Use OBS Studio with a VLC Video source for the playlist, plus a separate holding-screen scene. Switch to that scene between videos, then back to the playlist. This is a documented manual workflow; the OBS materials cited here do not establish an automatic holding-screen trigger at every playlist boundary.
Why a YouTube playlist is not enough
A YouTube watch playlist is a queue of uploaded videos for viewers. It does not send those videos as an encoder livestream. To broadcast a sequence of local video files as one live feed, use encoder software such as OBS Studio and send its output to YouTube through the Live Control Room. YouTube explains the encoder connection through its live streaming encoder setup; its playlist feature is separate: create and manage playlists.

Set up the playlist and holding screen in OBS
1. Install OBS Studio and VLC
OBS’s VLC Video source depends on VLC being installed. For 64-bit OBS, the OBS media-source documentation specifies 64-bit VLC. See the OBS Media Sources guide for the source requirements and controls. The guide is dated January 11, 2022, so check the current software versions and compatibility if the source is missing.
2. Build the playlist scene

In OBS, create a scene for the program playlist.

Add a VLC Video source to that scene and add the local video files in the order you want them to play.

Leave Shuffle Playlist off for a fixed sequence. Enable Loop Playlist only if the sequence should restart after its last file. OBS also documents a Visibility Behaviour control; choose the behavior that fits your scene setup.
3. Build the holding-screen scene
Create a second scene and add a still image, text, or other sources that make up the holding screen. OBS scenes can contain media and other sources; the OBS Studio Overview Guide describes scenes as the place to assemble the stream layout.
4. Choose a transition and switch manually
Choose a scene transition such as a cut or fade in OBS. When a playlist video ends, switch to the holding-screen scene; when you are ready for the next video, switch back to the playlist scene. OBS documents scene switching and transitions, but the cited documentation does not describe an automatic switch to a holding screen at each VLC playlist-item boundary. Treat this workflow as manual unless you verify a separate automation method and its compatibility with your current OBS setup.

Connect OBS to YouTube and go live

In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or select the stream.

Copy the server URL and stream key provided for the stream into OBS’s stream settings. YouTube describes the key as information entered in the encoder so YouTube can accept its feed. Keep it private; anyone with access to it may be able to send a feed to your stream.

Start streaming from OBS. Check the Live Control Room preview, verify picture and audio, and follow its prompt to go live. YouTube recommends testing and previewing the encoder feed before the event; see its live streaming tips.

During the broadcast, switch to the holding-screen scene between playlist videos, then return to the playlist scene.

Manual switching or automation?

Common problems and fixes

VLC Video is unavailable: install VLC and make sure its architecture matches OBS; the OBS guide calls for 64-bit VLC with 64-bit OBS.

Videos play in an unexpected order: check that Shuffle Playlist is off and that the files are listed in the intended order.

The playlist stops after the final video: enable Loop Playlist if you want it to restart. Leave looping off if the sequence should end.

The holding screen does not appear by itself: automatic per-item switching is not established by the cited OBS documentation. Switch scenes manually or verify a separate automation solution before broadcast.

YouTube receives no encoder feed: check that OBS has the correct server URL and stream key for the selected Live Control Room stream, then check the preview before going live. If the key was exposed, replace it in YouTube and update OBS.
