Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsTo put a repeating playlist into a live broadcast, add the local media files to OBS’s VLC Video Source and turn on Loop Playlist. You need VLC installed; for one video rather than a playlist, OBS’s Media Source has its own Loop option. YouTube’s playlist Loop control is different: it repeats playback for viewers in YouTube’s player, not in your OBS broadcast.
Choose where the playlist should repeat
There are two separate workflows, depending on what you mean by “on a live stream.” If you are producing a broadcast in OBS, the playlist must play as a source in your OBS scene. If you are watching a playlist on YouTube, use YouTube’s player controls instead.
| What you want | Where playback happens | Use |
|---|---|---|
| Send several media files into an OBS broadcast and repeat them | OBS scene | VLC Video Source with Loop Playlist enabled |
| Repeat one local video in an OBS broadcast | OBS scene | Media Source with Loop enabled |
| Repeat a playlist while watching YouTube | YouTube player | YouTube’s Loop control |
The OBS Project’s Media Sources documentation describes local media playback and these source options. It does not establish that a YouTube playlist URL can be added directly to OBS’s VLC playlist, so use media files you have locally rather than assuming that a playlist link will work.
Set up a repeating playlist in OBS
Before you start
- Install VLC. OBS’s VLC Video Source depends on it; if the source is missing, check that VLC is installed.
- Match the VLC architecture to OBS: OBS’s documentation says 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC.
- Prepare the media files you intend to play and add them as items in the VLC source playlist.
Add the source and enable looping
- In OBS, select the scene that will contain the playlist.
- In the Sources box, select +, then choose VLC Video Source. Give the source a name if prompted.
- In the source properties, add the local media files to the playlist in the order you want them to play.
- Enable Loop Playlist. The OBS Project describes this option as restarting the source when it has run out of media files.
- Choose whether to enable Shuffle Playlist. Leave it off for the listed order; enable it if you want randomized playback.
- Set Visibility Behaviour to determine what happens when the source is hidden: playback can continue, pause, or stop. Choose the behavior that fits your scene transitions.
- Select OK, check the scene preview, and start your broadcast when the source is playing as intended.
These settings are documented by the OBS Project on its Media Sources page, published January 11, 2022. Interface labels may change, so if a control is not where expected, consult the current OBS interface and documentation.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Loop one local video instead
For a single file, use OBS’s Media Source, not a VLC Video Source playlist. Add the source to the scene, select the local file in its properties, and enable Loop. OBS defines Loop as playing the file again after playback completes. This is the simpler choice when you do not need multiple items or playlist shuffle.
Repeat a playlist while watching YouTube
If you only want the playlist to repeat for yourself as a viewer, open a video in the playlist, expand the playlist box, and select Loop. YouTube Help also documents using the Repeat control for playlists on a TV or game console. These controls affect YouTube playback; they do not add the playlist to an OBS scene or create a live broadcast. See YouTube Help’s instructions for looping videos or playlists (publication date not shown).

The playlist stops after the last item
Check that Loop Playlist is enabled on the VLC Video Source. For one video in a Media Source, enable Loop instead.
The video pauses or stops when another scene appears
Check the source’s Visibility Behaviour. Set it to continue if playback should carry on while the source is hidden; choose pause or stop if that is intentional.

YouTube’s Loop control repeats playback in YouTube’s player. For an OBS broadcast, add local media through a VLC Video Source (or one local file through Media Source); the cited OBS documentation does not verify direct YouTube playlist URL ingestion.
