FFmpeg plays videos in the order listed in its concat playlist; it does not automatically sort filenames. To stream children’s videos in alphabetical order, decide your exact sorting rule, put the video paths in that order in a concat-demuxer text file, and send FFmpeg’s output to the server URL and stream key shown in YouTube Live Control Room.
Choose what “alphabetical” means for your filenames
Before building the playlist, settle how you want to handle uppercase and lowercase letters, punctuation, and numbers. For example, a lexical sort may place “episode 10” before “episode 2,” while a natural numeric sort may put episode 2 first. The concat demuxer follows the order of its file entries; it does not choose or sort that order for you.

Sorting conventions vary by operating system and locale, so inspect the final list rather than assuming a file manager or shell has applied the rule you intended. This matters especially when filenames mix numbers, capitalization, or titles from different series.

Create an ordered concat playlist

Make a plain-text playlist in the same directory as the videos, or use paths that correctly identify where each video is stored.

Optionally put
ffconcat version 1.0on the first line. FFmpeg recognizes this header automatically only when it is exactly that text at the start of the file, without extra spaces or a byte-order mark. -
Add one
filedirective for each video, in the exact playback order you want. For example:ffconcat version 1.0 file 'Bluey - episode 01.mp4' file 'Bluey - episode 02.mp4' file 'Puffin Rock - episode 01.mp4' -
Use valid concat syntax for paths containing spaces or special characters. The example illustrates playlist order only; replace the filenames with your own paths and confirm the quoting or escaping is valid for your platform.

Read through the completed playlist before streaming. Its entries, not the folder’s visible sort order, determine the sequence FFmpeg processes.
Check whether the videos are compatible
The concat demuxer is the simplest choice when the files have matching streams, codecs, and time bases. If they do not, concatenation may fail or produce playback problems. FFmpeg also uses each file’s duration to set timestamps for the next file; inaccurate duration information can cause timestamp gaps or other artifacts.
When the inputs are incompatible and need to be decoded and re-encoded to a consistent output profile, use FFmpeg’s concat filter instead. The filter requires an appropriate encoding setup, but it is the relevant approach when re-encoding is needed. The concat demuxer and concat filter are different workflows, so choose based on the files rather than treating them as interchangeable.

Connect FFmpeg to YouTube Live

In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or select the live stream you intend to use.

Copy the server URL and stream key shown for that stream into your FFmpeg output configuration. YouTube’s encoder workflow requires both values; the Live API describes an RTMPS primary ingestion URL and allows encoders to take the URL and stream name separately or together.

Keep the stream key private. Anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your stream.

Start FFmpeg and check the preview and stream status in YouTube Live Control Room. Complete the live-control steps shown there to take the stream live.
Children’s content, rights, and channel rules
Use videos you own or have permission to stream. Children’s programming is not exempt from copyright rules: music, clips, and other material included in a video may have separate rights. Check YouTube’s current requirements for live streams and audience settings in the channel’s Studio workflow, and set the audience designation accurately. The playlist controls playback order; it does not grant streaming rights or determine YouTube policy compliance.

A file cannot be opened: Verify that its path is correct relative to the playlist or use a valid path, then check the quoting or escaping for spaces and special characters.

Concatenation fails or transitions are broken: Check that inputs meet the demuxer’s matching-stream, codec, and time-base requirements. If they do not, use a concat-filter workflow that decodes and re-encodes to a consistent profile.

Timestamp gaps or artifacts appear between files: Investigate inaccurate duration information; FFmpeg uses file durations to set the next file’s timestamps.

YouTube does not receive the stream: Confirm that you copied the server URL and stream key from the intended stream in Live Control Room and that they are configured correctly in FFmpeg.
