Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →In OBS Studio, open Settings → Advanced and enable Automatically Reconnect. Set a retry count and starting retry delay that suit your stream. This makes OBS retry its output connection after a disruption; it cannot restore a broken internet connection or guarantee that YouTube will keep the same broadcast active.
Enable automatic reconnect in OBS
- Open OBS Studio and select Settings.
- Select Advanced.
- Find the Automatically Reconnect controls and enable them.
- Choose a retry count and starting retry delay. OBS documents that the wait interval doubles with each retry; a retry count of zero disables reconnecting. The current UI defaults are not established here, and labels or layout can vary by OBS version. See the OBS Studio overview and OBS output API reference.
The retry count controls how many reconnection attempts OBS makes; the starting delay determines the initial wait before a retry. Because later waits grow, the setting is not a promise of an immediate or successful recovery.
What reconnecting does—and does not—recover
Automatic reconnect tells OBS to retry sending its output. It does not fix an unavailable network or ingest server, and it does not guarantee continuity if the broadcast has ended or YouTube has a problem. If OBS appears to be streaming while viewers see the broadcast offline, check both the OBS connection and the broadcast state in YouTube Live Control Room rather than assuming the checkbox alone will resolve it.
YouTube’s encoder workflow uses a stream URL and stream key from Live Control Room. The key connects your encoder to the stream; it is not a substitute for a working network or an active broadcast. YouTube’s instructions cover creating a stream and connecting an encoder: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Check YouTube’s broadcast settings separately
YouTube’s auto-start and auto-stop options are stream settings in Live Control Room, separate from OBS’s reconnect controls. YouTube says those selections are copied when you reuse stream settings, so verify them when setting up a new or reused stream. They do not change OBS’s retry behavior. See Manage live stream settings.
Troubleshoot repeated disconnections
OBS identifies dropped frames and intermittent disconnections as signs of a network problem between your computer and the remote ingest server. Reconnect retries may help after a brief interruption, but recurring drops call for diagnosing that connection. OBS’s stream connection troubleshooting guide suggests trying another server and lowering the video bitrate among its troubleshooting steps.

- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- OBS keeps retrying: Check whether the internet connection is available and whether the selected ingest server can be reached. If drops persist, try another server or lower the video bitrate.
- OBS reconnects but YouTube shows the stream offline: Check the stream’s state in Live Control Room. OBS output recovery and YouTube broadcast state are separate; a retry cannot guarantee that an ended broadcast will resume.
- Retries stop without restoring the output: Review the retry count and delay in OBS Advanced settings. A count of zero disables retries, and the documented retry wait doubles on successive attempts.
- The encoder cannot connect: Check the stream URL and key used by OBS against the stream in Live Control Room, and confirm the broadcast is set up for an encoder connection.
Test the recovery path before an important stream
Test with the actual OBS and YouTube setup before relying on it for an event. YouTube recommends encoder testing and describes testing a backup encoder by stopping the primary encoder or disconnecting its Ethernet cable. That is preparation guidance, not a guarantee that OBS reconnect will preserve every broadcast. See YouTube live-streaming tips for computers.
