ArchiveBox’s standard headless Chrome screenshot is documented as a viewport capture, not a guaranteed image of the entire page. To save a full-page screenshot, use the ArchiveBox browser extension’s full-page capture and export it as a PNG. Its documented capture is stored locally in the extension unless you separately transfer or export it into the server-side archive.
Why ArchiveBox may capture only the top of a page
The built-in screenshot extractor uses a configured viewport size. ArchiveBox’s configuration reference describes RESOLUTION as the default screenshot/PDF viewport resolution and provides SCREENSHOT_RESOLUTION as a screenshot-specific override. Those settings change the viewport dimensions; they are not documented as a switch for capturing the full document height. See the ArchiveBox configuration reference.

Likewise, increasing the extractor timeout gives it more time to run; it does not make the image taller. The documentation describes TIMEOUT as a maximum runtime, with some plugins able to use their own settings, such as CHROME_TIMEOUT.
Use the ArchiveBox extension for a full-page PNG

Make sure your ArchiveBox server is reachable from the browser where you installed the extension. Configure the extension’s server URL and authentication or API key as required by the version and setup you use.

Open the page you want to preserve. Use the extension icon or the page’s “Save to ArchiveBox” context-menu action.

Open the extension’s Saved URLs or local capture view and locate the screenshot. When local capture saving is enabled, the README documents the PNG at

If you need the screenshot inside a server-side ArchiveBox collection, confirm that you have transferred or exported it there. The extension documentation describes local storage and export; it does not establish that this screenshot artifact is automatically added to the server-side Snapshot directory.

Configure the built-in extractor for a larger viewport
If you want a larger viewport-sized screenshot from the server-side extractor, set the resolution for the Crawl, Snapshot, or Persona scope actually used by your run. ArchiveBox supports setting options with archivebox config --set, the collection’s ArchiveBox.conf, or environment variables. Existing Crawl configuration can take precedence over later environment defaults, so check the effective value rather than assuming a new environment variable took effect.

Use RESOLUTION for the default screenshot/PDF viewport or SCREENSHOT_RESOLUTION for a screenshot-specific override. This can show more of a page at once if you enlarge the viewport, but it still does not guarantee a full-document capture. A higher viewport can also produce a larger image. Raising TIMEOUT may help a slow extractor finish, but it does not change capture height.

The extension README also documents MHTML capture through Chromium’s pageCapture.saveAsMHTML() API as available in Chrome, Edge, and Chromium builds. Firefox and Safari builds skip MHTML because that API is unavailable there. This MHTML distinction should not be taken to mean screenshot support is identical across every browser; check the behavior of the extension build you use.

Limits and troubleshooting

The screenshot stops at the fold: The built-in extractor is documented as viewport-sized. Use the extension’s full-page capture if you need a full-page PNG; changing resolution alone does not guarantee it.

The resolution change had no effect: Check whether the Crawl, Snapshot, or Persona configuration overrides the default. Existing Crawl settings may take precedence over later environment defaults.

The extractor times out: Review the effective
TIMEOUTand any plugin-specific timeout such asCHROME_TIMEOUT. A longer timeout can help with runtime, but not with page height. -
You cannot find the extension screenshot in the collection: Check the extension’s local capture view and export the PNG. Do not assume a locally saved artifact has been copied into the server-side Snapshot.

A long or dynamic page is incomplete: The available ArchiveBox documentation does not guarantee behavior for lazy-loaded images, infinite scrolling, or extremely tall documents in native headless capture. The extension documents full-page capture, but the cited instructions do not settle those edge cases either. Verify the exported image for the page you need to preserve.
