To make Truffle Oil in Stardew Valley, reach Farming level 8, craft an Oil Maker with 50 Slime, 20 Hardwood, and one Gold Bar, then place one Truffle inside. The machine takes six in-game hours to produce one Truffle Oil. Whether processing is profitable depends on the Truffle’s quality and whether you have the Artisan profession: an iridium-quality Truffle can be worth more sold directly than converted without Artisan.
What you need before making Truffle Oil
Truffle Oil is an Artisan Good made by processing a Truffle in an Oil Maker. The Oil Maker recipe becomes available at Farming level 8. Reaching that level is therefore the first requirement; owning a Truffle alone does not let you produce the oil.

Step-by-step: make one Truffle Oil
- Reach Farming level 8. This unlocks the Oil Maker crafting recipe.
- Craft an Oil Maker. Use 50 Slime, 20 Hardwood, and one Gold Bar.
- Place one Truffle in the Oil Maker. The Truffle is the input item for this recipe.
- Wait six in-game hours. After the processing period, the machine produces one Truffle Oil.
- Collect the finished oil. The output is an Artisan Good described in-game as a gourmet cooking ingredient.
The process is deliberately simple: the Oil Maker is the equipment that transforms the Truffle, and the machine’s six-hour turnaround is the main scheduling constraint. If you are planning a large batch, load the machines early enough that the finished oil is available when you need it.
How much Truffle Oil sells for
The listed base selling price for Truffle Oil is 1,065g. With the Artisan profession, the listed selling price is 1,491g. These are in-game sale values reported by the Stardew Valley Wiki, consulted in 2026; they are not real-world prices.
| Item or condition | Sale value | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Truffle Oil | 1,065g | Base listed value |
| Truffle Oil with Artisan | 1,491g | Value when the player has the Artisan profession |
The finished oil does not have a listed quality level. That matters because the input Truffle can have a quality level, while the processed product is simply Truffle Oil for sale and use. Processing therefore trades the input’s individual quality for a fixed output value determined by the player’s profession.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Should you process every Truffle?
No. Turning a Truffle into oil is not automatically the best choice. Compare the Truffle’s direct sale value with the value of the resulting oil, and account for your profession and your reason for making it.
When selling the Truffle directly can be better
Without Artisan, an iridium-quality Truffle is worth more sold outright than the 1,065g base value of Truffle Oil. In that situation, processing a high-quality Truffle reduces its sale value. The exact comparison depends on the input quality, so do not treat the Oil Maker as a universal upgrade.

When processing is more attractive
Processing is more compelling when the Truffle’s direct value is below the oil’s applicable sale price, or when you have Artisan and can receive the 1,491g profession-adjusted value. It is also the correct choice when you need the item itself for a bundle, quest, Rain Totem, or tailoring rather than merely wanting the highest immediate sale value.
The four checks to make before loading the machine
- Truffle quality: higher-quality Truffles can be better sold directly, especially without Artisan.
- Your profession: Artisan changes the listed oil value from 1,065g to 1,491g.
- Your objective: a required ingredient or quest item can be worth more to your farm than its sale price.
- Machine timing: each batch occupies the Oil Maker for six in-game hours.
This approach avoids a common mistake: processing first and checking the economics afterward. Decide item by item, particularly when you have iridium-quality Truffles or a limited number of machines.

A practical decision framework
If you are selling for maximum return
- Identify the Truffle’s quality.
- Check whether you have Artisan.
- Compare the Truffle’s direct sale value with the relevant oil value: 1,065g without Artisan or 1,491g with Artisan.
- Process only when the oil value is higher, while allowing for the six-hour machine wait.
The available reference specifically establishes that an iridium-quality Truffle beats unmodified Truffle Oil when Artisan is absent. It does not provide a complete price table for every Truffle quality, so avoid assuming that every lower-quality Truffle has the same outcome.
If you are completing a collection or objective
Use the Oil Maker even when selling would produce more gold if the oil is needed for a specific requirement. The item can count toward the Pantry’s Artisan Bundle, can satisfy Mayor Lewis’s request by mail on Summer 21 of Year 2, and is required for the Rain Totem and certain tailoring uses. In these cases, utility is the deciding factor rather than the highest possible sale price.
If machine time is your limiting resource
Six in-game hours per batch means a small number of Oil Makers can become a bottleneck. Reserve available machines for Truffles that meet your economic or quest objective, and avoid filling them with high-quality inputs when direct sale is better. The six-hour duration is a fixed processing time for each Truffle Oil.
Every known use for Truffle Oil
Pantry’s Artisan Bundle
Truffle Oil is one of the options for the Pantry’s Artisan Bundle. If the bundle is your goal, making one bottle can be more important than comparing its sale value with the input Truffle.

