Choose the right YouTube Shopping route
YouTube has two distinct shopping paths. Store owners connect their own eligible shop and get products approved for tagging. Creators who feature other brands need access to YouTube Shopping and must choose products from participating retailers. Availability depends on the account and market, so check the Shopping tab and retailer options in your own Studio before planning the event.

YouTube’s own-product guidance names Shopify, Spring and selected retailers among possible connection options. That does not mean every store or channel qualifies; verify the available connection choices in Studio.
Set up the seasonal offer accurately
YouTube documents several ways an eligible tagged product’s offer may appear: Merchant Promotions, sale-price annotations and price-drop badges. Depending on the feature and setup, a Merchant Promotion may use an automatic discount or a code, including a percentage or fixed amount; some supported offers may not show a quantified discount. Availability varies by country and configuration. Shopify and Google Merchant Center support promotion creation under different access and country conditions.

- Confirm the exact discount, code, start and end dates, exclusions, inventory, shipping destinations and landing-page terms with the store.
- Check that any displayed sale price and promotion match the terms viewers will see when they follow the product link.
- A YouTube price-drop comparison uses the lowest price listed in the previous 30 days. Don’t describe a price as a drop unless the displayed comparison supports that claim.
YouTube’s offer tools display promotions; they do not establish your store’s terms or guarantee that every viewer will see the same offer.
Schedule the livestream and tag products
- Schedule the event: Create or schedule the livestream in YouTube Studio. Prepare its title, description and rundown around the actual promotion and event dates.
- Open the Live Control Room: Add the relevant seasonal products, arrange their order to match the stream’s rundown, and save. You can pin a product during the stream when you are discussing it.
- Finish tags in advance: YouTube recommends completing product tags at least 30 minutes before the stream for the best viewer experience. Tags added while live may not appear to some current viewers.
- Check approval timing: Product review may take a few business days, so don’t leave product eligibility until the day of the event.
For a scheduled product drop
If your event is tied to a dated product release, coordinate the date and time across Shopify or Google channel settings, the Merchant Center feed, the Live Control Room and the landing page. Include the time in UTC so the release is consistent across settings. In YouTube’s described product-drop workflow, review typically takes a few business days and YouTube recommends submitting at least one week ahead. If the drop time changes, retag the product; YouTube says a change can take around an hour to take effect. Recheck the current Studio workflow before publishing because interfaces and requirements can change.

Plan a useful live shopping event
YouTube’s guidance is to plan the purpose, structure, pace, product count and order, and a script. It suggests a 30–60 minute duration for shopping streams; treat that as platform guidance, not proof that a particular length increases sales.

- Open by saying what the event covers and how viewers can find the tagged products.
- Show the featured items and explain how they are used, rather than relying only on sale urgency.
- State offer dates, codes, exclusions and shipping limits plainly, and answer viewers’ questions.
- Move through products in the same order as the product shelf so the pinned item is relevant to the discussion.
YouTube reports 30 billion hours of shopping-related video watch time globally in 2023. It also reports that watch time for videos that help people shop on YouTube increased by over 25% in 2023, across VOD, Shorts and live; the help page does not give a denominator or methodology for that figure, and it is not a livestream-specific result. Neither figure predicts the audience or sales of an individual seasonal event.

Check disclosure, rights and viewer availability
Branded content
If a brand provides value such as payment, a free product or sponsorship in exchange for content, YouTube classifies it as branded content. YouTube says, “If your video contains branded content, you must let us know using the paid promotion declaration in Studio.” Make that declaration in Studio and provide a clear, prominent disclosure for viewers.
Music and other rights
YouTube says creators must own or control the rights to livestream content or clear all rights, including music. YouTube’s policy puts it this way: “Creators must own and control all rights to content within the live stream or clear all rights.” Do not assume a song is cleared just because it is available elsewhere or used in a short clip.

Product visibility
Tagged products are not guaranteed to appear to every viewer. Visibility depends on supported markets, retailer and product availability, shipping destination, device and YouTube surface; some video or content states suppress product tags. Check the viewer-facing stream and product links where practical, but don’t promise universal access.
Troubleshoot before the event
- A product cannot be tagged: Check channel Shopping eligibility, the connected store or participating retailer, product approval and the product’s availability. Allow for review time.
- A promotion or sale annotation is missing: Verify the feature is supported for the relevant country and setup, and confirm price, date, code and feed details with the merchant.
- Viewers do not see a tag: Some current viewers may not receive tag changes made during a live stream. Finish tagging ahead of time and check market, shipping, device and content-state limitations.
- A timed product drop is out of sync: Compare UTC date and time across the shop settings, feed, Live Control Room and landing page. After changing a drop time, retag and allow around an hour for the change to take effect, according to YouTube.
- Music or other content raises a rights concern: Replace it with material you control or have cleared for livestream use.
