You can keep a YouTube stream playing a playlist with OBS, but Google Drive is not a documented direct playlist source: make the video files accessible on the streaming computer first. Add them to OBS’s VLC Video source, enable Loop Playlist, then connect OBS to YouTube Live with the current stream URL and key. For a stream that does not depend on a computer and home internet connection staying on, StreamNeo runs uploaded videos from the cloud.
What you need before you start
- A YouTube channel that is verified and has had no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, as YouTube’s current eligibility guidance requires. YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility requirements.
- A computer that can stay on, a stable internet connection with enough upload capacity for the stream, and the video files available to that computer.
- OBS Studio and VLC installed. OBS’s VLC Video source depends on VLC libraries; install VLC if that source does not appear in OBS.
- Rights to stream every video and audio track. Being able to access a file in Drive does not establish that you have permission to broadcast it.
OBS’s documented media sources work with local media files and playlists; its documentation does not describe a native Google Drive playlist integration. If you use Drive to synchronize files, make sure the files are downloaded and available at stable paths before going live. Do not assume OBS will automatically notice edits to a Drive playlist or fetch files on demand. OBS Project: Media Sources.

Prepare the playlist files from Google Drive
- In Drive, arrange the videos you want to broadcast and make each file available on the computer that will run OBS. Choose a local folder with enough free space for the files.
- Check that the files open and play on that computer. Keep their names and locations stable after adding them to OBS; moving or renaming a file can break the source path.
- If you update the playlist in Drive, separately download or synchronize the changed files and update the OBS playlist as needed. Test the revised playlist before the broadcast.
This is a local-file workflow, not a claim that OBS can stream directly from Drive. Confirm the exact files and paths in advance rather than relying on cloud synchronization to finish during a live broadcast.

For several videos in sequence
- Open OBS and add a source to the scene. Choose VLC Video Source (called VLC Video source in OBS documentation). If it is missing, install VLC and reopen OBS.
- Open the source’s properties and add the local video files in the order you want them played. Confirm the list contains the right files and sequence.
- Enable Loop Playlist in the source properties so playback returns to the beginning after the final item.
- Use OBS’s preview to confirm the video plays and the audio is present. If playback stutters, check that files are locally available and that the computer can decode them while encoding the stream.
For one video repeated
Add an OBS Media Source, select the local video file, and enable its Loop option. The ordinary Media Source is suitable for a single file; for multiple sequential files, use the VLC Video source and its playlist loop option. OBS Project: Media Sources.

OBS documents a default 400 ms network-caching setting for its VLC Video source. That is a software default, not a guarantee of smooth playback or stream reliability; change source settings only in response to a specific playback problem and test the result.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule an encoder stream. YouTube’s labels and layout can change, so follow the current Live Control Room flow.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for that stream. In OBS, open Settings > Stream, select the YouTube service if offered, and enter the current server URL and stream key in their corresponding fields. Treat the key like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your stream.
- Use RTMPS where available. YouTube recommends RTMPS and publishes encoder settings; match the resolution, frame rate and bitrate to your actual upload capacity and encoder capabilities rather than choosing settings your connection cannot sustain. Consult YouTube’s current recommended encoder settings.
- Start streaming from OBS and wait for the incoming feed to appear in YouTube’s Live Control Room preview. Check picture and sound there before starting or scheduling the public event. - Once live, check the watch page from another device or browser and continue monitoring OBS, the Live Control Room and the computer’s network connection.
Copyright, long broadcasts and replay
Check rights before streaming
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. A match can lead to a placeholder, interruption or termination. A licence alone may not prevent a disruption if the rights owner has not added your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Review YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams, and obtain the permissions and allowlisting needed for your particular material before broadcasting. Do not treat music or video stored in your Drive as automatically safe to stream.

Do not assume a long stream will produce one complete archive
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not promise or rely on a single complete replay for a longer continuous broadcast; plan separately for any recording or replay you need. YouTube’s encoder-stream guidance.

With this method, OBS, the computer, access to the local files and the network all have to remain operational. A playlist loop does not itself restart a failed encoder or restore a dropped connection, and the cited setup guidance does not guarantee uninterrupted operation for a particular computer, network or Drive arrangement. Keep an eye on the stream, and test the complete setup—including recovery after a brief connection interruption—before relying on it for a long broadcast.

Troubleshooting