Truffle Oil is an ingredient in the Rain Totem recipe, together with one Hardwood and five Pine Tar. The Rain Totem recipe is obtained at Foraging level 9. If you are preparing a Rain Totem, retain the oil and the other listed ingredients instead of selling the bottle.
Tailoring and dyeing
In tailoring, Truffle Oil can be used to make the dyeable Dark Bandana Shirt. It can also serve as a yellow dye. These are item-use paths rather than sale strategies, so keep a bottle if you want either clothing or dye functionality.
Mayor Lewis’s mail request
Mayor Lewis can request Truffle Oil by mail on Summer 21 of Year 2. Completing that request rewards 750g and one friendship heart. If the request appears, the reward and friendship gain give the bottle a purpose beyond its normal shop value.
Alternative ways to obtain Truffle Oil
Crafting with an Oil Maker is the core method, but the item also has alternate acquisition routes in version 1.6 content:

These routes are alternatives to processing your own Truffles. They do not remove the value comparison for an Oil Maker: if you already have Truffles and machine capacity, processing may be preferable; if you need a bottle and have access to one of these sources, obtaining it without consuming a high-quality Truffle may be useful.

The Oil Maker recipe is unavailable
Confirm that your Farming level is at least 8. The recipe is tied to that level, so having the materials or a Truffle is not enough by itself.
You cannot craft the machine
Check all three requirements: 50 Slime, 20 Hardwood, and one Gold Bar. Missing even one material prevents the Oil Maker from being crafted.
The machine is not producing oil immediately
Truffle Oil requires six in-game hours of processing. Place one Truffle in the machine and allow the full processing period to pass before expecting the finished item.
You are unsure whether to collect or sell the output
First identify the purpose of the bottle. Bundle, quest, Rain Totem, and tailoring needs all justify keeping it. If the purpose is only income, use the applicable sale value and compare it with what the original Truffle would have earned directly.
Best Value
Planning a Truffle Oil routine
A reliable routine separates production decisions from collection timing. Keep a note of which Truffles are high quality, which bottles are reserved for objectives, and which machines are available for another six-hour cycle. This prevents accidentally processing an iridium-quality Truffle that would have been more valuable unprocessed, while also ensuring that a required bottle is ready when a bundle, recipe, or request calls for it.
For a profit-focused farm
Use the profession-adjusted oil value as your benchmark. With Artisan, the listed output is 1,491g; without it, the benchmark is 1,065g. Process inputs that fall below the relevant benchmark and sell exceptional inputs directly when the quality premium exceeds the oil value.
For a completion-focused farm
Make at least the bottles needed for the Pantry’s Artisan Bundle, the Rain Totem recipe, tailoring, or Mayor Lewis’s request. In this approach, the machine’s six-hour timing is a scheduling concern, not a reason to skip production.
For a mixed strategy
Sort Truffles by quality and purpose. Route ordinary inputs toward the Oil Maker when the applicable oil price is favorable, keep high-quality inputs for direct sale when appropriate, and reserve finished oil for any known requirement before selling surplus.
Version and scope notes
The item and equipment references used for these mechanics include version histories through 1.6, including the Truffle Crab drop and Desert Festival purchase route. The latest build and exact platform parity were not independently verified, so platform-specific differences should not be assumed. The core crafting sequence described here is the Oil Maker recipe and six-hour processing cycle documented for the game’s referenced version history.
