Get written permission to rebroadcast the tournament footage before building a 24/7 stream. Once the rights are clear, you can feed a replay playlist to YouTube Live either from a computer running an encoder or through a hosted playout service. Neither setup grants rebroadcast rights, prevents copyright enforcement, nor guarantees monetization.
1. Clear the rights before you build the stream
A replay being publicly available online—or already having been broadcast—does not make it free to rebroadcast. YouTube’s live-stream terms place responsibility for rights and legal compliance on the content provider. Ask the event organizer and relevant rights holders for written permission that matches the way you intend to use the footage.

Make the permission specific to your plan
Confirm whether the license covers continuous live transmission on YouTube, saved archives, the countries where viewers can watch, how long you may use the material, and whether you may monetize it. Check that it covers the complete broadcast, not just the game: music, commentary, overlays, team or player material, and the event’s broadcast production may have separate rights. Ask whether your YouTube channel needs to be added to a Content ID allowlist. The contract and rights holders determine what is permitted; this checklist is not a substitute for a case-specific legal assessment.

Check the rules for the game and event
Game publishers and tournament operators can impose additional streaming conditions. For Dota 2, Valve’s DotaTV License says event operators may set requirements for community streams and that operator-provided camera work and broadcast audio require authorization. Valve states: “Camera work and broadcast audio provided by the Operator cannot be used by a Community Stream unless authorized by the Operator, even if that content is available through DotaTV.” Read the current DotaTV License and the event operator’s rules if you plan to use Dota footage. Do not apply that Dota-specific policy to other games; check the relevant publisher and organizer requirements.

Account for live copyright checks
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. A match may result in a placeholder, warning, interruption, or termination. YouTube also notes that even licensed material may be interrupted if the rights holder has not allowlisted your channel in Content ID. Permission from an organizer does not necessarily handle that separate platform step.
2. Choose who will operate replay playout
Once permission is in place, choose between operating the encoder yourself and using a hosted playout service. The main practical difference is who runs and monitors the equipment and connection; the channel owner remains responsible for the rights and YouTube compliance in either case.
| Option | Who operates playout | Local computer and connection | What to plan for |
|---|---|---|---|
| StreamNeo hosted playout | StreamNeo loops uploaded videos or a playlist from the cloud to YouTube. | Your computer does not have to stay on to keep the stream running. | Confirm your rights cover the intended YouTube use. StreamNeo does not grant rights or prevent YouTube copyright action; plan for archive limits and channel monitoring. |
| Self-hosted encoder | You operate the computer, encoder, replay playlist, and stream connection. | The host computer, its power, and its internet connection must remain available for the feed to continue. | Choose and configure an encoder and playlist workflow, monitor stream health, and arrange local recordings and recovery. |
YouTube documents the encoder workflow for gameplay and higher-production streams but does not prescribe a particular encoder brand, playlist application, computer specification, or 24/7 architecture. A dedicated computer such as a mini PC is optional, not a YouTube requirement. For a hosted service, check that its workflow suits your written rights grant and that you understand its monitoring, recovery, recording, and total-cost arrangements; a cloud host is not a rights clearance shortcut.

3. Set up the self-hosted encoder workflow
The exact controls differ by encoder, and the YouTube guidance cited here does not set one universal replay-playlist recipe or encoder configuration. Use an encoder that can send your prepared feed to YouTube, then follow its current instructions alongside YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room.
- Prepare a rights-cleared feed. Organize only footage and other elements covered by your permission into the replay playlist or playout feed you intend to broadcast. Keep a copy of the license and any Content ID allowlisting confirmation available to the people operating the channel.
- Check channel eligibility. YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days. Resolve an eligibility restriction before scheduling a broadcast.
- Create or schedule the stream. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or schedule the live stream. Use the encoder workflow for a replay feed rather than assuming a browser webcam workflow will handle playlist playout.
- Copy the destination details into the encoder. Copy YouTube’s server/stream URL and stream key into the encoder’s streaming settings. Treat the key as a secret: anyone who has it may be able to send a feed to that stream destination. Do not publish or share it casually.
- Check the preview before going live. Start the encoder output and inspect the Live Control Room preview. Confirm that the intended video and audio are present and that YouTube reports a healthy incoming stream before you begin the public broadcast.
- Start the broadcast and keep watch. Start the stream in the encoder and follow the Live Control Room’s stream-health indicators. Arrange regular checks and a person or procedure that can respond if the feed stops; a playlist alone does not monitor the channel for you.
Do not guess at bitrate or video settings
Choose resolution, frame rate, bitrate, and keyframe settings that your encoder and YouTube’s current guidance support for the actual feed. The material available for this guide does not establish a tested configuration for Indian esports replays, so a single numerical preset would be an unsupported promise. The firm network rule is to keep total outgoing bitrate within available upload bandwidth. YouTube recommends 20% headroom above the stream bitrate. Test the connection and preview before relying on the setup unattended.
4. Plan for interruptions, bandwidth, and recordings
Monitor the connection and feed
Measure whether the upload connection can carry the total outgoing bitrate with YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom. Watch stream health, check that audio and video are still present, and verify that local recording files are actually growing. For an unattended stream, assign health checks and define who will respond to a stopped encoder, failed connection, or missing feed.

Keep a local archive and retention plan
Do not assume a continuous broadcast will become one complete YouTube archive. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. It recommends a local archive backup. Set up and check local recording if you need a copy, and decide how long to retain it. Planned restarts or separate sessions are operational choices, not a guarantee of archive behavior; make sure the rights grant covers the sessions and archives you intend to create.
Recover deliberately
If the feed stops, first check the encoder output and connection, then check the Live Control Room’s stream status. Use your assigned recovery procedure to restore the feed, and verify the preview again before relying on it. Do not treat automatic platform or service recovery as proof that YouTube will preserve an archive or that a rights holder will permit a restarted session.

A license to rebroadcast does not guarantee that YouTube will monetize the stream. Eligible channels may enable live ads and may use Super Chat, Super Stickers, or memberships, but ad delivery is not guaranteed. YouTube separately applies reused-content and inauthentic-content monetization policies; repetitive or mass-produced material can create a monetization risk. A minimally changed loop of tournament replays should not be presented as automatically monetizable, even if the rights are cleared. Review YouTube’s current policies and assess the channel’s eligibility and original value when applying.
