery dates or availability that the retailer has not confirmed.
